22.01.2022 Well the season is about to start again and we are super excited! We are very close to capacity for the year but still have a few spots left for anyone still planning the year ahead! Our Life Cycles Workshop is increasing in popularity as we visit more and more schools around the South-East, talking about pupae and larvae and all the cool critters that start their journey in our waterways. Check out the program outline using the link below: http://www.waterbugwonders.com.au/primary-school-workshop--

18.01.2022 Building a community raingarden is one of the best ways to improve the health of our waterways Raingardens slow water flow, filter out yucky pollutants and t...reat stormwater run-off before it flows into local creeks and rivers. Weve just created one in parkland at the end of Davidson Street in Newmarket, so check out the video to see how its done! See more

18.01.2022 We are starting to take bookings for next year!! Please get in touch to secure your preferred dates. Email us at [email protected]

16.01.2022 Please read this article. Scary stuff!

16.01.2022 I am going Half Cut on August 31!! Did you know that half of the worlds forest have been cut? This wonderful non for profit organization is raising money to buy a patch of old growth rainforest in the Daintree. Just $2.50 will pay for 1 square meter of rainforest. No donation is too small. Only 12 days to go so please use the link below to donate to this cause and see me go Half Cut!!

15.01.2022 We had a wonderful Aquatic Explorers workshop with Kim from Kumbartcho Environmental Centre today. We took part in the National Waterbug Blitz and so far had over 35 taxa recorded (some yet to be formally identified)!! Many thanks to our enthusiastic junior waterbug detectives who helped spot lots of different waterbugs in our trays.

14.01.2022 Forgive me for saying this but Veliids suck...

14.01.2022 A write-up in the Dayboro Grapevine from our first free community workshop at Kumbartcho thanks to Unity Water and Moreton Bay Regional Council!

13.01.2022 Our last workshops for the year this week at Samford Community Kindergarten. Plenty of waterbugs to be caught!! I love the background sounds in this short video

12.01.2022 Tip number 2 is very easy to implement. How many times have you had to empty your wallet of unnecessary receipts? If you do not need a record of your purchase, get in the habit of saying no to receipts!

12.01.2022 Today was our third time visiting Caloundra City Private School! Such interested, informed and beautifully behaved children. Thankyou for having us back

12.01.2022 Bookings are starting to roll in for 2019! We now run the workshops from March right through to the end of November. Email me at [email protected] or phone me on 0408 876 102 to secure a date for your class. We cant wait for another year of Waterbug fun!

10.01.2022 My tip number 4 for reducing household waste is to get hold of some re-usable mesh fruit and vegetable bags. Give the pre-packaged fruit and vegetables a miss and hand pick your produce into your own mesh bags. This not only reduces plastic use but also gives fruit shops and supermarkets the message that we don't need our fruit and veggies packaged! Once you get home, place your greens into a sealed plastic container or try "The Swag" fridge produce bags. Check them out at https://www.theswag.com.au/collections/all . I have only just heard about them so if you have any feedback I would love to hear it!

10.01.2022 I think we are just going to get through this seasons workshops with the creek conditions the way they are! I have never seen Cedar Creek so low. Usually a spring fed flowing creek and is now down to a few puddles. Conditions are exacerbated by the heat and landholders pumping water out. Fingers crossed for some rain to help our creek critters continue to survive

10.01.2022 There are effects of the recent bushfires that we cannot yet predict...this is a good explanation

09.01.2022 Thanks to a few final donations my #halfcut drive raised over $1100! Woohoo!! So last Monday I went to Sister 2 Sister hairdressers in Petrie and got #halfcut- check it out below . Mel did an awesome job and donated the haircut to my cause. A huge thanks to Mel! I am pleased to say the Halfcut team raised enough money to buy the Daintree block

09.01.2022 Back to where it all started! We love visiting the beautiful Dayboro Kindergarten. Dedicated teachers in a rural setting where children are always engaged in the natural world around them

08.01.2022 Gosh it has been months since I have been here! I am collecting for our first workshop back since COVID-19 hit. We are very excited to be visiting Grande Avenue State School tomorrow!

07.01.2022 Every time I go to the creek I see plastic rubbish Did you know that this rubbish breaks down into micro plastic which is then consumed by waterbugs? And guess who is at the end of the food chain - us! thats right, plastic has now been traced right through the food chain to humans. ..... Try and reduce your household plastic waste. I have been on this journey in our household of four and have significantly reduced plastic packaging by shopping at my closest bulk food shop. More tips to follow

06.01.2022 Today is #halfcut day!! I will post a pic when its done!! Over $1000 raised- woohoo!!! We need to get serious about saving our species and our climate as we know it. This is just the beginning.......

04.01.2022 Rubbish is negatively impacting our waterways and oceans everyday! One way to tackle this problem is to reduce the waste we inadvertently create through everyday choices we make in our life. So this is the first of my tips for reducing your rubbish footprint on the Earth. Tackle one habit at a time and before you know it, your waste production will be drastically reduced! I will start very simple to get you started on your waste reduction journey . Please share these tips to your family and friends.

03.01.2022 I have a new toy! Check out this cool picture I took using a microscope camera of one of our Caddisfly larvae friends - the Hydropsychidae. You will find these clever little creatures in the riffle areas of streams. They use their large claws to hang onto rocks so that they dont get washed down the stream. The tufts of hair-like structures are gills that they use to breathe under the water.

02.01.2022 Todays aquatic explorers workshop was fantastic. Here are some great photos from Kidz Nature Adventures. Thankyou for sharing!

02.01.2022 Heres some great news to get your week started right! A fish not seen in the Bremer River for almost 15 years has been spotted once again... and in droves! F...ollowing Ipswich City Councils installation of a fish ladder at Barrys Weir at Yamanto, more than 1000 juvenile Freshwater mullet were caught and released during a single monitoring session earlier this year. Well done to everyone involved! Read the remarkable story below: See more

01.01.2022 An excellent explanation of the importance of unregulated river systems. Well worth the read
