24.01.2022 Arts in Health has given the ground floor of the Hospital a fresh summertime vibe with an exhibition by Evelyn Gooley and Max Dal Santo the creators behind Chromatisme Artworks. Evelyn and Max specialise in fluid art techniques, creating marbling effects by pouring fluid acrylic directly on large canvases. When creating these works, execution time can be short, so the preparation required to achieve high quality works and specific effects is painstaking and intricate.... This exhibition titled 'Summer Freedom' showcases selected works capturing their mutual love of the ocean and all things evoking the carefree days of summer - gentle ocean waves, the heady fragrance of bright blooms hanging in the air, and the freedom of long days spent with family and friends. 'Summer Freedom’ is in the Blue Heart Gallery opposite Hospital School. Learn more about our current exhibitions here: https://bit.ly/wchf-galleries #ArtsinHealth #artsymonday #WCHFoundation

19.01.2022 It was all thumbs up from Georgena Eves after she ran in this year's virtual City-Bay and raised $929.75 for the WCH Foundation! She ran from Horseshoe Bay to Encounter Bay totalling 13.3km, 1.3km more than the required City-Bay distance, an amazing feat seeing Georgena only started running in April to reduce her stress at work due to the pandemic. She was greeted by her two sons at the finish line. Thomas (on the right) was treated by the wonderful staff at the WCH after he... had a brain haemorrhage when he was a baby. #WCHFoundation #CommunityChampion Westpac City-Bay Fun Run Presented by Sunday Mail

17.01.2022 Every year more than 1200 families rely on equipment from the Home Equipment Centre to enable their children to be cared for at home rather than in the Hospital. Thanks to the support of five WCH Foundation corporate donors; the Lott by SA Lotteries, Sodexo Australia, Curing Homesickness, Coles, and the SA Power Networks Employee Foundation, the Centre has relocated to a refurbished and larger premise. Fourteen-month-old Amelia Bock is just one of the patients who requires eq...uipment from the Centre regularly. Just months after her birth, Amelia was diagnosed with central and obstructive sleep apnea, which is why she requires oxygen, and an unsafe swallow so she is fed through a feeding tube. 10.01.2022 Our Arts in Health team has recently installed new exhibitions in the Hospital, including a selection of stunning photographs by Chris Hezfeld titled 'Stillness of Motion - Location Series'. Specialising in dance photography, Chris is interested in taking dance off the stage and out of the photo studio. He experiments with photographing dancers in the real world, in their everyday clothes, giving the images the feel they would be at home in a fashion magazine. One of the fea...tured dancers, Emily Fowler, has been working with Chris on dance photography collaborations for the past 10 years. Together, we’ve developed an attuned and creative approach to creating shots from Australian beaches and cliff tops to city streets in Paris and Stockholm," Emily said. ''I always love to explore in outdoor shoots how the movement of the body can be complimentary to the landscapes and landmarks in the composition of the shot. It’s very exciting to be able to share this collection with the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and to bring some colour to the corridors!" 09.01.2022 A huge thank you to the Hope Inn Sports & Social Club for their generous donation. After over 65 years as a community club, most recently supporting Adelaide’s competitive dart players, due to COVID 19, the sad decision was made to close the doors. Final proceeds from the club were donated to the WCH Foundation so current and future generations of South Australian children and their families can benefit from their inspirational legacy. ... #WCHFoundation

02.01.2022 Today is World Prematurity Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of preterm birth. Hundreds of premature babies are cared for at the Women's and Children's Hospital every year, and in 2020 Torvi was one of them. Torvi was born in March at 26 weeks and spent the first months of her life in the neonatal nurseries. ... Kate, Torvi's mum, said now aged eight-months-old her daughter is thriving. ''She is doing an amazing job at growing. Torvi loves to entertain us with her infectious giggle. She is really happy and just began to try and roll over, and is enjoying tummy time now more than ever.'' Thanks to the support of the WCH Foundation community, we are able to support the brilliant care babies like Torvi receive in the Hospital's neonatal nurseries. This includes upgrading facilities, funding equipment and family support programs. #WCHFoundation #worldprematurityday

02.01.2022 Some very cute animals have moved into the Women's and Children's Hospital! Whilst visitor restrictions do apply at the Hospital, patients, families and staff still get to enjoy the exhibitions our Arts in Health team present to enliven the Hospital environment. 'Fluffy Tails and Wiggly Bums' by Elise Leslie-Allen certainly cheers us up with a selection of pet portraits found in the Green Heart Gallery by the café.... Elise has worked as a clinical psychologist for over 35 years. She has incorporated the presence of her pet dogs into her private psychology practice as research shows animals can assist in treatment and recovery as well as making the working day more enjoyable for everyone! "I am inspired by their unique personalities and behaviours which I try to capture in their individual portraits. My works are designed to inspire empathy and compassion for all animals in both children and adults," she said. 01.01.2022 Watch out, there is a beautiful mob of kangaroos on the ground floor of the Hospital! ‘PORTRAIT OF KANGAROO’ is an up-close and personal series of large-scale drawings of our national icon, the kangaroo, by artist Michael Chorney. Michael has always loved drawing and painting; his earliest creative memories are from when he was six-years-old drawing with his artist mother. Now, in his late 60s, Michael and his partner live in Mannum where they have care for rescued wildlife ...and where his deep passion for drawing kangaroos has developed. My quest in this series is to portray these animals as individuals, reflecting their unique personalities in an expressive form. Traditionally, kangaroos have been represented symbolically," Michael said. This exhibition is on show in the Blue Heart Gallery.
