25.01.2022 We are now raising funds to reach out to most vulnerable affected by the pandemic, particularly First Nations people suffering from financial distress, trauma, isolation, homelessness, domestic violence, etc., and offer a Funded Program of Weaving Circles to individuals and organisations so they can be included in the ‘Tapestry of Connection’. https://australianculturalfund.org.au//wayapawarr-watnand/ #wayapawarr #weavingyarningconnecting #aboriginal #inthistogether #meetingplace #myarttime #designomaddiaries #notthesurfcoastartstrail #bronwynrazem #mirrnongminnie #vickicouzens #covidart #melbournelockdown #globalartprojects #nobodyleftbehind #onlineartevent #melbmoment @cityofmelbourne @whatsonmelb @surfcoastshire

22.01.2022 We have had some very generous people donating nearly $500 through our Pay it Forward system. Thank you!! Donations support our Funded Program to ensure anyone can join our Weaving Circles. What a lovely way to give back in these tough times. Please get in touch if you or someone you know, would benefit from joining our Weaving Circles and can do with a free ticket for this Tuesday 11am.
20.01.2022 A great way to learn about Australia’s First Nation cultures as well as one of the ancient handicrafts of the world. I enjoyed listening to all the weavers shar...e their stories and knowledge- it was nice to feel connected with people in a time of isolation. Here’s my rainbow meeting place. See more
17.01.2022 The reason why we weave circles, is because they symbolise a 'Meeting Place'. Phase 1 of our project iswhilst we find ourselves in isolation/lockdownfor everyone to exhibit these gorgeous artworks in public spaces to spark curiosity, invoke inspiration and foster connection.
15.01.2022 Reflecting on the past month’s online Weaving Circles, two things really stood out as the narratives woven through our project: 1. First Nations women’s passion to connect through the project and represent their Country/mob/family in the ‘Tapestry of Connection’ 2. Non-Indigenous women’s acknowledgement of which Aboriginal Country they live on and their passion to connect with Indigenous culture.
13.01.2022 We are super excited Koorie Heritage Trust are presenting the first of a series of special edition Wayapawarr Yarning Circles with Aunty Bronwyn and special guest Kuku Yalanji artist Merindi Schrieber (Far North Queensland) who will be showcasing the diversity of Indigenous weaving across the continent through sharing their art, stories and song with each other and an audience. Listen in and observe the exchange between aunty Bronwyn and Merindi, and take the opportunity to ask the artists/weavers questions. This is a free event. 11.01.2022 #Repost @gracepundyk with @make_repost Placemaking. I’ve been doing a lot of it the past 6 weeks as I slowly transition into a new home and life. While making my nest indoors has definitely been key, so, too, has making friends with my neighbourhood: becoming familiar with the sounds, sights and smells of the birds, trees, plants, river, trains, port, buildings and beyond - all those things that shape an environment, whether we see them or not. I’d always thought the pink...-berried pepper trees that grow so prolifically here along the river were endemic to southern Australia but they’re actually native to South America. (As is, btw, the beautiful purple flowering jacaranda.) The pepper tree, or Schinus molle, has a rich history that includes shamanic rituals and Incan alcohol. But its journey in Australia is no less interesting, spreading its seed via river trade and then rail. This would explain its abundance in this area with its ongoing history of river and rail traffic both. There are a couple of these trees that grow next to where I live. They share a hillside overlooking the river with some old casuarinas, and BL (before lockdown) it was a delight to sit beneath them, especially in the wind when the she-oaks whisper loudly their secrets and the pepper trees’ long flowing branches dance gently above. They’ve also been generous in letting me take some of their branches now and again, to bring them indoors, and weave and twist them into a different kind of growth - one that allows for new stories to be remembered and shared, even during this time of isolation and separation. And for this I am grateful. #peppertree #schinusmolle #weaving #weavingstories #wayapawarr #connection #gratitude #river #nest @wayapawarr
10.01.2022 Listen to aunty Bronwyn’s story of how the project pulled her out of the doldrums https://soundcloud.com//how-aunty-bronwyns-weaving-is-help #standingstrongtogether #3knd #wayapawarr #weavingyarningconnecting #aboriginal #inthistogether #meetingplace #myarttime #designomaddiaries #notthesurfcoastartstrail #bronwynrazem #mirrnongminnie #vickicouzens #covidart #melbournelockdown #globalartprojects #nobodyleftbehind #onlineartevent #melbmoment @cityofmelbourne @whatsonmelb @surfcoastshire
09.01.2022 Wayapawarr Watnanda Marangee is the COVID-19 antidote, representing Resilience, Empowerment and Transformation. Resilience because the ancient knowledge that is embodied in traditional weaving connects us to Spirit and the Ancestors, and gives us the strength to find positive ways forward; Empowerment because the process of contributing to a community artwork provides for interpersonal connection, confidence and control over our own lives; Transformation because we will rebirth into our new selves in a new and better world we have humbly contributed to with our own positive actions and intentions.
08.01.2022 Received a lovely note of appreciation: Hello beautiful new friends! I so enjoyed the session as did all my friends who attended various sessions. It was really well organised and delivered and I commend you all, really well done. It has helped me with my wellbeing in general and I feel really proud as an Aboriginal woman to have finally learnt to weave. Thank you Aunty Bronwyn. Zena x
06.01.2022 Thank you Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development for supporting our project and sharing with your networks. Now, more than ever with the new COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, do we need to make people feel we are all connected beyond the physical. Weaving so beautifully, stitches us together like family. Hope you'll join us for one of the August online Weaving Circles!
04.01.2022 As new restrictions have come into place and people are faced with new and ongoing challenges, we find it incredibly important to reach out to the most vulnerable and affected by the pandemic. Please support and share our fundraising campaign far & wide! https://australianculturalfund.org.au//wayapawarr-watnand/
01.01.2022 We are slowly building our digital 'Tapestry of Connection' made up of everyone's woven 'Meeting Places' people share to our facebook page and via #wayapawarr. The final goal of our project is to physically stitch these all together when the pandemic is over to remember those we've lost and the new connections we've made.
