18.01.2022 Here's the latest info about returning to Sport and Pony Club Activities

17.01.2022 There are athletes in all sports that have more natural talent than most of the others, and if those gifted people also have the drive to excel, they often DO e...xcel. Then, it is not uncommon for some of them, in later years, to become teachers. Because they achieved success and fame, it is also not uncommon to have students flock to them--- However, and not in all cases, but in some, the highly gifted athletes who could "just do it," may not always know exactly HOW they did it. They did not have to break various skill sets down into more bite sized component pieces the same way some who were less talented had to, Those less naturally gifted athletes, through having had to learn the basic pieces, are often more able to explain the building blocks process better than those to whom it came naturally. The point here is that the competitive success of an athlete may or may not be correlated to that person's ability to teach a sport or discipline. The ability to teach and the ability to compete are not the same.

17.01.2022 Very good reasoning here!

12.01.2022 The swinging lower leg Every week I see at least a few posts on different forums with people asking how to improve their swinging lower leg over a jump.... And every week I cringe at least a few times about some of the answers - core stability, do planks, do sit ups, tie your legs to your girth with baler twine........ So I’d like to give you my opinion on the swinging lower leg and how to improve it 1 Make sure your stirrups are short enough!! You want your knee flexion angle (the angle behind your knee) to be 110-120 degrees when you’re in mid flight over a jump. And you want the knee flexion angle when you’re sitting in your saddle to be 90-100 degrees. Obviously your femur/tibia length and ratio, your saddle shape, your stirrup bar placement and your horse’s shape and action will influence this angle but these measurements are a good place to start and this will help your lower leg stability. 2 Work on hip dissociation - how your hips move in relation to the rest of your body. You want the movement of your body over the fence to be initiated by your hips, not your shoulders or back. Your hips need to move back and you need enough control in the muscles that move the hips in order to achieve this. The main muscle for hip flexion is psoas and for hip extension is the gluteals. Working on this will help your position over the jump and this will achieve lower leg stability. When you move too much with your shoulders, back or upper body that unbalances you forward and makes the lower leg flick back. Work first on achieving the movement pattern of hip dissociation and then improve your muscle strength and endurance in that movement pattern. Tomorrow I’ll post a video on hip dissociation movement patterns and how to improve that. 10.01.2022 What a lovely day for a tiny club Rally day! We started off learning some Working Equitation Garrocha Skills, then trot poles, bending and barrels- then put that all together into a medley skills course. Following a short morning tea, we enjoyed a relaxing trail ride over to the shady XC course. Centre Rider Darcy, rode her first trail ride successfully and Katie celebrated her birthday in style.
