25.01.2022 Happy World Environment Day! Here at Waylen Bay we live in a beautiful part of the world and are lucky enough to be able to enjoy it whenever we like. As a crew we put in the effort every year to look after our environment within a crew, group, and state level (even an international level for a few of our crew over in New Zealand). On the weekend we went for a leisurely kayak on the Swan River to make up for a long weekend without a state event for the first time in a while. There's nothing better than getting out in the environment, even in winter (although Perth seems to think that winter still means sunny days). Protect the environment, and appreciate it while it's still alright

20.01.2022 Over the weekend Waylen Bay had 12 of its members attend Gravelmoot, WA Rovers service camp at MAC - Manjedal Activity Centre. We spent the weekend doing various projects to help fix up WA's major scout camp, and take various photos for our upcoming mixtapes . We had members chainsawing up trees, building structural shelters, and ramming some earth and everyone's favourite rotunda. Work hard, play hard. And everyone played in responsible fashion because we had to be up early the next day for work. We played some fun games, sang some family-friendly songs, and stayed hydrated. Well done to the crew for showing up and putting in the hard yards to do the work the Scouts WA budget doesn't cover

19.01.2022 We had a great time over the weekend at Mission Impossible 2019 - Game On in the game themed (hopefully annual) orienteering challenge with members from all over WA Rovers and Venturer Scouts WA. Although the rain and cold tried to dampen our spirits, and amazing time was had by all participants hiking though the WA bush. Big thankyous must go to Harrison Toms for being activities coordinator for the weekend and Tahlia Batters for being head of PR. Waylen Bay had a lit time ...on their base 'Get Lit with Waylen Bay' where participants had to light a fire using only a flint, and boil water over their fire in a paper bag. We also had Jack helping out on the Waylen Bay Fellowship base 'Gross Malpractice' (along with Raynor from 3rd Kalamunda District Rover Crew) where teams were challenged to perform a heart transplant using extendable claws. Names have been forwarded to the relevant medical authorities to prevent them from ever being allowed into surgery school. Also big congratulations to former Waylen Bay rovers Tom and Courtney for winning the entire event (again) with their dream team from Mundaring rovers/venturers.

19.01.2022 Not sure if hi vis or high tea...

19.01.2022 On Tuesday we held a Guiness World Record night where we went about making and breaking our own Waylen Bay Rover Crew records. We had our knowledge tested on past world records aswell as various challenges to see who was the best in our crew. Challenges such as button counting, monkey racing, and tyre flipping kept us busy while our tallest and shortest crew members in the world were also crowned (Scott relinquished his tallest rover title to Rupert by not being present ). In another secret challenge apparently going on, Quiana's double denim outfit was upstaged when Rupert rocked up in never-before-seen triple denim ensemble.

18.01.2022 Waylen Bay (plus a cheeky fellowship and chief commish appearance) enjoyed a great night at the Rockabilly Rover Ball a few weeks ago. With every leather jacket and white shirt in Perth sold out, we descended on North Perth town hall for a night of groovy dancing and reasonably priced drinks. Shout outs to Ethan and Gina for winning Beau and Belle of the ball (or was that Ethan and Rupert?) and to 3rd Kalamunda District Rover Crew for running a swinging event. While all the boys had to do was slap on a pair of jeans and a white shirt, the girls all put in alot more effort and looked lovely as a result. Despite the bar closing an hour early, spirits were not dampened as all the girls reported they were just happy to be able to take their shoes off at last

17.01.2022 Yesterday 2 of our crew members and 2 or our fellowship travelled all the way to England to celebrate former crew member Kieran Housley's wedding. For our younger crew members who would not know Kieran, he was our former crew leader, WA rover of the year, and all round great guy (and young enough to still be in rovers should he move back). Kieran was one of our best leaders before he challenged himself with a move across the world to a country with much worse weather. Everyone from Waylen Bay wishes the happy couple a long and happy marriage, and all the best for the years ahead (because we didn't spend all this money for this not to work out ) #TheCrewGoesInternationalAgain

15.01.2022 Whats that? We had another inter-crew night with Peel District Rover Crew without first consulting ourselves or them? On Tuesday we headed to Glowing Rooms Australia for some mini golf, and that's not our cameras messing up, that's how it looks inside! Glow in the dark balls, clubs, and courses was a great way to get super frustrated at putting small balls into small holes (and it's byo). And wouldn't you know it, our favourite crew from the deep south had the same idea as us... and came along to join the fun. The search continues for the mole leaking our semester program to Peel

13.01.2022 This weekend we helped out at NightHawk! Every year Waylen Bay runs home base checking in and out teams of scouts from all over WA as they orienteer overnight through the bush. Great work from our leaders Harrison and Emer for sorting everything out and organising the scoring and maps and what seems like half of the whole competition! As we sat in our tent throughout all hours of the night rugged up in as many layers as possible and out gas heater, we sent scouts off wearing ...just a hoody and with a couple of compasses as temperatures dropped to single digits. Surprisingly we fielded alot of calls from bases requesting pickups for scouts who "Just wanted to come home"... Surviving on a diet of garlic bread, party pies, and tim tams; we managed with just a few hours of sleep each (probably more than most of the scouts to be fair) and didn't kill each other. Another successful branch event run again by everyone involved! (Faces in the picture I feel are a pretty accurate representation of us at 10am the next day)

09.01.2022 Last month 4 Waylen Bay rovers ventured across the ditch to attend Once Upon A Moot, the 77th annual New Zealand Rover Moot. Joined by an incredible 7 WA rovers; Jack, Stephen, Sabrina, and Nikki descended on Brookfield Outdoor Education Centre to repay the kiwis for sending thousands of immigrants our way every year. Despite being over Easter, we awoke early on the Friday morning to participate in sub-arctic conditions in the annual cross country race. Waylen Bay's own crew ...daddy, Jack defended his title form the year before to remain the 'fastest rover in New Zealand'. Despite the strenuous physical activity, everyone managed to finish the race colder than we started and give ourselves a nice lingering hypothermic cough to last us the rest of the camp. But we didn't stop there because after that we had a day of service helping around the camp and the local community. With the sun out and no a cloud in the sky, we eventually warmed up around midday and created a community social area for families in Wainuiomata. Saturday rolled around which meant off-site activities! Waylen Bay went on a number of activities including hiking, pub crawling, and seeing the sites of various Lord of the Rings filming locations around Wellington, New Zealand. Before coming back for another late night of beverage appreciation, friend making, and Cotton Eyed Joe dancing. Sunday delivered to us the only bad bit of weather this notoriously rainy country could muster for us. The Shooting Trophy had to be restructured to be undercover but it didn't stop the hundreds of rovers in attendance from competing in small challenges in order to win the coveted title at the end of the moot. it was NZ crew vs NZ crew with the Aussies making up the numbers in the smaller crews or being put into all-Aussie teams. No surprise an all-NZ team won with the typically lazy and unenthusiastic Aussies never standing a chance. Monday was the last day and given the rain the previous morning, the Tug of War had been moved to this morning. And wouldn't you know it Waylen Bay edged out every other NZ crew there to win the mixed-team event! Helped by Georgie from Victoria who was filling in for Nikki after she twisted her ankle, we showed there was truth to our motto of 'the crew that pulls together stays together'. Stephen was the crews top puller with Jack close behind and managed to get his team over the line on this morning. Everyone absolutely loved NZmoot and we highly recommend it to any rover wanting to do something fun and exciting out of WA. Rovers New Zealand provided most wholesome, fun experience one can have in Rovers and a big thankyou to the Moot Organising Committee for running a great camp. We'll see you again next year, watch out ;)

05.01.2022 On Tuesday we came together for a night of Cutthroat Kitchen themed cooking challenges. Each team had $20 to spend to cook an entree, main, and dessert to be judged by Waylen Bay's own Crew Daddy. The twist was during the night there would be 'sabotages' delivered upon each team unless they won the previous challenge so they could either stay immune or choose another team to suffer another sabotage for that round. sabotages included: swapping food baskets between teams before... the first course, having the team members joined together to cook the main course, swapping cooking equipment halfway through, and the use of only one hand to prepare the desert. There was trouble before the competition even began with Ethan almost getting kicked out of Woolies twice for too many shenanigans, near civil war as everyone tried to steal each others ingredients and power supply, and an annoying respite when the mystery unlabelled can given to each team halfway through the main course round ended up being the perfect ingredient for each team to finish off their meal. In the end Quiana, Mitch, Sabrina, and Matt took out the night, winning the grand prize of $0.75 (or the change from each teams original $20 budget).

04.01.2022 We had a car work day today, getting ready for Badgi Bash 2019 also being run by members of our crew. With 2 cars getting up and ready to race and another on the way, we should make the minimum number of participants for the event to run just from our crew. After picking up a nice Ford Courier from Mathew Cane, we decided the easiest way to cover up all the rust was to just make the whole car look rusty. With the event being Cars themed this year, the perfect decoration for the ute was to look like Mater ('Ute R Us' version 2 was unfortunately not voted for). A great BBQ put on by Quiana and Mitch and smokos were enjoyed by some for longer than others...

02.01.2022 Congratulations to our very own Tahlia Batters who is being awarded the Special Service Award and the Ian Jennings Rover Service Award at the Adult Recognition Awards later this year. The Rover Service Award is presented to recognise individual’s outstanding contribution to the Rover Section over a sustained period. Tahlia has been a great servant to Waylen Bay and WA Rovers as a whole running both the crew and WA Rovers at various stages, before taking on a regional commissioner role with Country South. Well done Tahlia, enjoy your last few months in rovers
