08.01.2022 MARKET REPORT WATERSHED COMMS: Previous to this week’s rain, hot and dry weather has tied up winter crop harvest for the majority of central and Northern NSW. Barley was under pressure throughout the week with prices dropping up to $15/mt, this has been a result from imports from WA filling the gaps on ex farm selling. Barley is now trading up to $40/mt less than wheat which has not been seen for quite some time. Wheat has been trading with little price movement throughout th...e winter harvest, some good numbers of high protein wheat has been selling, with growers happy to see premiums for these higher grades of wheat. This Past week has brought significant change coming into the festive season, with much needed rainfall across central west and northern NSW regions as well as southern Qld. Up to 60mm of rainfall has been recorded through areas of the Liverpool Plains and Narrabri/Moree regions. Growers have welcomed the rain with open arms, as it brings an enormous spark to the current summer crop that has been in much need of a good drink. over the past 2 weeks sorghum prices have no doubt softened with the anticipation of rainfall patterns and brings high hopes to growers as further late December showers are predicted which will increase sorghum yields dramatically. DOMESTIC DELIVERED PRICES WEEK OF 10/12/2018: Wheat feed values remaining strong. $440 SFW1 delivered Downs for Jan 19, $443 delivered Texas Jan spread, $433 Liverpool Plains Jan, Brisbane port $415 FOT Jan, Newcastle port $420 FOT Jan. 05.01.2022 ~MARKET REPORT~ In the past few weeks Rainfall across the state has been disappointing, with next to no rain recorded across central and northern NSW, growers concerns are at high with the current sorghum crop fails and fears coming into winter months what moisture profile will be available for winter crop sowing! The only advantage seen from this lack of rain is farmers saving coin on summer fallow spraying. As we are well into summer crop harvest more accurate numbers on y...ield and quality are coming through with early crops in the North going 2mt/hectare and later crops almost to the point of failure going 500kg/hectare. Although there is still a number of Sorghum crops to be stripped, Some farmers have been lucky enough to be under some isolated storms over the summer and the odd crop and especially irrigated crop has been going 5mt/hectare. As expected the sorghum market remains at the forefront with demand at a high, pricing is on a upward spiral as SOR1 continues to be hard to obtain with high screenings and low test weights pushing the grain into SOR2 grades. Anywhere from the NSW/QLD boarder down to Narrabri area Sorghum is trading at around the $350/mt mark (ex farm) with bids less $20/mt for SOR2. All that buyers and traders can do now is watch closely how the Liverpool plains crop progressing in the coming weeks, any SOR1 grades will be chased fiercely as traders will look to fill contracts into the Newcastle market. Although sorghum yields have been low there has been some downward pressure on barley and wheat markets the past week. The lack of buyer bids has seen prices tending to be lower, however the trending of sellers being reluctant to sell will again see prices to continue to climb. SFW1 delivered downs was offered at $440/MT with little bidding activity. F1 barley came under pressure again this week and was bid into the Downs at $395/MT. See more
