17.01.2022 It’s okay, not to be okay was started in 2016 by three grieving sisters who lost our brother Ben to suicide. It’s okay, not to be okay aims to bring the important conversations of mental health, suicide prevention and grief to the community. They do this by hosting events, running social media campaigns and selling merchandise. They encourage people to break stigma by wearing their message and being a part of this important conversation. All profits from the merchandise sales... gets donated annually to a charity that the girls choose to support. Recipients of their donations in the past have been Support After Suicide and Lifeline. 11.01.2022 Dissociative identity disorder used to be called multiple personality disorder. It is a rare and complex psychological condition where a person’s identity is fragmented into two or more distinct personality states called ‘alters’. The facts Estimates on the prevalence of DID vary widely. Studies show it can affect anything from 0.01% to 15% of people. It is more common in areas that have experience large-scale trauma such as war or natural disasters.... DID is more commonly diagnosed in women than men. The majority of people with DID have experienced severe trauma in childhood, and dissociate as a way of coping with a situation that is too violent or traumatic for their conscious self to handle. DID was called multiple personality disorder until 1994, when the name was changed to reflect a better understanding of the condition. DID is likely caused by many factors, but many people with DID have experienced severe physical, verbal or sexual abuse during childhood, usually before the age of nine. The stress of war or natural disasters also can bring on dissociative disorders. A child who learns to dissociate in order to endure a traumatic experience may use this coping mechanism in response to stressful situations throughout life. . . #DID #dissociative #identity #disorder #ndis #ndisprovider #participants #mindfullness #mentalhealth #mentalillness #verbal #childhood #welisten #wecare

You might feel out of control, like there’s a disconnect between your mind and body. Other ways people experience anxiety include nightmares, panic attacks, and painful thoughts or memories that you can’t control. You may have a general feeling of fear and worry, or you may fear a specific place or event. Symptoms of general anxiety include: increased heart rate rapid breathing restlessness trouble concentrating difficulty falling asleep Your anxiety symptoms might be totally different from someone else’s. 03.01.2022 Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe a disability that may arise from a mental health issue. (NDIS) Psychosocial disability is not about a diagnosis, it is about the functional impact and barriers which may be faced by someone living with a mental health condition. A psychosocial disability arises when someone with a mental health condition interacts with a social environment that presents barriers to their equality with others. Psychosocial disability may res...trict a person’s ability to: be in certain types of environments concentrate have enough stamina to complete tasks cope with time pressures and multiple tasks interact with others understand constructive feedback manage stress. Someone with a psychosocial disability may require support to overcome the barriers to social inclusion they face. Past experiences of trauma are common for people with psychosocial disability. 01.01.2022 In its simplest form, bipolar depression is defined as an imbalance in brain chemistry causing extreme emotional highs and lows in a person. This disorder is a chronic, life long illness and untreated makes it difficult for the patient to lead a 'normal' life. Everyday tasks such as going to work, to school and sustaining relationships (personal and professional) can become challenging. While there is no known cure for this illness, proper medication along with psychotherapy ...can effectively manage the symptoms. It is estimated that approximately 1.3% of Australians live with a form of bipolar disorder. One in 50 adult Australians experience bipolar disorder each year. Bipolar I disorder People with bipolar I disorder typically experience: one or more manic episodes (extreme highs) lasting at least one week, as well as depressive episodes, and psychotic episodes. With bipolar I disorder, episodes of mania are severe enough to interfere with day-to-day life. Bipolar II disorder People with bipolar II disorder typically experience both hypomanic and depressive episodes. A person with hypomania will experience similar symptoms to someone with mania, but less intensely. Hypomania associated with bipolar II lasts only a few hours or days (rather than weeks of mania, as with bipolar I). Although bipolar II disorder has less severe symptoms than bipolar I disorder, it can be chronic (ongoing). Depressive symptoms associated with bipolar II disorder are often more frequent and longer-lasting. . . #bipolar #bipolardisorder #disorder #ndis #ndisprovider #participants #mentalhealth #mentalillness #episode #depressive #psychotic

01.01.2022 A skill is the ability to perform an action with determined results often within a given amount of time, energy, or both. Skills can often be divided into domain-general and domain-specific skills. 01.01.2022 Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages in the communication process. Listening is key to all effective communication. Without the ability to listen effectively, messages are easily misunderstood. As a result, communication breaks down and the sender of the message can easily become frustrated or irritated. If there is one communication skill you should aim to master, then listening it is. Listening means paying attention not only to the story, b...ut how it is told, the use of language and voice, and how the other person uses his or her body. In other words, it means being aware of both verbal and non-verbal messages. Your ability to listen effectively depends on the degree to which you perceive and understand these messages. Listening is not a passive process. In fact, the listener can, and should, be at least as engaged in the process as the speaker. The phrase ‘active listening’ is used to describe this process of being fully involved. . . . #listen #listening #verbal #ihearyou #communication #activelistening #active #ndis #ndisprovider #participants See more

01.01.2022 More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25. And yet, many traditional services aren’t equipped to address the unique barriers that young people face to accessing mental health support. headspace began in 2006 to address this critical gap, by providing tailored and holistic mental health support to 12 - 25 year olds. With a focus on early intervention, they work with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives to help ...get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future. At the heart of their services is ensuring they meet the evolving and unique needs of young people and those who support them. Therefore, young people are at the centre of everything they do and they play an active role in designing, developing and evaluating our programs. Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in 124 communities across Australia, their online and phone counselling services, their vocational services, and their presence in schools. headspace can help young people with mental health, physical health (including sexual health) alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support. . . @headspace_aus #ndis #ndisprovider #participants #headspace #community #youth #life #australianyouth #help #nonforprofit See more
