05.01.2022 If you are buying a business, and part of the business valuation includes a website, it pays to do some due diligence. There can be many issues not visible to the naked eye. Here are some things to look at - Who knows the website (either has built it or is maintaining it), so you can quickly and easily have any issues resolved.... Has the website been built properly in a way which does not tell Google it is poor quality * Is everything on the website working as it should? Payments, forms, etc * How easy is it for you or your staff to make changes on the website? * How long do web pages take to load? * Is your website mobile friendly and * Has it been designed to convert your visitors into clients/customers? * Does it have secure certificates installed You should also find out - * what platform it was built on (so you know what kinds of developers can maintain/fix issues) * where it is hosted, and what the annual hosting fees are * the process for changing ownership of the domain name from the seller to you * what the analytics are for the website - number of website visitors and conversions. Does the website actually work or is it a dud? Many beautiful looking websites dont actually convert customers. If I was buying a business today, I would insist on having my developer be able to look at all of these things, and if the business deal was looking like going ahead, the quality of the website (or not) would be a big factor in negotiating a price - after all it is a key marketing tool. #buyingabusiness #duediligence
