09.01.2022 Back to Basics Decreasing your chemical load. Let’s dive in to 2 of the lesser known chemicals stressors ones that can have a big impact on your health. . 1. CLEANING PRODUCTS While the chemicals in cleaners foam, bleach, and disinfect to make our dishes, bathtubs and countertops gleaming and germ-free, many also contribute to indoor air pollution, are poisonous if ingested, and can be harmful if inhaled or touched. In fact, some cleaners are among the MOST TOXIC product...s found in the home. What to look for A few safe, simple ingredients like soap, water, baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice aided by a little elbow grease and a coarse sponge for scrubbing, can take care of most household cleaning needs. . . 2. BEAUTY PRODUCTS In Australia, and many other countries, there is currently no standard or governing board to monitor and control what goes into beauty and skin care products. Unless you read the labels, you wouldn’t know what you are putting on your skin. Here are some of the nasty toxins, chemicals and heavy metals you might find lurking in your makeup draw . . . Phthalates are a group of chemicals that may be disruptive to the endocrine system, which is responsible for hormone production. Fragrance means that manufacturers don’t have to list any of the one to who knows how many ingredients you may find under that label. If you see anything labelled fragrance it’s best to avoid it unless it's natural such as essential oils. There’s a documentary on Netflix called Stink which is definitely worth watching. Lead is a toxic heavy metal; however it is actually still found in a lot of beauty products. You won’t actually see lead on the label of your products but it comes from colour additives and contamination. The best way to avoid it is by choosing companies that use natural colours. Parabens is something you’ll see as a paraben free label on many products now so it’s pretty easy to stay away from it. Parabens can mimic estrogen, and have been detected in human breast cancer tissue. . What to look for Read labels for these ingredients. You may have noticed or even commented on the fact that Kadee & Sarah stand instead of sit in our office... here are some of the reasons why .... . Living a sedentary lifestyle can be dangerous to your health. The less sitting or lying down you do during the day, the better your chances for living a healthy life. If you live a sedentary lifestyle, you have a higher chance of being overweight, developing type 2 diabetes or heart disease, and experiencing depression and anxiety. . . . Humans are built to stand upright. Your heart and cardiovascular system work more effectively that way. Your bowel also functions more efficiently when you are upright. When you are physically active, your overall energy levels and endurance improve, and your bones maintain strength. . . . Sitting for long periods can also cause problems with your back, especially if you consistently sit with poor postureor don’t use an ergonomically designed chair or workstation. Poor posture may also cause poor spine health such as compression in the discsin your spine, leading to premature degeneration, which can be very painful. . . . Build more activity into your day * Walk or cycle, and leave the car at home. * Enquire about getting a sit-stand desk at work. * Use the stairs instead of the lift or escalator, or at least walk up the escalator. * Get off the bus one stop early and walk the rest of the way. * Park further away from wherever you’re going and walk the rest of the way.
