25.01.2022 Bruce N Griffiths approaches watercolour with the dictum Let watercolour tell you what to do, but you control the brush. Water colour will paint the painting for you. Watercolour society of Qld workshop with Bruce demonstrated and guided us along the way as we attempted our 4 paintings over the 2 days. Bruce would show us the completed painting and then go on to demonstrate how he would paint it. Artists tell a story, said Bruce and indeed we all did tell our stories as... we assailed our paper with pigment. The beauty of doing workshops, as well as using on line and Utube is that you actually get some feedback from your tutor and this makes the experience a personal one. You have the opportunity to ask questions, such as ‘What about using a splatter here?, to which Bruce said Why not and demonstrated just that. You can ask for feedback on how you are progressing, and he can make recommendations along the way; just invaluable. 20.01.2022 "Tread Softly Challenge": Sangeet Hunter, and a sponsor to our Under 30’s Emerging Watercolour Artists, together with The Emporium Hotel South Bank, put a challenge to our members to paint and display a watercolour painting which resonates with the words Tread Softly. A panel of three judges including Sangeet, a representative from 4KQ and Helen Beaver selected the winners. In fairness the display was divided into two sections - experienced members of the society and em...erging members of the society. It was not selected on techniques, but inpretations of the word "Tread Softly". The challenge was put to us in fun. Thank you to all who entered - it created an interesting area to the exhibition and opened lots of dialogue about the environment. Penelope Gilbert-Ng was selected for her painting resembling treading softly through nature as to not damage the environment, or the forrest floor and Julie Brims for her contemporary painting on treading softly to protect our water. Tread Softly is a range of moderate alcohol wines that for every dozen sold, we commit to planting a tree in conjunction with Carbon Neutral Australia. The production of the wine is also mindful of the environment, including careful vineyard and water management. Can you imagine purchasing a case of wine and actively helping the environment? As of September, they have planted 124,741 native trees and shrubs. Where would we be without our Sponsors. Thank you Fourth Wave Wines and Emporium Hotel South Bank. 17.01.2022 Helen Caldwell - watercolour Artist and member of the WSQ society Qld. Helen was voted by the members the best painting with the theme of Skies at the recent WSQ General Meeting - Title: Among the stars, painted in March 2019. I watched a lot of videos and experimented to develop my own technique involving thick 640gsm paper, masking fluid and a tilt-board technique with minimum colours just placed on the very watery board. I use 2 or 3 layers to develop depth. I became interested in painting starry skies after I pointed my Nikon 5300 at the Super Blue Blood moon in February 2018 with very satisfying results. I became hooked on astrophotography and painting starry skies. Among the stars is my latest but not last starry sky! I plan a Brisbane River at night painting.

04.01.2022 Tony Waker - says thanks for a good event today .meaning the Morning Tea at the Emporium Hotel, South Bank Level 21 on Monday 7th September where guests were invited to sketch the city views from level 21 But, as Tony said . We slipped up on the wind control.!!!!! You can see by the picture Tony had to tape his painting to the glass panel but still managed to produce an amazing painting. Tony says. "With miles of drafting tape to hold it down I managed the attached s...ketch in pen and acrylic ink. For pen/wash sketches, I commence with a line drawing with fountain pen (with fude nib), spreading the line in places with a water pen. Then I brush on acrylic ink colo.- watercolour technique but with dominant linework. The black pen ink is Noodlers brand and coloured inks are Liquitex. Someone asked why not use watercolour. This technique makes a refreshing change and brings out quite different aspects of the subject. https://www.tonywalker.com.au Painting: by Tony Wlaker Picture: Tony Walker and Ferie Sadeghi. 01.01.2022 Students at the Watercolour Society Qld workshop with Bruce Griffiths received a surprising and terrific souvenir on the last day of the workshop. He cut up one of his paintings into bookmarks and he gave each one of us, and himself, a bookmark each. He said it was a reminder that we are a tribe on this art journey together. He demonstrated how the painting with all 13 pieces lined up, side by side, worked well, making up the painting as a whole, and how if we took one piece ...out it would not work. Those sentiments gave the workshop a final touch and made it quite special. It was a wonderful workshop, well worth attending. Next workshop Paul Margoscy 13th March - one day special Cees Sliedrecht - Sunday 7th and Sunday 14th. - 2 days workshop - "Drawing with Flare" Details: https://watercoloursocietyqld.com.au/workshops-classes/ Bruce Noel Griffiths Watercolour Society of Queensland Inc #watercolour #watercolourworkshops
