23.01.2022 "Weighforward" is currently in St Helens on the East Coast. We held a successful roadside awarness demonstration at the wharf today. Tomorrow we will be at the NRMA St Helens caravan park to talk about towing safely, the important factors of weight distribution in both your tow vehicle and caravan and how important it is to know your weights for insurance purposes. Please call in say hello, ask any questions and get some weight information. We have spots available to weigh your vehicle/caravan while in St Helens and will be heading to Bicheno next for those interested in weighing. Travel safe, take your time to pack correctly and double check your hitch and load before heading off.

10.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all. For all those heading away with their caravans/camper trailers today, tomorrow or in the next few days please remember to check your tow vehicle and trailer before you start your journey. Double check your tow hitch, check the shank pin and trailer safety clip. Load your caravan evenly and remember how it important it is to have a perfectly balanced caravan to travel safely. It is very easy to overload and put your family and others at risk. Side we...ights and the correct ball weight play a very important part of how your caravan tracks on the road. Check your ATM and TARE weights and confirm the payload limit. Please remember water and gas is not included in a caravans TARE weight. For example if your caravan has a ATM of 2200kg and a TARE of 1800kg your PAYLOAD is only 400kg. If you have 2x water tanks and 2x 9kg gas bottles fitted you have already used up 200kg of you load. This only leaves 200kg before you hit your maximum limit. Payload adds up before you know it and becoming overweight is a serious issue. Items such as bedding, clothes, bikes and bike racks, toolboxes, annexes, awning walls, ground mats and food all put caravans/campertrailers over legal limits. Not to mention extra items such as kayaks, fire pots, wood and the odd carton of beer and cordial. Please be mindful. Over weight caravans are not only a danger on the road but the insurance premiums you pay become worthless if you were unfortunately involved in a accident. Tow vehicle GVM is also a serious issue to keep an eye on. Bull bars, winches, roof baskets drawers, fridges, camp gear, bikes/racks and extra passengers often put your vehicle on the legal limit before you even add the tow ball weight of your caravan. If you are unsure about your tow vehicle or caravan weights please give us a call for some friendly free advice.
