Used to make encaustic and cold wax medium, & widely used in cosmetics, castor wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of this bean from the Ricinus communis plant. 09.01.2022 One of my first posts and very relevant especially to beginners. The effect of diluting encaustic paint - you might want to consider the transparency value of a pigment (it's always marked on the source of your colour whether a dry pigment jar or commercial ready-made encaustic paint block). This pic shows the result of applying 4 layers of diluted paint (exact same concentrations of medium to paint) using an Opaque red on the left (cadmium red) and a transparent red on the right (naphthol red). Important to think about when trying to achieve a more solid or transparent look in your painting.
