22.01.2022 Meet Benny and Alex the shih tzu twins saved by blood, this is their story as told by their Mum T-J; Back in 2015 Baron Alexander Von Ludwig Alex was diagnosed with non-regenerative haemolytic anaemia and needed an emergency blood transfusion . Then in 2016 his litter mate or twin as everyone calls them (since they look so similar) Sir Benedict Cumberbatch Benny was diagnosed with immune mediated haemolytic anaemia and had to have a blood transfusion as well.... Benny had a relapse in 2018 but of his platelets this time conforming he had Evans disease - thankfully he didnt need a transfusion and it was managed with medication. Then this Saturday the 2nd of March, Benny turned his nose up at bacon then his dinner and I knew something was very wrong - a quick check of his gums and they were white confirming my worst fear - the anaemia was back. It was off to WAVES where the staff had to try every single bag of blood on site and luckily the last bag was a match and he was able to have a life saving blood transfusion! Benny, Alex and I are eternally grateful to those special doggy blood donors and their families for what they do and if we could we would donate but we are a little small and have both now had transfusions. What we can do is encourage those with appropriate pooches to donate and help save other fur babies lives! I’ve been coming to visit my friends at WAVES with my Mum since I was a little puppy to ensure that I was super comfortable with everyone and the environment. 09.01.2022 Cyrus was a blood donor at WAVES for many years. Throughout his time as a blood donor he donated a total of 8 times! He saved 24 lives! The WAVES team are all saddened to learn of the loss of Cyrus. We are forever grateful for his long term service to the Blood Bank at WAVES.
