25.01.2022 Who needs to leave the ACT to go camping when you can just come to Wattle!! We regularly light up the fire pit to have hot chocolate, toast marshmallows, make smores and sing songs. Whilst today's experience has extended from multiple encounters throughout the year, more recently the children read Waltzing Matilda and all took an interest in how he boiled his billy can on the fire. So, with that, the team planned to set up a campfire to make damper rolls and boil up the bi...lly and also set up a swag for the children to engage in. We have many families who regularly go camping, therefore it is a great continuation on children's interests and family involvement. Camping is good for the soul . The fresh air, socialisation, exercise, sunshine, good food, connection with nature and even a good night's sleep improve moods and reduces stress .. I think a Wattle camping trip will be in our future plans!
25.01.2022 Get excited!! We had some further works completed to our outdoor space this weekend as our real grass area was just unable to withstand our extreme level of play! So we had our beautiful natural looking astroturf installed, to provide another evergreen space to allow our imaginations to run wild! *Also, the civil works have been completed and the road has reopened!*
25.01.2022 Sometimes it is difficult to look below the surface in the 'heat of the moment' with challenging behaviours, but theory tells us there is always a reason or a trigger to every behaviour we see. This image I came across is such a true and wonderful example of those thoughts and feelings we don't often see or sometimes even understand at the time these behaviours are happening.
25.01.2022 With school holidays at an end, we remind you of your requirement to quarantine and isolate if you have travelled to any of the mentioned areas in the following advice from ACT Health. Please advise us if you are affected and your child will be absent for the isolation period. If you are booked for the centre tour this coming Saturday, your requirements to isolate are the same - please let us know if you'll need to reschedule your tour, if you too, are affected. ... Please assist us in keeping our Wattle community safe!
25.01.2022 We are so proud to support small businesses at Wattle wherever we can, and even more pleased to have recently come across this beautiful business who just align so closely to our own philosophy here at Wattle and share such strong family values, as do we! As you all know, we love a good candle burning in the foyer and loving our new supplier - thank you Emi & Ivy hand poured soy candles - the coffee bean and coconut is going down a treat today <3 #newcandles #supportsmallbusiness
25.01.2022 Wishing all the fathers and significant people in all our lives a very happy fathers day!
24.01.2022 Morning everyone, the current civil works have blocked Wattle street at the pedestrian crossing - if you usually enter from that direction coming down from the shops, you will need to enter from Macarthur Avenue side to access the centre! Please be patient with each other as we have already seen increased usage of our driveway with vehicles turning around.

24.01.2022 Behaviour is another form of communication. As an adult, we can help our children learn to find whats underneath, whats actually going on. Learning at a young age will help them as they grow to regulate their emotions and know they arent bad or naughty.
24.01.2022 "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have" - Maya Angelou. Creativity is messy and we are VERY creative at Wattle! Mr A is definitely in his element and showing us all how painting should be done in the eyes of a child! ... See more

We can't thank the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbours, friends and of course, our beautiful residents of Goodwin Aged Care Services in Ainslie for joining us in our morning. A special mention must go to Steph for once again nailing it, and providing the most delicious spread for morning tea. ... #GrandfriendsDay #ChildrensWeek #CommunityConnections #senseofbelonging Children's Week Children's Week ACT

18.01.2022 This morning we enjoyed a visit from Holly Bidwell for a story telling session with each of our rooms. This was originally planned to compliment our book week celebrations, but even though Book Week has been postponed, we kept the sessions as it will always connect with our love and commitment to early literacy programs for children. Holly is a Canberra based storyteller and is an accredited member of the ACT Storytellers Guild. Thank you, Holly! The children adored their time with you!

11.01.2022 On Monday, The Mulgas sat down to listen to Kezang explaining to them that this week is National Science Week, and we will be conducting various science experiments throughout the week! Kezang also explained to the children that this year the theme is 'Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans.' Then we read a book called "Berenstain bears seashore treasure" by Stan & Jan Berenstain. The book portrayed the fun holiday that the bear family had on the beach. After rea...ding the book, we talked about the fun experience we had with our families or friends on the beach. T said, I went to the beach and dipped in cold water and it got in my mouth. It was so salty. M shared, I went to the beach with my family and collected some shells A told everyone that she built sand castles and swam at the beach and tasted salty water. After the discussion, Kezang invited the children over to the table to find out what we are doing today. Salt, water and eggs! They exclaimed and started to discuss who is cracking the eggs first. Kezang explained to them that we are not cracking the eggs but using them to do an experiment. The children were thrilled to hear that and sat down and watched curiously, as Kezang started to fill the jar with water. "If you put an egg in a jar of tap water, what do you think will happen?" Sink. L answered promptly. Kezang asked them to raise their hands if they think the egg will sink. Everyone raised their hands. To find out, L gently dropped the egg in a jar of tap water. Its sinking! everyone shouted, grinning, feeling proud that they got their predictions right. It was explained to the children that it is because the density of the egg is higher than the density of tap water, so it sinks. Now lets add salt to the water so that the water would become like seawater, what do you think will happen?" Asked Kezang. Everyone raised their hands and shouted Sink sink! We added salt and stirred until salt dissolved and T dropped the egg very gently and, low and behold, the egg floated back up to the surface! They couldnt believe their eyes because they expected it to sink like before. Kezang explained to the children when enough salt is added to the water, the density of saltwater becomes higher than the egg's, so the egg floats. The Mulgas continued to experiment with other objects like toy animals, balls, pebbles and leaves.
10.01.2022 "Strategies to support professionalism and staff continuity will assist collaborative and supportive teams to be sustained and thrive" - QA4. So what better strategy than a team social night together to further develop our team relationships and culture! There's absolutely no doubt we have all faced some of the most challenging times in our early education careers in recent months... so a painting class alongside a night of fun, food and laughter together definitely was the ...best medicine! Life with Paint Canberra #teamwork #fun #food #laughter
10.01.2022 Thank you to the lovely Kristi (one of our mums!) for coming in today as part of our children's week celebrations and running a yoga class with all the Wattle children!

08.01.2022 Kathy Walker said Childhood is filled with natural wonder and curiosity. The learning environment must reflect a classroom and outdoor space that inspired a sense of wanting to investigate, to find out and explore. I think we achieve that. #learningenironments #naturalbeauty #displayingbeauty #proudofwhatwedo
08.01.2022 With COVID-19 restrictions now easing and many new waiting list applications who were unable to come in for a centre tour, we will be opening our doors on Saturday 25 July for group tours. Bookings are ESSENTIAL. We look forward to meeting many new faces and welcoming you into our beautiful service.
06.01.2022 Another magical day spent at our annual Corin Forest snow trip. In the midst of COVID, we were super excited to be kicking off our excursions again with this one, as it is definitely a crowd favourite among children, staff and families, which was evident with the large number of parents and grandparents that joined us this morning, and even more children and families who joined us who dont usually attend on a Thursday! Children thrive when families and educators work together in partnership to support young childrens learning (EYLF, page 9) and this is so evident in opportunities such as excursions where educators and parents are able to communicate freely, respectfully and openly, and also provides opportunities for families to connect and build relationships and widen their circles.
