25.01.2022 For those with a smoke taste in the water no it should not be there, you should have no taste or odour in drinking water according to the NH&MRC guidelines. Activated carbon in a filter is generally to small to stop the taste, Water Care prefers Hydrogen peroxide over chlorine to break down the molecules if you want to save the water..
24.01.2022 Water Additives A shortened guide of Water Additives in Controlling Bushfires - Information Guide "Water Additives" is the term given to different supplements that can be combined with water when fighting fires. This additive and water solutions is then either applied to a bushfire to slow the spread and intensity of the fire or applied to vegetation or property to try and prevent it from catching fire. 9. What do I do if I get one of the products on me or my pets?... If you or your pets inadvertently come into contact with a firefighting water additive, wash the skin with mild soap and cold water as soon as practicable, remove any contaminated clothing and, using rubber gloves, hand wash in cold water. If you believe you have been exposed to a water additive and you begin to feel unwell, contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26. 10. How do I clean it up? After the threat of fire has passed, and while wearing gloves, clean water additive residue off surfaces simply by using a mild soap and rinse with water. A scrubbing brush or stiff bristled broom can also be used. Ensure run-off does not enter waterways, including storm-water system. 11. What if my water supply gets contaminated? If you have a domestic water tank supply, you can take precautions to protect your water supply. If there is a fire in your area, disconnect your water tank from the roof catchment (i.e. disconnect your down pipe from entering the tank). This will also reduce the likelihood of smoke and ash entering your water supply. Make sure you do not disconnect the supply side of your tank, especially if you are relying on it for firefighting pumps or sprinklers. The normal concentrations of water additive used should not present a risk to your health. However, it may affect the taste and potability of the water. Foam products also contain detergents so the water in the tank may froth up. As a precaution, if you believe firefighting water additives have entered your water supply, the tank and supply pipes should be drained and cleaned along with the collection surfaces. The first flush of water should be discarded. It can then be allowed to refill using rainwater or filled with water using a licensed water-carrier. 12. Where do I get more information? 24.01.2022 This red bellied black snake still wanted the skink that was in the hole in the drinking water tank wall. I had to remove it or it would have eventually drowned. Most of the snakes we find are dead and generally they are very glad to get out of the water. Most animals we find are like the lizard on the bottom of the same tank, if you try to pick them up they fall to bits.
23.01.2022 Iron reduction in Grose Vale using filter housings and best available technology, this one is irrigation water and so I can use chlorine effluent tablets.
23.01.2022 One of the 45,000 Litre Oval tanks with two proof support posts seen so often with cracks. This owner wanted a reinforced PVC liner.
22.01.2022 A little out of our normal drinking water tanks, a new septic tank riser unfortunately heavy machinery ran into the tank and punched a hole and cracked the tank.
22.01.2022 After the fires I just had to put this up after the rain, so nice to see a water again.
21.01.2022 If you are getting a bush fire smoke taste in the drinking water, it has not rained then and you have air conditioning please check if the condensate from the condenser is going into the gutter. Air conditioning condensate should not end up in your drinking water!
21.01.2022 Repair of drinking (potable) 100,000 Litre tank concrete tank. The old tar repair was on the inside but had water under it and new cracks has occurred.
21.01.2022 An inquiry regarding green material on a house ceramic filter was copper from the dwellings pipes. Possible electrical fault causing electrolysis.
20.01.2022 This is what a bore that has too much salt looks like, an expensive garden ornament. Unless you intend to use plenty of water a $30,000 Reverse Osmosis that delivers 20,000L per day and you still have all the salt in 10% of the water as waste. Please check the salinity levels in your area before you drill.
20.01.2022 Water Care has been using these 90 mm slide valves over the years and they are great value for money. There is one problem the handle breaks, so I had John at Windsor Wielding make me some out of 316 stainless steel that do the trick. They are not cheap at $20 each but its hand made in Australia.
19.01.2022 Magnesium Hydroxide treatment to reduce copper corrosion
19.01.2022 With the rain some times comes contamination of the water in the tank by a cracked pipe or overflow of muddy water. In this case Water Care used floculation of the water with Ferric Chloride the same chemical Sydney Water uses on drinking supplies. A jar test is used to find the right dose of chemical. Too much or too little the chemical does not work.
18.01.2022 Good to see PFAS detection becoming easier in the future.
17.01.2022 This 100,000 Litre concrete tank revealed the cracks in the floor when it was cleaned. Even after overnight drying the moisture shows up on the floor. We repaired the walls and then floor.
17.01.2022 November, and the tank clean with and odour turned out to be our first Red bellied black snake of the season. Unfortunately it was in one piece but very dead. Those black snakes love frogs and with the tanks low very hard to get back out. We cleaned the tank floor and treated the tank with Hydrogen peroxide.
16.01.2022 Inside a 100,000L concrete tank preparing the tank for a Silasec cement repair to the internal walls. The sand component of the cement is easily removed leaving the rock fill exposed
16.01.2022 More on odours, if you have an odour and not the colour of tea in the tank water, do you have air conditioning? Despite the Health Department warnings some air conditioners have been installed put the condensate into the gutter. Thats the drip from the unit in the ceiling tray on the larger units.
16.01.2022 A 90,000 Litre concrete block tank of roughly two rectangles clients are buying a load of water a week. The builder did not make the lining easy as the access is in the linen press floor after going through the front door up the stairs and through the lounge room. The 360 mm gap is the joining point between the 50,000 Litre section and the 40,000 Litre section.
15.01.2022 The rain has caused the ground to settle around this new, buried, 120,000 Litre water tank, pulling the inlet pipes away from the tank. Mud from around the tank has been washed into the tank resulting in muddy water. Floculation was used to cause the clay to sink to the bottom of the tank and give the client clean water. A jar test is used to determine the dose of Ferric Chloride.
14.01.2022 The exposed wall of this tank was cracked and the floor was cracked across the middle and around the edge.
14.01.2022 Its that time of the year again for our sewerage clients, sludge judge! An old but effective method of testing the levels of floating and sinking poo (Raw Effluent) in the septic tank (Primary Anaerobic chamber). No greater than 30% on top and no greater than 30% on the bottom. Or it will need to be pumped out.
13.01.2022 Privet roots growing around the inlet and into the tank.
13.01.2022 Artistically, lovely old tank. Practically, not worth fixing. Make a wood cover dog box etc. Scientifically. as the debris was broken down to mud this created acidic conditions at the base of the tank. The resulting carbon dioxide (an acid) attacked the zinc aluminum coating from the inside gradually eating to the outer layers.
13.01.2022 Before and after on 275,000L concrete tank
12.01.2022 Been fairly busy up in the Bilpin area, removed a fair amount of retardant from tanks and Just completed another treatment system.
12.01.2022 Colour and odours are the main problem lately, I treated 3 properties today and have to clean 2 tanks which are very low in water. Oxygen is the key for odours and de-stabilizing the water temperature gradient (warm water on the top and cold on the bottom stops mixing and thus no oxygen down low where the water is taken from) This is tap water into a white cup from a 100,000L tank on Bowen Mountain today the most colour of todays tanks.
11.01.2022 An inquiry regarding green material on a house ceramic filter was copper from the dwelling's pipes. Possible electrical fault causing electrolysis.
11.01.2022 The liner costs have been increasing with the lowest cost potable black PVC virtually disappeared and only reinforced PVC becoming the industry standard. The latest lining of a 100,000 litre concrete block tank presented a number of issues to be completed. A new access had to be cut into the concrete roof under the house, a siphons had to be used and over flow levels had to be addressed.
10.01.2022 With a lot of odours in the area due to the summer heat these venturis are proving a useful solution. They mix the tank (destratafy) and add air (oxygen) to the lower levels to reduce the without air (anaerobic) bacterial action.
10.01.2022 Sometimes the pre-tank filters are not maintained
09.01.2022 The odours and tastes have started occurring as the temperature has increased. The situation is generally because of the bacteria breaking down the debris washed into the tank running out of oxygen an breaking the debris down with out oxygen this leads to by products of methane, ammonia and sulphur dioxide (rotten egg gas). Treatments- Aerate the tank - hose from pump and splash water back into the tank, may work may last from a day to a week. Advantage cheap and easy. Disad...vantage often does not work. Kill the bacteria - Health department recommends chlorine- if the dose is correct and the addition is correct may last from a week to months. Advantages cheap. Disadvantages Will form by products, often chlorine is not added correctly, sometimes does not work, debris is still on bottom of tank and odour will come back next summer. Clean the tank - remove the debris from the bottom of the tank. Advantages removes food for bacteria, no odour. Disadvantages Cost. See more
09.01.2022 Hawkesbury River at Richmond ceases to flow January 1945
08.01.2022 Improving water quality with dirt and activated carbon plus first flush. First flush in this case also can act to stop water entering tank during roof cleaning, after dust storms and bush fire ash.
07.01.2022 The tank is sometimes not the only thing leaking, this copper pipe under the house is loosing a reasonable amount of water.
06.01.2022 Hope everyone is alright, with the ash please try to let the first rain on the roof wash the mess off, open those first flush devices or disconnect the down pipes so you can put them back on once the roof is clean.
06.01.2022 A Nine News investigation has uncovered a dirty secret - that farmers and their cattle have been contaminated by chemicals from the nearby RAAF base at Richmond. #9News | http://9News.com.au
05.01.2022 This is inside a new Aerated Water Tank, the front end loader slipped. The tanks use the steel pieces in the concrete not reinforcing mesh. Not pretty but ready to be buried now.
02.01.2022 Before and after on the entrance to the 275,000L concrete tank well done MJC Enterprises for the 316 stainless steel ladder
02.01.2022 When you get the gutters cleaned please clean the tank inlet
