25.01.2022 Feeling very sad. It had to happen one day. When any horse’s time has come, it’s not easy. But when it is one of our guest horses, one of our gorgeous guest horses and a newcomer at that, it really is not very fair. To some he may have been just a retired Thoroughbred. But to his humans, he was a very special creature with a big loving heart and the sweetest, most trusting nature.... We only knew you for a short time Bailey, but we loved you as one of our own, and it was a big honour having you here in our care. Rest in peace, you lovely horse.

23.01.2022 Welcome Bess and Tiger. After an arduous 830 km journey over two days we have the pleasure of looking after Bess (18hh ShireX) and Tiger (a grey Standie no less) for a few weeks while their owners organise moving to the district. They were both exceptional on the trip and were exposed to quite a plethora of new sights, sounds and tastes - even surviving a blown tyre on the M1! Now after a couple of days here at Waterfall Creek, they are more than at home. (And we thought MacGregor and Tilly were 'large' horses!)

22.01.2022 We are currently feeling deeply touched by a card sent to us from the owner of Bailey, a beautiful guest horse who met an unexpected and untimely end after only being with us for a short period of time. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture from Bailey's person. It meant a huge amount to us. Bailey still lives in our thoughts and hearts, and will do for a long time to come.

21.01.2022 November = bush fly season = fly veils. One of the few human interventions that we believe the horses really appreciate - and confirmed when most of the herd come up when called by name, lower their heads and have a fly veil put on for the day. This ritual goes on until the temperature rises, the humidity lowers and the dung beetles get prolific and disrupt the fly breeding cycle in the manure in the paddocks.

16.01.2022 Scratch time for Gemma.

15.01.2022 Another relatively surprise-free visit from the herd's favourite equine dentist Lisa Kuronya :) Each six months Lisa travels to Waterfall Creek to keep our current herd of 15 horses' teeth in good shape. Pics of our new guest horse Bailey getting his teeth tuned up.

14.01.2022 And we welcome a new guest horse Bailey. After a big day being transported from near Melbourne, Bailey settled in with a couple of quiet companions. He had his hooves tidied up today and seems to be really well settled in to the life at Waterfall Creek. (A super nice horse is Bailey - but aren't they all?)

12.01.2022 Most horse people might get this - "Stunning looker. First to see will buy". hehehehehe

08.01.2022 Our very own Silver Brumby - MacGregor.

05.01.2022 Gemma, one of our Guest Horses, thoroughly enjoying a massage under the experienced hands of Adele. The difference in Gemma's coat condition and general softening of the tension she carries has been lovely to see. Adele used a T-Touch head wrap on Gemma that helps with tension release, and it was quite extraordinary to see the instant effect it had on Gemma when it was put on - it was like a hypnotist had snapped their fingers and said 'sleep'...her eyes drooped, her head dropped slightly and everything softened...amazing! (yet on another of our horses it had no effect at all).

04.01.2022 Waterfall Creek Horse Retirement and Boarding has now closed due to the sale of our property. We have re-homed some of our guest horses as well as some of our own herd. We chose only the best options and people who aligned with our philosophies of good horsecare. And we have relocated our smaller herd of seven horses to a lovely property near to where we have moved.... Running Waterfall Creek Horse Retirement and Boarding over the years has been a wonderful experience. We have met and got to know many beautiful horses, and their humans who love and care deeply for these lovely beings. Thanks to all who have supported and liked our service over the years. Glenn and Kelly

03.01.2022 And now for something completely different......and funny too

02.01.2022 In the past 10 years or so we have only used rugs on two occasions - two days! Once on a 42 year old when a real sudden cold snap came early in autumn and once when a horse was not well. Other than that the horses here seem to cope with minus 6 frosty mornings and all that winter can throw at them. With abundant ad-lib feed and plenty of shelter the horses are perfectly adapted without the need for horse rugs.... (Naturally we work in consultation with all owners, and if an owner ever felt a specific need to have their horse rugged that can be done...to date all Guest Horse owners have been very happy to discover their horses have not needed rugging, and not only survived but thrived :) )
