24.01.2022 Nathan Dickson is our focus for Throwback Thursday this week. His advice to students; Take in as much as you can, you never know what will help you in the future. Thank you for your time Nathan and best of luck in your current endeavors. CLASS OF (YOUR FINAL YEAR): 2010 FAVOURITE MEMORIES OF YOUR SCHOOL DAYS? Making it to the state final with our year 8 basketball team with our fearless leader Mr Jenkins (aka Jenko, the Buffalo). ... YOUR FAVOURITE TEACHER/S AND WHY? Thommo, he just lived to help us understand Physics. Jan O’Connell, really opened our eyes to the world (and to the shocks of an occasional flying duster). AN OVERVIEW OF YOUR STUDY/CAREER PATH. I finished a bachelor of Science and Laws (hons) at Monash while living at Mannix College. Since then I have worked in PwC’s corporate tax team for 2.5 years before taking a tax / governance role with Cotton On in Geelong. WHAT YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE DOING NOW? PwC has great people working at the top of their field, and seems keen to push ahead on social issues. I am proud to be a part of their team. THE BEST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE TO CURRENT STUDENTS? Make personal as well as professional / academic goals. Also, absorb as much information as you can (reading, listening watching) about whatever you happen to be interested in.

21.01.2022 Bailey Vickers Alumni Class of 2014 knows that by working hard and asking for help can really help you achieve your goals .. CLASS OF (YOUR FINAL YEAR): 2014 FAVOURITE MEMORIES OF YOUR SCHOOL DAYS? I enjoyed pretty much all of my time at Warrnambool College, whether what was spending time with friends at lunchtime having a hit of tennis/kicking the soccer ball or studying in my free periods as I really enjoyed the subjects I was doing during VCE. Having those friendships th...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Daniel Fary is our Throwback Thursday subject to end October. Daniel, a 2010 graduate and an avid Tennis player throughout high school, enjoyed writing and took this skill and combined it with tertiary study to forge a successful career in Melbourne. Thanks Daniel for your time and best of luck for your team in the future. CLASS OF (YOUR FINAL YEAR): 2010 FAVOURITE MEMORIES OF YOUR SCHOOL DAYS?... That’s a hard one, too many to name! I personally really enjoyed school. I think year 12 was my favourite year as it was the most challenging but also the most rewarding. YOUR FAVOURITE TEACHER/S AND WHY? I think they were all great. Once you realise they’re genuinely here to help, then you become quite grateful. AN OVERVIEW OF YOUR STUDY/CAREER PATH. I graduated in 2010 and took a break from study to complete a gap year with the Warrnambool City Council in Rates and Property. I moved to Melbourne in 2012 to study Business (Marketing). Towards the end of my degree I got a part time job as a personal banker and graduated from university in 2014. I was then offered a full time position with Bank of Melbourne which I stayed in until 2016. After leaving the bank, I returned to La Trobe to work in a hybrid sales/marketing role. I moved into more of a marketing role in 2017 and have been there ever since. JOB OR COURSE ARE YOU DOING NOW? Marketing, Sales and Student Recruitment Advisor. I oversee a team of 3 and organise and coordinate events, communications, collateral, and projects to encourage students to undertake study at La Trobe. WHAT YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE DOING NOW? I love working with a team of people. Because we are all so different not one day is the same. I also love writing and have always preferred English over maths, and my current role allows me to practice those skills every day. THE BEST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE TO CURRENT STUDENTS? Follow what you enjoy doing and play to your strengths. Also try not to be in a rush you have the rest of your life to figure things out.

19.01.2022 Throwback Thursday is back for 2020! Our first Alumni for 2020 is...... Dr Karen Forsyth (nee McKenzie) Alumni of the Class of 1992 Karen has fond memories of her years here at Warrnambool College Favourite memories; when I look back on my school years I think of Year 12. It was a fabulous, fun year socially both at school and outside of it. The friends I had then I still treasure today. Over the years I was fortunate enough to represent the school in basketball and we had ...some great trips away, winning the state final one year. I actually really enjoyed school. My favourite subjects were Chemistry and Maths. I am a Chiropractor. I went to RMIT to study in 1993 and completed a 5 year double Bachelor degree, Bachelor of Applied Science (Clin) Bachelor of Chiropractic Science. In 2015 I began a Masters of Chiropractic Science Paediatrics through McTimonney College in the UK, which I completed in 2018 with Distinction. I have worked in private practice in Warrnambool since December 1997. I love my job and really enjoy going to work every day. I see a variety of patients’ with their ages ranging from a few days old to those in their 90’s. All have different health complaints; however, the aim is always to help that person achieve their health goals and restore neural integrity through correct bio mechanical alignment. The best advice; study the subjects you enjoy as it will lead you to a career you enjoy. I didn’t choose to study Chiropractic until 1/2 way through year 12. The school years are fun, enjoy them but work hard and do your best. Of course while having a great social life and enjoy hanging out with your friends every day! See more

12.01.2022 Nathan Turner Alumni Class of 2010 wasn’t keen on going to University, he really wasn’t sure what he wanted to do once he finished year 12 here at Warrnambool College, since, he has worked, travelled and well I’ll let him tell you.. - Favourite memories of your school days... I have plenty of fond memories, but if I would have to choose it would be the school swimming trips. Swimming in the same relay team with Jordan Logan, Stephan Brodie and Cam McNeil from year 8 to year ...12, going down to Melbourne for a couple of meets and coming away with some state medals was always fun. Before our year 12 country schools relay, we decided it was a good idea to pump each other up by slapping each other as hard as we could on our backs. We must’ve psyched everyone out because we won that race by a long way! - Favourite teachers... I had a lot of fantastic teacher’s over the years like Mr Grieves for woodwork, Mr Dowie for year 7 PE and form group to name a couple. But Ms Stacey was a teacher that really connected with me. After almost failing year 11 because of illness and mental health issues, I had Ms. Stacey for year 12 English. She gave me the drive and passion for learning again, and ended up doing better than I ever hoped for in VCE. - Overview of career path/study... After completing year 12 and without interest in Uni. Working as a swimming teacher, I did a year at TAFE studying cert IV in Hospitality and Events, following this I worked at multiple cafes and finally ended up at Liquorland where I have now worked at for over 7 years. In 2014, I bit the bullet and enrolled myself in bachelor of education as a mature-aged student at Deakin Uni Warrnambool. - Job or study now... I have since completed my course last year after 6 years. It took longer as I had travelled to Europe a couple of times. The first time being for a placement in Switzerland where I taught Swiss History for a month and began learning German. I am happy to say that now I am currently working as a grade 1 teacher in a Point Cook school and recently graduated, at the start of the year I left my job at Liquorland after over 7 years of employment. - What you most enjoy about what you’re doing now... The work-study balance was difficult but after my final placement, I've realised that I love the classroom environment and working with students and other teachers to be incredibly rewarding. I was lucky to have a great class and school so going to school didn’t feel like work, so I think I have found my passion in life. I have a hilariously fun class and have an extremely supportive team of teachers that have made my transition smooth. - The best advice you could give to current students... Don’t expect to know what you want to do straight away. I found starting Uni later I had gained valuable employment and life experiences that helped me immensely through my course. That’s not to say that if you have the perfect opportunity, take it with both hands. See more

08.01.2022 On Tuesday our year 10 Sports Science class heard from 2018 alum Wren Wood. Wren told the class how she is studying Sports and Exercise and Sport Science at Latrobe University, Wren has also secured a highly sought after internship with the Carlton Football Club involving Data and Analytics for all their training's, and football games. Wren had some wonderful advice for the class, she told the students that not being an elite athlete doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy sport ...as well as science, her study allows her to remain fit and gives her the strategies and tools to remain healthy and help others whilst doing so. She also said you need to be a great communicator. I’m sure many of the students today could identify with Wren and were inspired to continue with their Sport Science studies here at Warrnambool College. We look forward to staying in touch with Wren and seeing where her studies take her in the future. See more
