22.01.2022 Thank you Pro Bono Australia for shining a light on our amazing volunteers. You are spot on - we are so much more than a barbecue! "When you see Lions Club or ...Rotary Club barbies, you see a cluster of folk cooking. You do not see the vast network of members behind them. These clubs have extensive linkages around the world, reflecting a combined membership of over 2.6 million. In the event of a disaster they have structures and administration in place to quickly access member resources. Consequently, where a club is impacted and calls for specific resources, other clubs can quickly give them targeted support. And those barbies? They are gathering places for connecting with other community members. Social connections help you feel normal and support mental health." https://probonoaustralia.com.au//why-not-for-profits-are-/

21.01.2022 Did you know that today is World Health Day? Theres no better time than now to say a huge thank you to our incredible health care workers. We are loving seeing... all of the creative ways people are expressing their gratitude for healthcare workers around the world - whether by donating supplies, caring for their children, buying them a coffee or offering to deliver groceries. Have you seen some acts of kindness for our healthcare workers recently? Or perhaps you were on the receiving end. Share your stories below and join us in saying thanks. #WorldHealthDay See more

21.01.2022 Lions Australia is pleased to have adopted Disaster Relief Australia as one of our key projects. Disaster Relief Australia (formerly known as Team Rubicon) brin...gs military veterans, emergency responders and motivated civilians together to volunteer their time to assist with emergency and disaster relief operations. This not only helps communities devastated by disasters, but it also helps Australian veterans find purpose through community service. Lions members are often the first to respond during times of crisis, as was seen in the 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires. This partnership will be of significant benefit to both organisations - allowing veterans to get involved in more community projects, and assisting Lions clubs with more trained emergency responders in times of disaster. 17.01.2022 On 22 March, prior to us all having to go into lockdown, several Lions members travelled from Wedderburn down to Lexton near Ballarat to collect three Blaze Aid trailers. They were to go to Adelong in NSW but the Lions only took them as far as Wodonga. In Wodonga, our Lions handed the trailers over to the crew to take them further north. It was a big day of driving which was made possible by sharing the driving of the three vehicles over 5 drivers. Many thanks to Leo Matthews, Roger Paterson, Bob Steele, Lance Standfield and Ric Raftis.

15.01.2022 This September, Lions clubs are raising awareness of childhood cancer. Since its inception in 2009, Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation (ALCCR...F), with the help of people just like you, has raised over $10 million dollars for childhood cancer research and has supported countless Australian organisations leading the fight against childhood cancer. Of particular significance has been the partnership with Garvan Institute of Medical Research, where ALCCRF and Lions Clubs International helped to fund the genome sequencing of 400 children with high risk cancer, allowing for more tailored treatment plans to be developed and giving kids with cancer a better chance at recovery and the childhood they deserve. https://alccrf.lions.org.au/lions-kids-cancer-genome-proje/

Lions Clubs across the country will be hosting family friendly walks ...and community events to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the diabetes epidemic in Australia. Our aim by 14 November is to move a combined distance that exceeds Australia’s circumference (25,760 kms), so start logging your kilometres now! #LionsLapTheMap https://lionsclubs.org.au/activities/lapthemap2020/
