20.01.2022 A success story to finish another busy week at WAVES Dermatology. Harry is a sweet little boy who was referred to Dr Meng and his team for severe crusting skin disease. Subsequent diagnostics confirmed Harry has an autoimmune disease called Pemphigus foliaceus. Thanks to his dedicated owners who are determined to get Harry better again, we formulated a treatment plan to get the disease under control. ... Fast forward 6months later, Harry is 100% feeling better and we have been able to slowly reduce his medications. Thankfully autoimmune diseases affecting dogs and cats are uncommon and carry a much better outcome than in humans. The key to success treatment is prompt diagnosis and starting specific treatments. #wavesdermatology #pemphigusfoliaceus #veterinarydermatologist #wavesveterinaryhospital

11.01.2022 Skin disease is literally not just skin deep! Many a times, we hear from pet owners that as their dog’s skin disease worsen, their pets becomes more withdrawn. Today, we received a kind message from Charlie’s dad, who updated us that Charlie is now constantly wanting cuddles and pats and behaving like a puppy again, ever since his skin disease has improved. ... If you have a pet with severe or chronic skin disease, we would love to help. #wavesdermatology #wavesveterinaryhospital #veterinarydermatologist

11.01.2022 Derm-mergencies: a term to describe emergency skin diseases We enjoy seeing these cases because they can potentially be life threatening and we are able to help make a difference. Fezzick was admitted to the emergency team at WAVES for a large dehiscence wound on his muzzle. Fezzick was referred internally to WAVES Dermatology the next day and we were able to debride the wound and perform biopsies. ... The results returned as a necrotising cellulitis with vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels) with a secondary bacterial infection. 2 weeks later, Fezzick is doing very well and is much happier in himself. WAVES is a multidisciplinary hospital and your pet will be able to see different specialist departments (if required!) ensuring they will be in the best care #wavesdermatology #vasculitis #veterinarydermatologist

04.01.2022 Multiple skin diseases in one dog. We often see dogs with hair loss that are not self traumatised due to itching. Sasha is a perfect example of how multiple skin diseases can be present in one dog. Sasha was referred to WAVES Dermatology for evaluation of circular areas of hairloss that has not responded to appropriate anti itch medications and antibiotics. After a thorough history and physical exam, we recommended skin biopsies for tissue testing. The result is that Sasha ...has a disease affecting his hair shaft and also a multidrug resistant bacterial infection. We started Sasha on a different antibiotic and treatment plan. 2 weeks later, Sasha is looking much better with hair regrowth. We will next see him in 6 weeks where we expect complete hair regrowth. If you have a pet with non resolving skin lesions, your vet may need to perform several tests to attain a definitive diagnosis. If required, they may refer you to a veterinary dermatologists for complicated cases. #wavesdermatology #veterinarydermatologist #wavesvethospital
