21.01.2022 Ive busy using my freshly harvested willow , dogwood ,hazel, plum and other deciduous sticks and branches to create a few things for my garden and also some things to showcase basketry from the garden and for the garden at the Burra Districts Open Gardens..http://burradistrictsopengardens.weebly.com/ While all look bright and colourful now they do mellow and fade out in the garden. Here in the Adelaide Hills they last about 3 years before they return to the earth which means Im able to enjoy making new pieces each year. I find random weave and tension tray methods work well along with knotless netting last longest in the garden.

20.01.2022 Its been windy and wet the last couple of days and after looking around at some of my bigger yet to be completed projects I saw my water bottle on the bench.Instant thought I'll cover it.So here it is.So now I might be less likely to leave it behind after Nia.

20.01.2022 Garden Basketry in the Garden Another lovely playshop (its not work) in the garden exploring the techniques of rib construction by selecting a branch and using stakes to create a sculptural shape and then twining with more garden materials. A perfect day of learning, fun and relaxation topped off by a lovely shared lunch. If your group (Min 6 max 8) want to learn some basketry techniques then the details are here. https://weavingmagicnaturally.blogspot.com/p/workshops.html

16.01.2022 I have just completed harvesting the willow and dogwood. The quality is much better this year as I managed to treat the infestation of giant willow aphids sucking on the willow with a couple of pyrethrum treatments over summer.

15.01.2022 Woven Triple Moon Symbol which can be a wall hanging or used as a serving platter.frame metal, ribs willow , weavers Iris.50cmx 26cm. The triple moons symbol is believed to signify the eternal cycle of birth, life, and rebirth. Triple Moon shows different portions of the lunar cycle, with the moon in three phases waxing, full and waning. There is a crescent moon that is in a growing/waxing phase. In the center comes a circle representing the full moon, and finally, ther...e is a crescent denoting the diminishing/waning moon. Triple Moon is considered representative of all aspects of the divine feminine power intuition or psychic insight; creative energy; and wisdom & mystery. It indicates the three life stages of a woman. The waxing moon stands for the Maiden and symbolizes purity, youth, new life, beginnings, rejuvenation, excitement, enchantment, and expansion. The full moon represents the Mother and represents fulfillment, fertility, ripeness, potency, compassion, giving, caring, nurturing, protection and power. The waxing moon represents the Crone and stands for repose, maturity, wisdom, experience, knowledge, understanding, completion, death and rebirth. See more

11.01.2022 Adelaide Hills Basket Cases have been playing with gourds. Here is what I did. Yes it's in the garden my favourite place for creating basketry objects.

11.01.2022 THE FESTIVE BASKET-TREE Basket are never empty they are full of dreams, wishes, love, inspiration, sometimes frustration but mostly joy, satisfaction and pride. When stacked like this they are holding special thoughts of best joyful wishes to all and a message to Mother Nature to bring soaking rains to heal the land and its carers, all people of the land. The basket-tree is a series of 3 large vessels I made as part of Natural Elements at the Hahndorf Academy in 2017.They have been sitting in the shed ever since so it was time for a new life in the garden. The tree decorations are scarves some of which I made and when we are celebrating in the garden my Nia white belt is added to the tree. As you can see the gifts are contained within all the vessels love, dreams, joy and many more.

10.01.2022 An estimated 350 attended the opening of 'Solastalgia - an antidote' at Fabrik Arts & Heritage on Saturday night. What an amazing celebration of life and marker... of this pivotal moment in time for the Lobethal community and for life on this planet. The opening began with Allegria Ab/so/lute/ly flash mob choir and the audience encircling Melissa Hellwig's Chlorophyll mandala to sing up the country till poet Belinda Broughton shouted 'WHO who WHO!!!' What followed was a slow and achingly beautiful molecular dismantling of our 'Edges' until there were none. A visibly moved John Sandham from the Botanic Gardens responded to the exhibits and Ecologist and Cudlee Creek resident Joan Gibbs spoke of her personal experience of the fires, their impact on local ecology, restoration and a future we will not see. I was reminded of Nelson Henderson's 'The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.' On behalf of all the artists, Jesse Budel, Belinda Broughton, Liz Butler, Deb Cantrill, Louise Feneley, Gaynor Hartvigsen, Melissa Hellwig, Heidi Kenyon, Aaron Poole, Evette Sunset, Laura Wills and myself, I would like to thank Fabrik and the community for their incredible support. There were 20 helpers, locals amongst them, over the 26 days it took for Evette Sunset to harvest, collect and install 'Eye of the Storm'. The astonishing result of this epic work and the team that helped is a gift to the Lobethal community and I encourage every one to come to see it. There was an estimate of 116 matching numbers of locals, city, hills and coastal dwellers through the gallery the following day including many wide eyed children discovering the coracles, attaching their written messages, climbing a chair to view mycelium and discovering marsupial scat and luminescent scorpions below. The exhibition will run till March 15, Thursday to Sunday, 11am-4pm. 'I think one of the most profound benefits of 'Solastalgia an antidote' is that it empowers us all and draws on an intrinsic quality in humanity of wanting to help, to assist, make the world and all within it a better place. What a surprise I think it is for people to discover that there is already help from the animals, plants and fungi. Together we can truly repair, rebuild and recover. With all the gloom out there this work does energise me and I'm so grateful for this optimism.' Rose Dow

04.01.2022 Just been having fun making a broad range of things. Many for the gardens ,some smaller indoor pieces as well.I think I have the most fun with larger pieces that don't fit inside and now have gone over the top adding them to my garden. But if there are a few too many they will eventually be overtaken by plants and eventually return to the earth. It is a good idea to make a few each year as they only last around 3 years.

03.01.2022 The exhibition 'Solastalgia - an antidote' will be launched Feb 15 at 6pm in Building 21 at Fabrik, on the site of the old Onkaparinga Woolen Mill. It is shapin...g up to be a much needed space for the community to come together, to shift their gaze and tired bodies from the trauma and the rescue work, to rest, and perhaps find some welcome solace among the exhibited works during the recovery phase. Weaving sound, projection, painting, textile, workshop, and poetry performance, this multi-sensory installation is an antidote to loss, re-affirming life's interconnections, and the importance of our own health and well-being for the work that lies ahead. Your presence at the opening will begin a fresh wave of healing for the whole community and ourselves. Here is a sneak peek at a few details of the works from Aaron Poole, Deb Cantrill, Melissa Hellwig, Louise Feneley, Jo Wilmot, Liz Butler and Gaynor Hartvigsen. See more
