05.01.2022 34. ‘The White Mountain’ (The Tripods Trilogy part 1) by John Christopher - ripping and gripping late 60s YA future fiction. Will Parker lives in the rural south of England. For hundreds of years, Earth has been ruled by alien machines, the Tripods. Will is soon to turn fourteen, a point at which he becomes a man via a bizarre ritual imposed on humans by the Tripods called ‘Capping.’ Will seeks a life of freedom from subservience to these creatures and, with the help of a ‘Vagrant’, plans his escape to the White Mountains.
