03.01.2022 Had the opportunity to inspect the surface of the Wattle Gully Gold Mine near Chewton. The site was opened to the public by the Bendigo Branch of the National T...rust as part of the Australian Heritage Festival. The site has great historical and technological significance as it is one of the last fully intact examples of a 1950s underground mine in Victoria including features such as an electric driven winder, poppet legs, 20 head stamper battery and a 1980s cyanide plant. Hopefully sites like these can be preserved and made available for further public viewing so the story of mining in Australia can be passed on for future generations See more
