21.01.2022 After a lifetime of involvement in his local community, Dennis Barnett has been elected by the WDEA Works Committee of Management (COM) as its new Chairperson. Based in Bendigo, Dennis has served the Committee for three years as a member and Treasurer. The appointment took place at WDEA Works’ 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 28th October when previous Chair Mary Graham stepped down from her position.... Mary has served as Chairperson since 2015, elected to the role after the retirement of long-standing CEO Mick White. Mary graciously extended her term as Chair for the past twelve months, providing stability and support for our incoming CEO Tom Scarborough. 16.01.2022 "Being the aboriginal liaison I wanted to really get involved in something that also involved my fellow team mates and what better way than to walk/run on the country that we live with the money going to a great cause. I also have a very close friend of mine who is Aboriginal and encouraged me to do this for her, which encouraged me to get others involved. Doing this run/walk with her made me feel invigorated and connected to the Gunditjmara land that we are on" said Linda who is part of WDEA Works Warrnambool. Congratulation to all WDEA Works staff members who completed the Clothing The Gap 'Connect to Country' run/walk during Nov 20-22. Pictured is Linda with Isaac and Gavin and their medals as well as Jaala with her medal.

09.01.2022 Celebrating Emma and her achievements today as part of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). A MUST Read about Emma and her recent work with the Glenelg Shire Council. IDPwD aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions. ... Emma has an intellectual disability and this year joined WDEA Works School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES) where she has been working on her goals with Alicia, her Employment Preparation and Engagement Consultant. Already she has ticked two of these goals off! Recently Emma has commenced work experience with the Aged and Disability Services team at the Glenelg Shire Council. Glenelg Shire Councils Community and Social Support Coordinator Bryce Spencer was supportive in creating an opportunity for Emma to undertake work experience with the team. Here Emma has been mentored by Melissa Craigie and given the responsibility to assist with shopping, household cleaning and social interaction with clients. Melissa said Emma has a natural ability to connect with others and is a forward thinker. Alicia has already noticed Emma’s confidence growing, within just a space of a few weeks she has gone from reserved and not making eye contact to feeling comfortable enough to sing some Elton John (one of her favourite singers) in front of Bryce & Melissa. On top of this, with Alicia’s support Emma was able to pass her Learners test and has been referred to the Glenelg Shire Council’s L2P program and Keys2Drive for driver training. Thank you to the Glenelg Shire Council for your support in helping people build their employability and life skills! Congratulations Emma, we look forward to following your progress and watch you tick off more of your goals!

Right now, I’m grateful to have a roof over my head and I’m focusing on working and living. I want to save up as much money as possible and move forward with my life - Keijo. We love this message Keijo shared with us along with his employment journey which has involved a serious and permeant motorbike injury and homeles...sness.
