25.01.2022 Good morning fellow caravaners, I just wanted to let people know that we will be on the road travelling from Yeppoon to Burrum Heads next week. If anybody is keen to find out what their car and caravan weighs, just give us a shout on FB, phone or email. We operate a professional, accurate Mobile Weighbridge service. We come to you - we carry out a thorough, complete weighing process of your vehicle and van. You will then be aware of the weight of not only each individ...ual wheel, but axle weights, and towball download. You will receive documentation to show the difference between the left and right sides of your rig, as well as front and rear of both car and van. This is the only way to establish that you are towing a safe, well balanced combination that, hopefully is within your allowable weight limits. So don't put it off any longer , we also welcome enquiries from people who just wish to ask a few questions, and may not be quite ready to be weighed just yet. At the end of the day, it is all about each of us being safe as we travel this beautiful country of ours. Till next time, see you out there!! See more

20.01.2022 Good morning guys, Just a brief message to advise people that we will be on the Sunshine Coast from Monday 16 th November and in town for about 3 weeks. We are full time caravaners having recently sold our home to travel throughout the country. We operate a mobile weighbridge business as we travel, so if you are interested in having your vehicle, caravan, boat or trailer professionally weighed on-site, then simply contact us via phone, email, or facebook to book a session. Alternatively if you just have some questions or concerns about the weight of you current rig, we are more than happy to have a yarn, and hopefully provide some answers about the process in general. At the end of the day, we are keen to see fellow caravaners, safe, legal, and informed, as we all share the roads.
20.01.2022 Measuring the Ball Weight ( TBM)of a caravan today. Some people may not be aware that this figure is included in your Gross Vehicle Mass ( GVM).
18.01.2022 Good morning guys, I have recently had a number of people ask me the difference between getting your car and caravan weighed by a professional, mobile weighing service, as opposed to using a fixed weighbridge. Good question. Using a public weighbridge is fine if you only wish to obtain a total weight figure. Also, due to the fact that most weighbridges are a busy place, you can feel under pressure to get you rig weighed quickly, then "clear the area" to allow the next cu...stomer access. Some people find this process a bit intimidating. The alternative is a mobile service. This option gives you a number of benefits. Firstly, you get an accurate weight of each individual wheel, on both the car and caravan, as well as towball download figure. These individual figures are critical if you wish to have an evenly balanced rig. You will be able to quickly see if you need to move weight around from say left to right, or front to back. Or as in most cases, remove some items altogether. Having a balanced rig, that is within your know maximum weight limits, is essential for a safe, stress-free towing experience. Not to mention knowing you are compiant and legal. Another advantage of a mobile operator, is that you are not under any pressure time- wise. The process usually takes somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes, but it can take slightly longer to do. Try occupying a public weighbridge for that amount of time, and see how friendly they are to you after that !! You will also have the opportunity to ask any amount of questions to ensure you totally understand your weights and what they mean. At the end of the day, that is exactly the outcome you want. I currently operate around the Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gracemere area, in Central Queensland, but plan to travel around Oz as soon as the current Covid 19 situation allows. If you are outside my current area, and wish to know your weights, don't hesitate to contact me, as I work in with a number of collegues around the country offering a similar service, and would be happy to put you in contact with a mobile operator in you area - if I know somebody. At the end of the day, it is all about promoting a safer, informed, group of travellers, enjoying what this great country has to offer - as we all share the roads !! Till next time, travel safe and "Know before you tow " Regards, Mark Baumann.

09.01.2022 Good morning guys, just wanted to highlight the importance of having the car and caravan correctly matched for safe towing. I was chatting to my wife this morning, and was reminded of a classic example of a gross mismatch of car and van. We were over-nighting at a free camp at Calliope in Central Qld. We were set up on a flat area about 5 or 6 metres lower than the road level having driven down a very slight grassy batter to get there. ... A bloke wandered over and we were having a chat. He said "there is no way I would camp where you are as I wouldn't be able to get back up the bank with my van" It turned out he had a new Triton single cab 2wd ute fitted with an aluminium tray and absolutely nothing loaded in the tray. His van was a 22 ft luxury caravan that looked quite heavy with bikes, front tool box etc. He commented that this was his first outing towing his existing van with his brand new ute. He said that driving at highway speeds he and his wife were almost petrified with the way the car was being pushed around by the van. I reckon the Triton's are a great ute, but this was certainly a prime example of the car and the towing load not being a safe match up. He claimed that during the discussions with the car salesman before purchasing the ute, he was told that the ute would be an outstanding tow vehicle, quoting figures relating to power, torque, and even given a power to weight ratio to highlight it's suitability. This was shown to to be a poor choice of vehicle for the job, and the bloke was really annoyed. Either way he was looking at either major modifications, or replacing the vehicle, or the van to be able to safely and legally have a set up to travel as he intended. I guess the lesson here is to do your own research, sort out the facts from the sales talk, and speak to people in a similar situation as yours to be confident that what you are buying will in fact be suitable and safe. We all make mistakes, and I have made plenty over the years with regards to buying the wrong car, ute or truck for my needs. Don't they say you only learn how to make good decisions by making a few bad ones. !! Till next time, safe travels.
08.01.2022 IN THE OLD DAYS ! ! Hi guys, I was chatting with a customer on the phone the other day about what used to be acceptable when towing years ago. Back when I was an apprentice mechanic I worked for an Equipment Hire Company on the Gold Coast. We used to do a lot of deliveries to building sites. On one occasion I remember being asked to prepare 2 trailer- mounted, builder's chemical toilets for delivery to the one location. To make it easier I used an oxy cutting outfit to cut... a hole in the steel step at the back of one of the trailers. To this hole I fitted a standard 50 mm towball and attached the second trailer, thus creating a mini road train !. The driver reckoned this was a great idea, and saved him going to the site a second time, so off he went, straight down the Pacific Highway to the building site. All perfectly acceptable in those days. Another instance that came to mind was when I was a member of Air Sea Rescue at Currumbin ( now called VMR ). We had a 24 foot Shark Cat weighing about 4 tonnes that we towed behind a short wheel base Landcruiser. I remember towing it to the boat ramp at Tweed Heads one Sunday for a training day at the Tweed bar. Upon arrival at the ramp the Tweed police were there. They came over after we launched the boat to compliment us on having a stop light on the trailer ( no indicators or number plate mind you, just a stop light). Wow, what a safety initiative !! Years later I googled the towing rating of the vehicle we used and it was rated at only 1800 kgs ! How things have changed. There is no way you could get away with those types of things anymore. Rules and regulations have changed over the years to become what we have today. This only serves to emphasise that towing anything today, whether a boat, or caravan, or whatever requires a totally different attitude. Safe towing on our roads and highways, now means we have obligations and responsibilities that we must abide by. And rightfully so. Vehicles are travelling faster, on roads with far more traffic, towing loads that seem to be getting bigger and heavier all the time. It has become common to see caravans in the 3 - 3.5 tonne range being towed around all over the place. So the bottom line is this - we need to be aware of what our vehicle and towing load weighs, otherwise we not only face financial penalties, but have a responsibility for our safety and the safety of others that we share the road with. So if you don't know what your rig currently weighs when you travel, give us a call, or message us, and when the current stay-at-home bans are lifted, we will come to you, accurately weigh your rig with state of the art equipment, and give you all the information you need, to help you understand your obligations, to remain safe on the road. Till next time, travel safe, and, KNOW BEFORE YOU TOW !! P.S. Please share, if you have any similar anecdotes about towing trailers in the past.
07.01.2022 THE EFFECTS OF WEIGHT ON A VEHICLE. We have all seen plenty of vehicles on our roads towing with either the vehicle, the trailer or both, grossly overweight. This is a growing issue, especially with the popularity of towing caravans and camper trailers. This weight has a major impact on many areas of the vehicle. These include, Chassis Dynamics, Suspension Travel, Braking Efficiency and Distance, Tyre Contact, Steering Effectiveness, Wheel Alignment, and importantly..., Legal Compliance. Given this fact, if you are towing anything, and you are overloaded, you are travelling with the safety of you, your passengers, and other road users, severely compromised. The first step in ensuring that you are towing safely is to confirm what your vehicle and trailer actually weigh! I can confirm, that almost every client that I have weighed who was shown to be over there legal weights, actually thought they weighed a lot less. Mostly, the results will surprise you. I know in my own case, I honestly thought with my ute, and caravan in "ready mode" I would be under my legal limits. Not the case. I needed to shed some weight. I also had a GVM upgrade done by Pedders (who were awesome by the way) and now I am well within my legal weights. In my opinion, the feeling that every time you hook up your trailer, and know you are legal, is worth it's weight in gold !! So don't put it off, have your rig weighed ASAP. This way you will know before you tow !!

01.01.2022 COVID CHANGE OF PLANS. Wow things sure change fast at the moment. We were planning on staying on Bribie Island for a few days after we left the Gold Coast yesterday. However after the lockdown in the Moreton Shire area, headed off to Kenilworth Showgrounds instead.... Awesome low-cost campground, and the caretaker Tony, is a super helpful bloke. Plenty of sites still available (in spite of the rain). We have heard lots of good things about Kenilworth, and it seems the're right. So we will sit out the latest round of restrictions around this fabulous farming district. Till next time, safe travels everyone. See more
