25.01.2022 As the third owners of Wee Jasper Wines, we are committed to delivering special local wines that celebrate their birth in the beautiful valley of Wee Jasper. A long time local resident once famously said, You can’t eat the scenery. We feel that we have proved through Wee Jasper Wines that you can certainly savour it. The vineyard is located on the banks of the pristine Goodradigbee River and enjoys the benefit of terra rossa soil and limestone. This combined with traditional grape varieties, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, produces wines with a wonderful fruit expression, elegance in structure, complexity and excellent cellaring potential. We hope you get the chance to enjoy our wine, and like it’s idyllic beginnings, savour some of that Wee Jasper magic. Mel and Steve Reynolds

21.01.2022 This year’s Merlot is now in the bottle. Just in time for Christmas!

15.01.2022 The weather may be extraordinarily hot for this time of year but the vines are looking good. The Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet vines all look good with plenty of fruit. The new Reisling vines are also coming along well, but still have a year or two to go before we start producing.

15.01.2022 Sunset over the vines.

12.01.2022 Spring is here and our 2020 vintage is on its way. Bud burst this week and our vines are back in action. Our Merlot vines were the first to break forth, closely followed by the Shiraz. The Cabernet vines were a little slower off the mark but are starting to peek through. The 2019 vintage are still in barrels at the winery and will be bottled in June 2020. Look forward to our Wee Jasper Merlot Cabernet and Wee Jasper Shiraz. Meanwhile, if you can’t wait we have our 2017 Wee Jasper Merlot and Wee Jasper Cabernet in stock at $20 a bottle.

11.01.2022 Sunrise over the vines. Time to start pruning

11.01.2022 The start of the 2019 vintage is here. Winter pruning has finished and budburst has arrived. First vines to wake up after their winter sleep are the Merlot. Followed a week later by Shiraz. Good ole Cab Sav is not coming out til it knows Winter is well and truly over and Summer is just around the corner.

10.01.2022 Nice to have a shout out from Yass Valley.

09.01.2022 After 12 months of hard work we have finally arrived. Tomorrow is picking time. The Merlot is ready now so tomorrow morning it’s nets off and into the buckets the grapes will go before being loaded into a bin and transported to the winery in Murrumbateman for crushing. We’ll be picking the Shiraz next Saturday while the Cabernet is still a couple of weeks off yet. It’s been a bit of work keeping the cockatoos at bay this year, but with the help of Kelly the cockatoo chasing kelpie, Eddie the Eagle, nets and regular patrols we have generally kept them away.

05.01.2022 With bud burst imminent, the vines are in good hands. Or maybe claws. Who else can claim to have a dragon watching over the Shiraz?

04.01.2022 What a year it has been. Despite having a great crop we lost the lot to smoke taint so no 2020 vintage. However the vines have just received their annual pruning and we’re on the way to the 2021 vintage. The good news is we just bottled our 2019 vintage. The 2019 Merlot is as good as any of our previous vintages and we’re very excited about the 2019 Shiraz. Eighteen months on oak and a bit of magic from winemaker Phil Scott have added to the Wee Jasper terroir to produce some reds we can be proud of.

03.01.2022 It’s been a busy couple of weeks at Wee Jasper Wines. We picked the Merlot early last week and delivered 816kg to the winery. That’s our best Merlot crop yet. That was surpassed on the weekend when we picked and delivered 1240 kg to the winery. Both have since been crushed and are busy fermenting right now. We plan to pick the Cabernet this weekend so it hadn’t finished yet.

03.01.2022 Grapes for the 2019 vintage picked, crushed, pressed fermented and in barrels. Now it’s just a matter of waiting, and preparing the vineyard for the 2020 vintage.

02.01.2022 A great day for picking Shiraz.

02.01.2022 Until last week this year’s Merlot was looking to be a bumper crop. Unfortunately so thought the resident white cockatoo population so now it is a much diminished crop. An incredible disappointment. With help from Chloe, Mel and Steve worked hard all Sunday getting the nets on. Hopefully the Shiraz and Cabernet won’t suffer the same fate, however last year they did work out how to get through the nets in the end. We hates them nasty cockatooses.
