24.01.2022 The ol quick fly by the op shop before I pick up the kids trick strikes again. I can now have 35 people for lunch easy if I want to, not that I want to or am allowed to at the moment but that's beside the point. Thanks to this lot if we do have our Christmas Eve shindig this year you can rest assured there won't be a paper Santa plate in sight. 20.01.2022 Welcome to Friday Recliner friends - a little something to get your weekend started on a relaxed note and a quiet place to rest a while. Any plans for the weekend? All the beautiful sun we've been getting lately is calling me so I'm looking forward to some time outside. Its even making me want to stretch out on the grass which let's just say is a risky business with all the furry and feathered animals running around at my place so I might just settle for a lawn chair or going to the park. 20.01.2022 Hi friends welcome to The Friday Recliner. The year is marching on (sigh of relief from all) and it continues to remind us good and proper that life is a gift and that love and joy are precious and powerful commodities. Not just a whim or a fancy but the sort of things that can push back the darkness in the world. We’ve had to go looking for that joy a bit harder this year, dig a little deeper, not able to rely on the usual distractions and I think were all the fuller and wiser for it. This week, on the home front we had the gale force winds for a few days taking a bit of our verandah roof with them, followed by the kind of balmy sunny spring days that soothe like a love song. Its a roller coaster friend. On that note then, lets ease on into the weekend

13.01.2022 Welcome to this weeks Friday Recliner friends - a little something to get your weekend started on a relaxed note and a quiet place to rest a while. Hoping this finds you taking yourself a nice long breath and maybe with your feet up as well. This week I've prioritised making pretty cushion covers out of thrifted fabric over unpacking two bags of groceries that have sat on my kitchen floor all week. 12.01.2022 There are no small pleasures. Pleasure is pleasure and if you can find things to enjoy, it no longer feels small, it feels beautiful Mary Pipher . The most gorgeous sunny day here today with just the hint of a breeze. The warmth so nice after last weekends perishing winds. Working today though so that bits no fun. At least I’m at home . Earlier in the week I swapped out my old bed side table for this beauty ... . Now I’m well aware she won’t be everyone’s cuppa tea or idea of beauty. In fact, you might break the land/sea speed record getting it out to the kerb in hopes someone might take her off your hands. Better still, drag it a bit further onto the road and let a truck drive over it. I get it completely . One thing I’ve learned though through the years of obsession with all things house and homey is that in the end it’s about what makes you happy. Choosing the things that make your heart sing or that put a smile on your face or give you that soothing long exhale feeling. If there’s anywhere we should be able to enjoy the things that make us happy it’s in our homes . All that to say I love this set of drawers I’ve now got parked next to my bed. I love the bright green colour, I love the kitschy handles, I love the boxy shape with the tinsy bit of detail round the edge and I love the big drawers I can shove a load of stuff in . Your turn now. Whats something in your home right now that’s making you grin xxx See more
12.01.2022 THURSDAY WORK FROM HOME / LIFE FROM HOME UPDATE . Started the day with what I'd call a pretty darn ordinary cup of coffee. Left the kettle sit a bit too long after boiling so wasn’t quite hot enough. Needed an extra spoonful of coffee in the plunger too. I don't often misjudge, I always err on the side of blow your socks off rather than wishy washy but today wasn’t the day. Caffeine still went in though and better than none at all. Followed that up with a barefoot dash arou...nd the garden in my night clothes. As good as caffeine. Not as leisurely. Discovered two of our lady bunnies had got out during the night. My fault, I’d opened the cage to give them magnolia flowers which I think is their equivalent of chocolate - got them all hyped up, then didn't close the door properly. They seemed none the worse this morning for their night on the town, but praying PRAYING !! Lucius our big free range alpha rabbit didn't pay them a visit during the night. He looked pretty happy with himself this morning but he always does seeing he has complete run of the yard, terrorising the chooks and the dogs so it's anybody's guess. Still got the boy across town by 8am to pick up his new Playstation - he must have asked me 20 times in the last week if I was available to drive him there by 8 and the answer each time was yes I am. Then all nearly got derailed by the bunnies getting out. Then two trips to school. One to deliver Liv and one to deliver her forgotten bus pass. Good ol times . Logged into work at nine. I completely love my job but somedays it’s two thirds helping people out - the bit I like and one third getting a good solid ear bashing from those who we apparently haven’t ever in the slightest way, done a thing to help out. Anyhoo they usually feel all better once I’ve heard them out (don’t we all) and there’s always one way or another to sort a problem out . A good day I call it, a good life . Just give me a strong cuppa coffee, a stroll around the garden and a bunny or two to play with at lunch time . Anyone else work from home ? See more
12.01.2022 We cultivate bunnies pretty well in my back garden. Mess too. It goes with the territory when you’ve got more furry feathered things than good sense . Looking back we could have kept it simple, one dog, a simple square of grass, a civilised deck, a couple of pot plants . Many a day I’ve longed for just that ... . but we didn’t. I’ll blame it on what happens when your eyes see a standard suburban plot but your heart and your boy see backyard farm . We started with tearing the yard apart, (landscaping some folk call it) holy cow, what a saga, the mud, the almighty mess, took a good two years and then some. Oh the joy when the grass finally FINALLY went down (Ethan a bit miffed that his mountain was gone). Then getting our first trampoline that turned out almost as wide as the yard, (didn’t look that big online). Two dogs and then two litters of the most gorgeous puppies were thrown into the mix, four chickens (there was one rooster among them that crowed continuously so had to go live on a proper farm) a couple of ducks, guinea pigs, quails and two sweet female bunnies- - - - or so we thought (nine at last count but no more) . Idyllic one day, hell in a hand basket the next. But what we lacked in style and zen like calm (still do) I think maybe we made up for in jolly good times. Apart from having our own petting zoo, there were the rip snorting kids birthday parties twice a year, the slippy slide the dogs liked to go down and pop up swimming pools as good a fun in the heat as one ten times the size . We cultivate bunnies and mess pretty well it’s true but were cultivating beautiful memories too . Day 5// CULTIVATE . #hopewriters #hopewriterlife #lovethehomeyouhave #backyardfarmyard See more
11.01.2022 How was your day ? . Their a mixed bag aren’t they . Today was a good day here. Nothing earth shatteringly exciting, just out and about with my girl... . Drive to Helensburgh, brunch, thrifting, strolling through gorgeous stores, @beartrader and @sunrisenursery and a round of putt putt golf. Beaten by a nose. So much fun then took the scenic way home . Liking these words from Lanecia Rouse Tinsley Keep your eyes open. Lean into new things. Cultivate delight. Savour what is good. Bring it all to the canvas as you feel your way through life - and don’t be afraid to get a little messy along the way @larartstudio. New post on my blog today if you care to read. 10.01.2022 Hi friends. Welcome. Friday hey. Need a quiet place to cool your heels a while? Need a few minutes to yourself ? Yep me too So here are a few good things I’ve pulled together with that in mind.... https://waterintowineblog.com//the-friday-recliner-januar/
10.01.2022 Midweek progress thanks to gorgeous spring weather and 45 minute lunch breaks . Just the drainage to finish off, some more gravel and then I get to plant up the garden bed .
09.01.2022 Looking for a good read? Me, always. So I thought I’d share a few book reviews as I come across them.
09.01.2022 I’m always sniffing about for something to make or fix up or sort out. Spoilt for choice around here . This week it was jooshing up an old basket in what feels like my signature teal and making some more cushion covers. Almost made a mess of it because the fabric was a bit slippery but I wooed it into a cushion cover in the end. On a grander scale I’m also trying to finish off landscaping the mother of all side yards so its nice to do a few small easy projects that involve n...othing more complicated than slapping paint on a basket and sewing a square . The side yard? Yep that old chestnut again - still at it and finally about 90% there. If your not familiar I’ve been slowly and I mean inch by inch slowly turning what was our horror side yard into swanky side thoroughfare . Here's what slows me down time and time again though. I'll make progress nicely and then I’ll hit a bit of a snag. There's rock where I’m trying to dig a hole or the drainage channel won't fit together the way it should or there's more leveling of the ground to do and suddenly it all seems too big and too hard. So then I avoid it and I avoid it and the longer I leave it the bigger and harder it gets in my head. Anyone else? I do it with other things as well. Anyhoo I've finally learned a thing or two about pushing through. When it seems too hard, I try and make it the easiest thing in the world. I give it twenty minutes. I set the timer and tell myself that’s all I have to do. And nine times out of ten that twenty minutes will get me over the hump and the big hard thing that had been putting me off is done. The rock comes loose, the channel finally stays together, I get the dirt shifted. Always, always there's some progress made and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel again. So if you need to - trick yourself into action or creativity. Just give it twenty minutes. It’ll get you somewhere that you weren’t before . Day 6// CREATE (A week late but who’s counting) . #hopewriter #hopewriterlife #lovethehomeyouhave #itsajungleoutthere #repurpose #reuse #recycle See more
06.01.2022 Don't be afraid of your fears. They're not there to scare you. They're there to let you know that something is worth it. C. JoyBell C . We’re alive - of course we’re scared. Half out of our wits somedays but here we are wielding courage like a weapon, like an expert, like He made us for it, like love wins out always . Courage done a thousand different ways... . In opening up or turning up or speaking up . In loving right into the messy old fray . In saying yes . In saying NO . Saying goodbye, laying our burden down, letting go . In busting a move because it feels like you or choosing to walk the opposite way . Courage when we swallow the medicine, or dial the number or hit the Publish button . Courage in staying or leaving or changing or forgiving - ourselves included . Yes we’re scared a little bit spit-less but we’re doing this good life anyway . 02.01.2022 What if joy was the rhythm I moved to. Like a steady reliable heartbeat. But easier to dance to . Sounds odd given all my missteps, odder given these current times. Sounds entirely fanciful when you're the melancholy type or the worrying type or the waiting for the other shoe to fall type. But we can change our mind can't we? What's a new year or a new week or a new day for if not to change our minds and go a different way . And joys come calling this year to my surprise. ...Like a dare. Like a stranger who might just end up my best friend. You know the ones that just keep hanging about till they win you over. Like my best friend IRL did so many years ago. Who kept saying let's have coffee. Lets go to the movies. Man I wondered what she was after at first. I'd been burnt before. Turns out she wanted a pal, someone to eat lunch with and bare her soul to and laugh crazy with and that was me and we still are. Like second nature. Joy could be too . Joy because love. And love lasts and hope keeps rising and mercy loves falling and are the real things that save us all . This is DAY 6 (for me, getting there slowly) of the Hopewriters Challenge. Today’s prompt word is RHYTHM . #2021 #myeclecticmix #hopewriters #preloved #hopewriterlife #amillionlittlegraces See more
01.01.2022 This year I’ve started back up with a few habits that fell by the wayside somewhere last year. One of them has been writing first thing every morning. Twenty minutes for me, then twenty for someone else. It feels the way it feels when you eat good decent wholesome food. Not flashy at all but you know it’s doing you good and keeping you steady and getting you somewhere. Like how a walk around the block that can seem so pathetic next to a six mile run will nonetheless do you m...ore good than you imagine it could. With those morning words I’ve been able to join in the @hopewriters writing challenge without blowing a gasket or it dragging into hours and hours . And as I’ve finally reached the end of it (a good week behind most) I’m celebrating finishing. It’s good to finish and good to be ok with finishing behind. I’d like it different some days but slow is just the way I roll. I read these words this week that put this view on it The whole culture is telling you to hurry. While the art is telling you to take your time. Always listen to the art @victoriaericksonwriter . A few other things I’m celebrating today fitting back into my little black Table Eight dress that I must of had for 15 years. I thought our party days were over but never say never, today like old friends we headed off to churchthen there’s the gorgeous summer weather we’ve been having and an ocean only a short drive away and because nothings too small these days I’m gonna mention my lovely thrifted fabric looking pretty snazzy out on the back verandah table. Now your turn. Celebrating anything today? . P.S To all you hopewriters, goodness I’ve loved reading some of your posts . You’re kind company and clever as punch with those words x This is DAY 7 (finally ) of the Hopewriters Challenge. Today’s prompt word is CELEBRATE . #2021 #myeclecticmix #hopewriters #preloved #hopewriterlife #amillionlittlegraces See more
