05.01.2022 With gyms and group fitness reopening at Waves, a lot of us are returning to our old workout routines. This is great news for fitness enthusiasts however, it is important to remember that when we take a significant time off from training, we need a strategy when we return. If we went into classes or the gym and simply picked up where we left off, then we could run into a few (very avoidable) issues. We need to remember that our body has detrained to some degree, so expectin...g to pick up exactly where we were left off is often not realistic. A useful tip for returning to training is to always assume you need more time than you think you do. A simple and sensible method is to adopt the half-the-time rule. Basically, with this rule, take half of the time it took to detrain and use that as your baseline. For example, if you took four months off from training, it is suggested that you would reach your normal fitness levels in about two months. With that in mind, you can mentally assess where you’re at and set expectations accordingly. If you need help with your training or would like more information speak to our gym team today. See more
