17.01.2022 A fabulous way to grow your own fresh vegetables and reduce waste at the same time. This would work fabulously for those who don't have the ability to have a vegetable patch or like us live on a boat
16.01.2022 What happens when hormones are out of whack? Many common health concerns today are connected to hormonal imbalance. 13.01.2022 We are filled with delight to introduce our little Huon Jack Hoult into the world. Born on the 2nd of May at 2.45 am, he left the comfort of my womb and entered the world calmly via a water birth. He is doing well and now we are taking the time to rest, bond, nourish and nest. Learn how to navigate parenthood. As Huon is a little winter babe we are so lucky to have our supportive parents who we are staying between their homes, as our floating home Roam is a bit cold to nurtu...re a newborn in winter. My number one supporter and loving husband is adapting to Fatherhood like an absolute natural and caring for both Huon and I in these early days postpartum. Giving this little fella all my love, and devotion as well as keeping the three of us warm, healthy, happy and nourished with healing foods is my primary focus right now. I will be taking some time to just be a Mum for a while but will be back online and reachable at Wayfinderhealth as soon as we are ready. Xxx Liss

11.01.2022 Blueberry and banana muffins. We all get busy and sometimes you just need something you can grab and go. I hear this from clients when it comes to meal planning, particularly with breakfast. This is why breakfast cereals are such a common household staple breakfast in Australia - quick oats, up and go, wheat Bix, special K, take away coffee and muffin on the way to work.... The above quick breakfast options may be quick and easy but are often highly processed, low in nutrient value and have added sugars, preservatives and other additives to give the right consistency, flavour and shelf life. Not an ideal way to start your day. If you want a quick grab and go, nutrient rich healthy alternative also a winner with the kids give these delicious muffins go. I enjoy them warmed up with a big dollop of kefir yoghurt or coconut yoghurt for a dairy free option, topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Recipe in comments. Gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free. High in fibre.
09.01.2022 Gut health is a particular area of interest for me and I believe a big part of the picture when it comes to having great good health. It plays a major role in immunity, absorption of important nutrients, mood and serotonin production, inflammation and auto immune disorders and so much more. It is so beneficial to learn how your gut flora can impact your health. Did you know that metagenomic testing of your microbiome can help guide your food choices in order to grow your goo...d gut Bugs and eliminate the bad guys. 09.01.2022 what do we mean by food as medicine Real food roots: Almost 2500 years ago Hippocrates said Leave your drugs in the chemist's pot if you can heal the patient with food." For centuries people have been using food to relieve symptoms, treat and prevent disease and most importantly to bring people together, celebrate and enjoy. Long before doctors and medications became a treatment strategy, healers and tribal elders would seek out available herbs and plant foods to feed to th...eir community to promote good health, prevent and treat illness. Modern research validates foods healing ability: Now we are in an era where research can validate the healing power of food. We know that nutrient deficiencies as well as excess consumption of processed foods are drivers of illness, inflammation and chronic disease. Food is so powerful that the food and lifestyle choices your mother made before you were even conceived has an affect on your health outcomes, predisposition and chronic disease risk. Real food foundations: 1.Choose non starchy vegetables: Load your plate with predominantly vegetables, vegetables of many colours eat the rainbow and lower in carbohydrate to keep your glucose levels stable. 2. Include healthy fats: Saturated and monounsaturated fats are NOT bad for you. Fat will make you fat ? WRONG! Good fat will keep you feeling satisfied, help you burn stored fat promote healthy hormones and reduce inflammation. 3. Quality proteins Remember quality over quantity, especially when it comes to animal protein. Knowing weather animal proteins are grass fed, pasture raised, free range and hormone free makes a big difference to the quality of the protein, to the affects on both our health and that of the environment. 4. Wholefood carbohydrates Vegetables higher in starch and carbohydrate load, fruits such as apples, bananas and oranges, starchy vegetables, root vegetables like sweet potato, potato and beetroot, gluten free grains such as rice, quinoa and buckwheat. These higher carbohydrate containing foods are best consumed less frequently and in smaller amounts than the other food groups. 5. Buy local and in season where possible Buying your produce locally, directly from the farmer or even better growing it yourself has many benefits. Not only do you know where your food has come from, you can speak with the producer and ask what farming practices they use, the they use sprays and are the animals grain or grass fed etc. Would a real food guidance to improve your health and heal/ prevent disease ? Through food movement and lifestyle choices you can treat conditions such as obesity, type two diabetes and endocrine disorders, hormonal disfunctions such as PCOS, Endometriosis, skin conditions, IBS and improve gut health and so much more!
