22.01.2022 We have all heard the expression "It takes a village to raise a child". Today I pondered what if It takes a village to raise the child in us? At times as adults we get swallowed up in the daily routines of life and can easily under nourish creativity and joyful delight. We grow and move through our rites of passage events to adulthood and our deepest delights of childish joys are disreguarded. What if we hung on to these childish joys and cherished and shared them? Today I w...ondered into Dymocks and passed an unusual shelf. It caught my eye immediately. The books were wrapped carefully in recycled brown paper and tied with string. In beautiful cursive handwriting the staff had written some of the main themes of the book and what they loved about them as if the book were a prospective date! There was also a hand written tag written in white chalk pen on matt black card, just like a blackboard, tied to the book saying "Book Date Night". There was no identifying features of the book itself. The effort and creativity that had gone into each mystery book date was just so engaging. It left you wanting to read each of their clever date book covers. The staff had obviously delighted in doing it and had spent considerable time on the project. Their fun and joy was obvious. It was original and inspired. It was simply fun. But would we buy a book not seeing the cover or reading the author's trailer? Would we take the same delightful risks we took in childhood? It takes a village to remind and surprise us with their individuality, difference, creativity and delight, that the fun and joy of life can be in the most surprising places. Thank you to the staff of Dymocks Karrinyup, you tickled my funny bone, inspired and delighted me today. Your small act of childishness will reach others beyond your shelf. I hope I can pay it forward and share my own creativity and sense of fun to delight my village and nourish creativity and joy. Sue-Ellen Bull Director and Senior Writer WBBUH

12.01.2022 Inspirations-Roger Dickinson I have been inspired by so many wonderful unique story tellers and creatives in my own journey but none more so than Roger Dickinson. When at the career cross roads of choice and pondering quietly which path to travel, an inspirational colleague popped his head into my office as I was editing hours of footage, on a very old VCR editing machine, into small 60 second chunks of inspiring teachers doing their magic in classrooms across WA. We had dri...ven for miles to Narrogin and beyond and had fantastic visits all across WA to film star teachers and their students. I was sitting in a windowless room noting capture numbers ,a process that requires intense focus and hours to complete. He knew I was unsure if I should go back to the classroom or explore the jungles of multi-media production once a 18 month secondment to the multi-media unit he directed concluded with DET. I held this colleague in awe for his dynamic personality, skilful flair for design and creativity, and a unique but pragmatic view of the world. I forgave his all too frequent references to someone called Terry Pratchet.(Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy) At times he forgave me for my questions about everything.(including Windows auto style format protocols arrr) and gently finessed our mutual design decisions. It was a time of deep creative immersion and learning. It was the essence of fulfilment to work with someone so talented and generous. He said to me "the choice is simple Sue-Ellen do you want to sell soda pop or change the world?"He also asked me what my dream job would be. A few weeks later he called me into his office and offered me that job for the best 2 years of my life, a decision that would ensure my free thinking and willingness to try new things for a life time. Roger Dickinson you changed the way I viewed the world. I saw it as visual, physical and emotional experience to be chased explored and altered with beauty, dedication and great fun and to be lived intensely. I chose the dream, the exploration of creativity, because of the advice and opportunities you so generously shared. That advice and the experience of working alongside you changed the course of my life. It gave me the confidence to travel a path less travelled rich in diversity and experiences. Thank you for the inspiration you have been in my life. You are appreciated more than you know and I am so thrilled to see you chasing your artistic dreams and vision in creative places and communities with your amazingly beautiful digital art and photography. You are the Art in life. Thank you Roger.

09.01.2022 Growing Your Own Path As teenagers grow they look for direction. Increasingly they judge the paths taken by significant others and either intentionally or unintentionally take steps along a path that is often riddled with uncertainty. It is a dichotomy of seeking wisdom and unknown futures. Identifying, and overcoming or navigating barriers builds character and personality. It is an ongoing iterative process. Perhaps it is the creative but mechanical child who has many facet...Continue reading

05.01.2022 Unlimited horizons exist even in our everyday urban experiences. You just have to embrace the flow of life and see where it takes you. Everyone knows I love Kookaburras but today was magic. We went to help our neighbours with their stuck roller door and found a distressed kookaburra confused and trying to fly out a glass window on their verandah. I gently picked it up in a soft cloth and helped it outside. It screeched blue murder at me but trusted me and let me carry him out...side. Such a beautiful creature sitting on their Hill's hoist waiting for a feed. Roller door fixed and priceless kookaburra holding experience just awesome. Everyone happy. Neighbours have now christened me "Wildlife Warrior Princess". Sounds good to me. Sue-Ellen Bull Director/Senior Writer WBBUH

04.01.2022 Inspiration-Wonders of Western Australia Our native wild flowers are survivors. They wait patiently in our arid landscapes ready to burst into showers of beauty and delight once we have forgotten them. Their intricate details delight our senses. Feast your senses and be inspired. The visual splendour is a valuable source of creative inspiration. Well worth a road trip to connect with the joy and beauty waiting in remote still places in Western Australia.

03.01.2022 Here is a taste from the first novel in the series for teens to wet your appetite.... The water thumped, tight and hard, like an unforgiving drum skin. The wind its unhappy conductor motioning its violent changes of pace and volume, consuming me in its unexpected movements. No time to anticipate, no time to influence my consumption of its relentless onslaught. My senses are captivated, my mind an unwilling audience. Then ....
