24.01.2022 the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has published a report into buy now pay later schemes, which they found particularly hit younger people. The research shows people "who use buy now, pay later arrangements are experiencing financial hardship, such as cutting back on or going without essentials for example meals or taking out additional loans, in order to make their buy now, pay later payments on time".
20.01.2022 "Sometimes its hard to know when youre on a slippery slope. A few one time exceptions become habits. This happened to my family. My husband developed a tumour on his bladder. We were told it was incurable, only surgeries. I became the sole breadwinner."
17.01.2022 "There is still a fair way to go. I am not jumping over fences with enthusiasm or anything like that but my optimism is certainly rising." Way Forward has been supporting Dave through financial hardship. Here, he shares his story. #debtrecovery #debtfreejourney

15.01.2022 The repayment plan Way Forward negotiated on Liz's behalf has given her the space to ‘do life’ again. Taking professional financial guidance gave her the confidence to improve her situation, and recommends people who have experiencing that same, should reach out for assistance. People think it is health and other things, but financial professional help is real. It's the first one people should go for it to resolve the other problems."... https://youtu.be/Ndib8TNciHc
12.01.2022 "I had so many sleepless nights and it was really stressing me out. I was really down. Now I know exactly where my money's going. It's manageable for me now and it just it just makes me feel happy and relieved. I just feel like I'm in a much better position and just enjoying life again. I'm just happy here. Just be here. It's a big relief."
11.01.2022 Way Forwards CEO David Berry spoke with ABCs Background Briefing about the impact of COVID on household debt. ""The stimulus and the moratoriums offered by banks are hiding a looming monster thats building... as people start to return to work, theyre going to realise the situation that theyre in and theyre going to want to find a way out of it." #covid19impact #debtmanagement
10.01.2022 Its so important to seek assistance when you are in financial stress. Just ask Kristan, who says shes not only doing better financially but her mental health is back on track too. She spoke with us as part of our joint #MoneyonYourMind campaign with Beyond Blue.
06.01.2022 People often feel powerless when theyre speaking to their lenders. But the important thing is for people to realise they do have rights and lenders have responsibilities in how they deal with people. There are options available for people struggling with debt including hardship arrangements, and support programs. But Katherine Temple from the Consumer Action Law Centre says the first step one that can be really tough is asking for help.
05.01.2022 For Hani and her husband, the accumulating cost of building their first home became too much to repay: We want to pay back our debts but we want to make it affordable...Way Forward put together a plan. I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
05.01.2022 "Australias booming buy-now-pay-later industry is becoming a growing problem for financial counsellors, who warn the sectors hardship provisions arent up to scratch. Financial Counselling Australias bi-annual Rank the Banks report found buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) providers are among the most difficult financial institutions to deal with. The report gives each financial institution a score out of 10 (with 1 being the lowest) based on the experience of surveyed financial counsellors."
02.01.2022 There is such a high correlation between financial stress and mental wellbeing. Always remember, lots of people regret delaying getting help in hindsight. Talking to someone now could be the catalyst to a brighter day tomorrow. #itsoktoaskforhelp
01.01.2022 How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted your finances? A report by the Consumer Policy Research Centre published in June 2020 shows that as a result of unemployment or a drop in work hours and income people are borrowing, using credit and buy-now-pay later and dipping into savings or super to pay their bills. The full report can be found here: https://cprc.org.au//consumers-and-covid-19-from-crisis-t/
