22.01.2022 We can be pessimistic, give up and help ensure that the worst will happen, or we can be optimistic, grasp the opportunities that surely exist and maybe help make the world a better place. - Noam Chomsky. Wild Things: A Year on the Frontline of Environmental Activism is a film about three environmental struggles - against coal in Queensland, saving the Tarkine forest in Tasmania and the student strike for climate action.... http://workersbushtelegraph.com.au//film-review-wild-thin/

20.01.2022 Capitalism isn't working. Here's an alternative In his new book, the economist imagines a future transformed by Covid-19 and sketches a daring vision of democratic socialism. ‘On 12 August, the day the news broke that the British economy had suffered its greatest slump ever, the London Stock Exchange jumped by more than 2%’. Photograph: NurPhoto/Getty Images Yanis Varoufakis When Margaret Thatcher coined Tina her 1980s dictum that There is no alternative I was incensed because, deep down, I felt she had a point: the left had neither a credible nor a desirable alternative to capitalism.... http://workersbushtelegraph.com.au/2021/01/27/another-now/

14.01.2022 Nazism (or National Socialism) is a brand of Fascism. It arose from a particular set of circumstances in Germany in the 1930s. High unemployment and low national self-esteem after a crushing defeat in World War I gave rise to Kristallnacht or the night of broken glass. This was an anti-Semitic attack that led to the holocaust based on the ridiculous notion that blond blue-eyed Germans were a super race.... http://workersbushtelegraph.com.au//29/fascism-on-the-rise/

02.01.2022 After our achievements in 2020 it's time again to consider pulling on the Big Ride jersey. Some of us have decided to enter the Tour de Brisbane being held on S...unday April 11, and are encouraging others to join with us on what should be an exciting day of riding, and an opportunity to show the Big Ride colours. There are several options to accommodate all levels of riding, from the Community Ride (free) through to the 110 km Gran Fondo ride. In between are the Piccolo (30km) and the Medio (70km). We encourage you to join. Have a look at the courses on the Tour de Brisbane website. A couple of us are planning on entering the Medio which will suit our fitness level, and accommodate e-Bikes as well. We'd love to hear from you letting us know if you're interested and what distance would suit you. Early-bird entry finishes on 31 January, and there is lots of information on the Tour de Brisbane website that will help you make up your mind. Early bird entry fees range from $219 for the Grand Fondo to $99 for the Piccolo. Please let us know your thoughts, if you are interested and what course would suit you. For the past couple of weeks we've been training on part of the course in Brisbane's South East on Sunday mornings, starting at 7am from below the cliffs at Kangaroo Point and of course you would be more than welcome to join us. [See https://goo.gl/maps/efBHitCfLZfKkXQC7 ]. Again let us know if you'd like to come along.
