25.01.2022 Cabarita back beach, one of the few back beaches on the north coast, a beloved respite from the nor’east summer curse. Part 2 of the next Morning, Noon and Night triptych. (See my last post for Part 1) Watercolour today, 26cm x 36cm.

25.01.2022 Barrington Tops National Park. Watercolour today, 30cm x 40cm

24.01.2022 I know, I’m a Tallow Beach addict. Watercolour today of that wonderful headland, 31cm x 53cm

22.01.2022 Happy to hear that my watercolour Moonee Estuary has been selected as a finalist in the 2020 Byron Arts Magazine Art Prize. This and the other 33 finalists’s works will be exhibited at NRCG from October 23 - December 13.

22.01.2022 2am in the littoral zone feels timeless. Watercolour nocturne 36cm x 56cm

21.01.2022 Tuckeroo and coastal banksia holding on amongst the endangered littoral zone at Clarke’s Beach, after more erosion took its toll on this extremely vulnerable area. Watercolour yesterday, 30cm x 40cm

20.01.2022 Broken Head is always a place of happiness. Watercolour today, 30cm x 40cm

20.01.2022 Tweed Valley cloud shadows. Watercolour 40cm x 50cm.

19.01.2022 Broken Head nocturne under a full moon, watercolour rendered in neutral tint. Anout 53cm x 32cm, painted yesterday.

19.01.2022 I'm intrigued by atmospheric sun flares and sparkling reflections. This open ocean rockpool obliged me nicely. Watercolour yesterday, 50cm x 70cm. Like most of the paintings that appear here, this is for sale. Please DM me if this, or something else, grabs your eye.

19.01.2022 Wategos turns turquoise on bluebird days like today. Plein air watercolour under a coastal banksia, interspersed with about 7 swims in that glorious ocean. 30cm x 40cm.

19.01.2022 The Pass before the stairs, before the stares, before the European carnage. Watercolour 38cm x 56cm

19.01.2022 I love the south coast of NSW. This is Flat Rock beach at nth Bendalong. Watercolour today from memory, 30cm x 40cm.

18.01.2022 Late afternoon shadows and mist at Cosy Corner, Tallow Beach. Watercolour yesterday, 31cm x 52cm

18.01.2022 A couple of plein air paintings from the last couple of days. The first on the Clarence at Grafton today, the second at Central Bucca, near Coffs Harbour yesterday. Both 26cm x 36cm.

18.01.2022 Late afternoon sketchbook watercolour splash, 20cm x 28cm, about 20 minutes. Tallow Beach looking south to Broken Head.

18.01.2022 Cabarita back beach, Nocturne in Payne’s Grey, watercolour 26cm x 36cm. This may become part of another Morning, Noon and Night triptych.

18.01.2022 Growing up in Bondi, my brother, my friends and me made many trips to surf and camp in the beautiful Royal National Park, only an hour away. It’s not all about surf though, and this stunning little beach on the Bundeena side is reminiscent of the beautiful beaches of Sydney Harbour to the north. The light had a very sparkly quality this day, and I tried to capture some of that in this watercolour. 30cm x 40cm

17.01.2022 The Villa. Inspiration comes from the unlikeliest places. This watercolour was prompted by a scene from The Durrells, a Netflix series and a veritable travelogue of scenic Corfu vignettes. I screenshot it and painted this yesterday. 30cm x 40cm

17.01.2022 Rapid test paint 14cm x 20cm watercolour scene from my imagination, to try out the new Baohong cotton rag paper. Feels familiar and Arches like; the texture potential may be actually better than Arches, more natural, but the jury is still out.

16.01.2022 Brunswick River under light rain this morning. Watercolour 25cm x 35cm.

16.01.2022 Another nocturne, this one looking north to Cosy Corner and Cape Byron Lighthouse, with the distant glow of the Gold Coast illuminating the northern horizon. Since the low level of light at night reduces the world of human perceptions to a fairly monochromatic reality, it is all about tone. Watercolour today from memory, 21cm x 31cm

15.01.2022 Shelly Beach, Pacific Palms on a beautiful day.

13.01.2022 The Billabong, near Broken Head. Watercolour 31cm x 53cm

12.01.2022 Belongil Estuary is unique and deserves to be protected. Watercolour today, 30cm x 40cm.

10.01.2022 The Young Redgum, Seven Mile Beach, near Lennox Head. The dappled light in the foliage behind the dunes is always a challenge to render realistically. Watercolour painted in the studio yesterday and today. 30cm x 40cm.

09.01.2022 Late sunlight splitting the dune foliage like atoms, 7 Mile Beach, Lennox Head yesterday. Watercolour 30cm x 40cm

09.01.2022 Wollumbin under the Milky Way. Watercolour 21cm x 31cm

08.01.2022 Distant Wollumbin under a hazy midday sun. I love the challenge of conveying atmosphere and distance using just water and pigment. Watercolour today, 30cm x 40cm.

05.01.2022 Back beach Cabarita is a summer sea breeze sanctuary. Watercolour today, 26cm x 36cm

03.01.2022 Never Never Creek, near Bellingen. Watercolour 30cm x 40cm

02.01.2022 Morning glare at Wategos, in sepia. This is a monochromatic version of a scene I painted a couple of years ago. Watercolour yesterday and today, 53cm x 35cm.
