06.01.2022 Two swarms captured today. The first one was a textbook bucket on a pole. The second one required a bit more ingenuity. The queen landed on the trunk of a small tree. Banging the bees into the bucket and scooping by hand got lots of bees in the box, but the queen was hiding in the branch forks so I couldn't get to her. After about an hour of unsuccessful lucky dip scooping I went to plan Bee! I put a frame with fresh foundation into the tree next to the swarm and waited! The bees started to crawl from the swarm onto the frame. After about 20 minutes I carefully removed the frame and did a close inspection....and there she was crawling around on the frame. I placed the frame up against the entrance of the box and watched her walk in... Yes!

Image of his bee-house which he playfully called his Virgilian Temple, found in the preface of his 1827 bo...ok on bees, From: Historical Honeybee Articles - Beekeeping History This eminent person in beekeeping was shy and retiring, but was much beloved in the circle of his private acquaintances. It is recorded as a proof of the esteem in which he was held, that on the occasion of a great flood in the Wye, in February 1802, washing away all the doctors beehives, a public subscription was raised, and a new apiary presented to him, of which, as a very pleasing substitute for what he had playfully called his Virgilian Temple, the venerable apiarian was justly proud. His first edition of his book on bees was issued in 1827. Critics praised his book for being the first book on beekeeping "possessing any claim to the character of scientific." He also wrote a paper on the Honey-Bee Communities in the first volume of the Magazine of Zoology and Botany, and published a few copies of Hints on the History and Management of the Honey-Bee, which had formed the substance of two lectures read before the Hereford Literary Institution in the winter of 1850-51. He was one of the founders of the Entomological Society in 1833. Quoting Eva Crane - The Archaeology of Beekeeping, 1983. page 168 "Dr Edward Bevan used a romantic picture of his own thatched bee house as the frontispiece for his book"
