05.01.2022 I would like to respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners on which the land we gather here today, the Jaara peoples. I would like to recognise First Nations People’s spiritual connection to the land, water and community. I pay my respects to my ancestral leaders; past, present and emerging as we continue our healing and learning journey together. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of A...boriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. This year’s theme has a core focus around seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country -which is Australian history, celebrating that we have the oldest continuing culture on the planet. As a result, recognise that ATSI sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be. Enjoy this week! Happy NAIDOC everyone!
04.01.2022 VCAL ADVANCE PROJECT WCB VCAL and WAT students have been busily involved in a community based project, partnering with Bendigo Family Financial Services to assist people in need. After some research and discussions with Bendigo Family Financial Services the project targeted two specific groups in need. These groups were domestic violence victims and the homeless in Bendigo.... The program through the funding of the State Government Advance Program has seen students research, purchase, accept donations to prepare and compile care packages for both the homeless and domestic violence victims in the Bendigo region. Another community based program that the VCAL/WAT have been working on has seen Sunitizer (hand sanitizer company) donate 25 litres of hand/surface sanitizer which has been bottled and labelled by the students. These bottles will be distributed to Aged Care homes within the Bendigo region. The students involved have organized and planned these projects with diligence and enthusiasm.
