19.01.2022 Meet Jules and Dee from Weeding Women Mandurah. This fabulous duo became donors to Mandurah Wildlife 2 years ago and over the years they have also brought us in...jured and orphaned wildlife they found while at work. They also have 2 birds they look after because they couldn't be released. Recently they donated again. We know small businesses are doing it tough so we told them we are so grateful and asked them what we could do to assist them. This was their response: "Nothing...we just like to support a local charity that is doing great things for our wildlife. It is our way of giving back. Things are hard for a lot of people in Mandurah, we see it all the time, but it is nice to be able to give a little when we can to you." Thank you Jules and Dee we think you are wonderful. So we are sharing your web page. Lovely women who also do great work. https://www.weedingwomen.com.au/weeding-women-mandurah/

13.01.2022 WA has been declared free of Queensland fruit fly after an intensive 15-month campaign to eradicate the destructive pest, the Department of Primary Industries a...nd Regional Development - DPIRD has announced. The final quarantine zone, in the Coolbellup area, will be lifted on Monday which means all restrictions for the movement and management of fruit in the Perth metropolitan area will have finished DPIRD says a team of more than 550 people carried out more than 173,000 property and baiting inspections, and collected and disposed of more than 35,000 kilograms of at-risk fruit in the Dalkeith and Coolbellup areas. More than 54.5 million sterile Qfly were released to prevent potential breeding and eradicate any surviving Qfly after baiting. Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan said it was a "mammoth effort" to help rid the pest from the state. "The success of these recent Qfly campaigns saved the State’s horticulture industry and economy an estimated $38 million annually in lost production and market access," she said. Qfly monitoring traps will remain in place in both areas, as part of the State’s permanent early warning trapping grid.

02.01.2022 EUROPEAN WASP WARNING The European wasp season is in full swing with 55 nests already found mostly across the Perth metro area as well as nests also to hunt d...own in Geraldton and Hyden, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development - DPIRD says. We shot this video with DPIRD last year, but thought it poignant to roll it out again given the recent sightings. The Department says the highest risk areas include the City of Gosnells Programs and Events, City of Cockburn, City of Kalamunda, City of Belmont, WA and City of Swan. "One of our recent reports, led to a queen wasp being found at the bottom of a shopping bag of groceries! We think its possible the queen hitched a ride from interstate in amongst a load of fruit and veggies. "So to keep your eyes peeled, find an excuse to have a BBQ, scoop your pool, water your garden, look for wasps and report them!" To make a report, use DPIRD's free MyPestGuide Reporter app, email [email protected] or call 9368 3080.
