25.01.2022 In progress work at yankalilla - another one with peak projects, this is one were eager to get our teeth into. Will keep everyone updated on this one, as roof is just about done now; second story flooring about to go in in the pic

24.01.2022 Do your fans need a bit of tlc? Replacement or install, remote or hard wired, we can help you out. With spring about to hit, dont hold off until youre already dealing with the heat!

21.01.2022 Do you have Residual Current Devices installed in your switchboard? Easily identified by a test button on the safety switch ("T" in the picture below, but may look different depending on brand), these should be protecting light and general power circuits in your board (and in the coming year, almost everything else too). There are two types of safety switches you will find in an electrical board; RCDs and circuit breakers (or fuses if you have an older installation). In simp...le terms, circuit breakers stop your house from burning down, whereas RCDs prevent people from being electrocuted. Many boards I come across dont have all appropriate circuits covered by an RCD, with older boards not having them at all, due to either lack of technology or requirements at the time. Whilst your installation may not have needed RCDs at the time works were being done, their presence can mean the difference between life and death if anything were to go wrong. Need an RCD installed? Want to have your board checked, just to be on the safe side? Contact us today! See more

21.01.2022 So today’s theme was crystals. They take a bit more work than typical fittings, but the spectacular finish certainly helps to break up a regular workday :)

21.01.2022 Went to a job yesterday because PowerPoints weren’t working in the house. Before we even opened the board up, you could tell it was in need of an upgrade. Behind the panel we found this on two cables. Between overloading the circuits and immediately replacing the fuse wire (not letting the cables have time to cool down for a bit), the wires had severe heat damage at the rear of the fuse wire - the one below had begun to melt into another wire, and the fuse holder itself was ...beginning to melt the plastic enclosure of the device next to it. If devices are persistently tripping on your house, please get it checked out by a qualified electrician! If one of these cables hadn’t snapped due to the heat damage, this woman wasn’t far off from having a fire start in her switchboard. Sometimes these devices do trip unnecessarily, but more often than not, that inconvenience is a sign of far bigger issues. Don’t risk it! Get it checked! See more

21.01.2022 Occasionally when working as an electrician, you come across things truly terrifying. Ill start this off with a simple piece of advice; if anything trips in your switchboard, its rare that its happened for no reason. Recently Ive had a number of calls where water has gotten into a light or PowerPoint, causing RCDs to trip. Sometimes you get a faulty fitting. While inconvenient, these are still potentially dangerous issues. If youve noticed switches tripping off, at the ...very least try to take note of when and under what circumstances it occurs. Get it checked out - its not worth the risk Fortunately the owners of this house contacted me fairly early. Theyd been having to power the pool pump via extension cord for a few weeks. Trying to turn this back on resulted in losing power to the entire house. I was about to open up one of the PowerPoints when we spotted the burn marks; there had clearly been a fire. Theyd only cleared away a layer of palm fronds from this area a couple weeks before they began experiencing problems. The house is near the river in paradise, so the prime suspect is rats or other rodents having chewed into the wire. Regardless, the cable had begun to overheat, melting through over a meter of the housing conduit. Past the immediate damage, you can also see where the conduit was in contact with the corrugated iron fence. Beyond that, the last photo shows where a dripper pipe had melted around the conduit. Fortunately these guys had had a switchboard upgrade a few years ago, so the relatively new safety devices had done their job before the fire spread to the house, but they were extremely lucky that the tree beside it hadnt gone up, and in turn, the house See more

20.01.2022 Alright, weve been ridiculously busy this past month or two, so please forgive me for the sparse updates. Id thought about putting all the pics in the one post, but will split them up a bit instead, so here begins the flood This one is a home Reno weve just finished off at one tree hill alongside peak projects

19.01.2022 Sometimes people just have bad luck. Came across this one a while ago; customer rang me up, asking me to come check out why their safety device was tripping. Bad coincidence, but they had just had their meter swapped to a smart meter immediately before this happened; guy turned the power back on, and they had no PowerPoints working in their house. They wanted the guy to swap it back, because they figured there was no problem before he swapped it, he must have done something ...- its a fair logical step tbh. I attend and quickly figure out its nothing hes done; problem is with power in the front half of the house. Unplug everything, problem persists. Disassemble the circuit, find it to be between kitchen PowerPoint and the rangehood. Plug for the range is only just off the ceiling within the flue (and didnt have the backing on it) - couldnt get my head in there to look properly, so I replace the cable that has shown the problem. Now that I have more length, I can inspect the plug. Problem is here. I open it up, and find a blowfly burnt onto the active conductor within the plug, and its bridging it out to the earth pin. Its obviously flown in through the vents in the flue, gotten into the plug and fried. Wasnt sure if it had been in there frying prior to the upgrade, and just slipped into the bad spot when the power was cut, or if it just happened to get in there while the upgrade was going. All could have been avoided if the guy doing the kitchen the year beforehand had bothered to put the backing on the plug. Make sure you use competent tradesman! See more

18.01.2022 Ever had an electricity bill where you just cant figure out where all that power went? Weve just began installing these energy monitors, featuring a wireless display that shows you exactly how much power you are using. It comes with a USB so you can display the recordings on your computer, and the unit saves the data for up to 30 days. This device can quickly help you figure out exactly how much each appliance and accessory in your home costs you to run. Contact us now so we can help you save!

16.01.2022 Really this applies to all trades. A good tradie is only going to reassure you the more you ask

15.01.2022 Yep, we’ve been absent from the page for far too long. Barely had time to scratch ourselves in the lead up to Christmas, with overflow (mostly) taken care of these past weeks, but we hope everyone has had a great start to the year! As promised, here are some photos from the house at Carrickalinga which has just recently been finished (at least on our side of things). Definitely the largest project we’ve done since we started, this one had quite a few hurdles to overcome, but we’ve certainly come out all the better for it.

12.01.2022 Waiting until the job is nearer completion for some more photos on this one at Holden hill, but this was an interesting fitting the woman was calling her artichoke light in the family room. Most areas in this one were just accessory swapovers, but we did a lot of work on their new staircase, master bedroom, en suite and theatre room. Coming soon

11.01.2022 Near complete kitchen at victor harbour (doing whole house, but this was the priority) - still needs some bits done, but happy with how this one is turning out :)

11.01.2022 Small job that we helped finish off not too long ago. Was a bit of fun installing these downlights into the sandwich panels, but she came out looking great at the end

09.01.2022 How often do you check your RCD safety switches? Most of the time, the response is err, what? You have two types of switches in your switchboards (hopefully) - circuit breakers (or fuses for old boards, an easy sign of needing an upgrade!!) which stop your house from burning down, and RCDs to reduce harm to people, possibly preventing death. You might have one covering your whole house, a few splitting everything up, or individual ones for each sub circuit - look for the ...t or test button. You SHOULD be pressing these once a month to ensure they still work! Dont get me wrong, Ive only done it a handful of times at my own place, but I do it every time I am about to work on a circuit to make sure I dont die if I make a mistake. Today I had another one where the test button didnt work at all, which is enough to defect the part, but below is a video I took from a few years ago. These are legally required to trip within .3 of a second, minimising, as much as possible, the time a person may be getting shocked. Even if you only remember to do it once a year, go and check your board! They might not even be present! If you arent sure, send us a picture so we can help you out! See more

09.01.2022 Before and after photos of a switchboard upgrade in Salisbury downs. Still a common sight, this one was yet another board which was still using fuses to protect the wiring, as well as having no rcd safety switches in the installation.

09.01.2022 Hey mate, can you find out why these downlights aren’t working? This is the sort of quality work that you get when you use an unlicensed electrician (or at least someone who fancies themselves as one). Repair work takes at least twice as long, as you spend half the time trying to figure out if and how it was even working to begin with, let alone making sure it’s all safe to touch and turn back on. Please guys, don’t take the cheapest route if they aren’t able to produce a copy of their license - there is no way this was done by a qualified tech

07.01.2022 This is at the home of a long time customer of mine that was determined to get some party lights into his feature wall. Was particularly interested in the final finish on the shelf, as it was a concrete rendering that I hadnt come across before

06.01.2022 These Haneco downlights are becoming increasingly popular with customers the past couple months! Today we made our way up to Munno Para to install 18 throughout this house. They really brighten up the living and kitchen areas, and make rooms look bigger with their slim profile

06.01.2022 Almost forgot the most important pic to share. Our up and coming apprentice!

06.01.2022 Do you need to check your smoke alarms? Everyone knows the usual spiel - when you change your clocks for daylight savings, also change your smoke alarm batteries, right? Did you also know that manufacturers also state that the units themselves shouldnt be in service for more than 10 years? Depending on dates specified in state building codes, your smoke alarms may be hard wired into your electrical installation, so you would need a qualified electrician in order to do this. Do you know what year your smoke alarms would have been installed?

05.01.2022 Switchboard upgrade yesterday - before and after photos

02.01.2022 When the possibility of being home early dissolves before your eyes... OTR got called out because there was no functional earth on the (multiple) houses that are on this block. Already bad news just eye balling it, but the readings arent real encouraging either. Can already tell it wasnt a qualified electrician that wired this one
