19.01.2022 The Belubula Headwaters Protection Group

18.01.2022 Statement by Maria ‘Polly’ Cutmore Native Title Applicant for Gomeroi Nation 24 September 2020 I have been a Native Title Applicant for the Gomeroi Nation sinc...e 2016. I know because of Covid19 restrictions, it has been hard to get around to all groups in country, but I was elected to oppose any permanent damage to land and water. Proposals to allow mining, private water use, pipes, rail and other infrastructure on crown lands is happening at increasing levels right now. On top of the list is Santos’ Narrabri Project who we have been dealing with since 2018. Since my time on the Applicants Group, Santos have refused to provide information on cultural heritage, water and biodiversity impacts from what they are proposing to the Group despite repeated requests and now expects us to act ‘in good faith’. Santos do not know of all the important cultural areas in their proposed gas field, and the money they are proposing is a pittance compared to what we as a Nation could lose through sustainable use of our cultural resources. I don’t believe the consultation with the Gomeroi Nation over the Narrabri Project has been adequate. Only one aboriginal community group supports the gas project, the Narrabri Local Aboriginal Land Council, who represent one family. My own experience with land councils in Gomeroi has not been one of working together in good faith for the benefit of all Gomeroi People. Santos have been applying pressure on the Applicants to sign away Gomeroi Native Title and water rights over the Pilliga Forest. This will not happen unless agreed to by the whole Nation and we have asked NTSCorp to make this meeting happen so that all people, young and old and from all parts of Gomeroi country can have their say. All Gomeroi are custodians of the artesian basin as it covers all of Gomeroi country, it is connected to our bloodlines, rivers and lakes, cultural sites and resources. I want to encourage all Gomeroi people to ask your applicant representatives for a Gomeroi Nation meeting to happen as so the issue of the Narrabri Project can be decided once and for all. It is our country, our decision, not the decision of Scott Morrison, because Gomeroi holds the native title. I would also like to tell Gomeroi people that the energy company, Energy Australia, should be boycotted by the Gomeroi mob due to their investment in Santos. This company is a private electricity supplier, have been driving prices up due to their involvement with onshore gas and given our mob nothing. See you at the Nation meeting.

17.01.2022 Well said. Give it back!! Floodplain harvesting means privatising water then giving the big guys money to build private dams and then letting them take water for free that farmers, community and environment have to pay for = looking after your mates $$$ who look after you $$$ (so to speak) National Party style

16.01.2022 Green Left's Mat Ward was as pissed off as most people when Santos' coal seam gas project was approved in Narrabri, despite 98% of people opposing it. He decided to spend a few days cycling the area in the north-west of New South Wales before it's possibly destroyed forever. Along the way, he met the activists who are fighting back. https://www.greenleft.org.au//i-travelled-visit-narrabri-g
