25.01.2022 About 10:45pm on Sunday 5th July 2020 Blue Mountains HWP stopped a Ford Ranger towing a Nissan Patrol on a car carrier trailer east on the Great Western HWY at ...Bullaburra. A check of the trailers weights showed it to weigh 940kg with a maximum loaded weight of 3200kg. The Patrol being towed weighs 2760 plus the weight of all its accessories including bull bar etc. The total weight of the trailer therefore was at least 3700kg, 500kg over its maximum, and at least 200kg over the Rangers max towing capacity. The driver was issued a penalty notice for exceed maximum weight, $464 and 3 demerits points and was directed to unload. See more

20.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch Another really good article from John Cadogan - you may not like his style but he talks a lot of sense and explains the Nissan reducing GVM very well.

19.01.2022 Great to have another happy customer. We are still working despite COVID 19 and look forward to assisting others with their weight issues.

19.01.2022 I conducted a weigh on Friday of a 2016 Y62 Nissan Patrol (which I believe is a Series 3). The Patrol was towing a dual axle 19 caravan. Both vehicles were fully loaded for a lengthy trip around Australia by a family. The GCM below includes the caravan ATM of 3154.5 kgs.... Gross Vehicle Mass Analysis Total Front Axle LF 809.5 RF 813.0 1622.5 Kgs Rear Axle LR 807.5 RR 882.0 1639.5 Kgs Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) 3262.0 Kgs Tow Ball Mass (TBM) 337.0 Kgs Gross Vehicle Mass (in combination) = GVM + TBM 3599.0 Kgs Gross Combined Mass (GCM) = GVM + ATM 6416.5 Kgs What was interesting was the reduction in GVM of the vehicle allowable by Nissan due to the towball mass (TBM) of the caravan being towed. As you may be aware, for the Y62 Patrol, Nissan have a reduction in GVM based on TBM at the following increments. See the attached photo. Up to 250 kg TBM No reduction in GVM 300 kg TBM reduce GVM by 70 kg (3500 70 = 3430) allowable GVM 325 kg TBM reduce GVM by 100 kg (3500 100 = 3400) allowable GVM 350 kg TBM reduce GVM by 130 kg (3500 130 = 3370) allowable GVM The calculations below were based on a TBM of 337 kg and the owner requested I calculate the GVM reduction at 115 kg splitting the difference of the Nissan figures as it were. Compliance Plate 3500 Kgs Actual Weight 3262 Kgs Weight below GVM -238 Kgs Reduced GVM x 115 Kg 3385 Kgs GVM in combination (+ TBM of 337 Kgs) 3599 Kgs Weight ABOVE GVM +214 Kgs Most Nissan vehicles we weigh have similar or greater GVM reductions imposed due to towball mass loadings and owners should be aware of both these restrictions and Permitted Axle Weights as per the Owners Manual.

17.01.2022 Day one of the Mornington Great Outdoor and 4 x 4 Expo!! Were on Stand U43 so drop in and say gday. Mac

16.01.2022 Great to receive another 5 star review that I think sums up the Weigh Station approach very well! Michael Millen This is a very thorough and professional service provided with the provider obviously well versed and expert in the field (and very ready to provide any remedial advice required). A very thorough report is provided together with expert advice. The portability of the equipment enables the service to come to you, negating the inconvenience of having to hook up and to...w, often a considerable distance, to a fixed weighbridge. I would recommend this service to all caravan owners, as interstate enforcement becomes more intense in recent years. I thought I was comfortably within all weight limits but found my complacency to be misplaced. Even though the margins of my errors were not large and can be remedied fairly easily, had I been picked up on the road while touring, it would have put me to severe inconvenience. Well worth the modest cost involved, which is much less than any fine which might be imposed for non-compliance. Weigh Station (owner) Michael, thanks for your excellent and comprehensive review. I was happy to assist. Safe travels in the future. Mac

16.01.2022 Always something new at Weigh Station!! Got to weigh this combination on an airstrip in the Yarra Valley.

14.01.2022 Weigh Station is open for business and having an interesting time!! This week I have provided unusual Weighbridge Tickets for three different customers. A beautiful 1932 Ford Tudor Hot Rod, a 22 Baroness Yacht and a full electric conversion of a 1999 MG-F. Unfortunately I only got photos of the MG-F. With an easing of travel restrictions on the table now is the time to consider that weigh of your van and tow vehicle so you can hit the road ASAP.

13.01.2022 So nice to receive this sort of feedback. One of the perks of this business is the great people I get to meet.

13.01.2022 Another happy client - safe travels

13.01.2022 Beautiful start to a day of weighing at Bendigo. Followed by sunset on the way home!

13.01.2022 An interesting article and one I agree with completely. Any opportunity to raise safety and awareness amongst the Caravan and towing community should be supported. https://www.caravancampingsales.com.au//council-slams-cara

12.01.2022 About 9:30am on Thursday 7th May 2020 police stopped a Holden Rodeo towing a car trailer laden with another Holden Rodeo as it traveled east on the Great Wester...n HWY at Medlow Bath. A check of the trailer showed it weighs 840kg (tare) and has a maximum laden weight of 2000kg (ATM). The Rodeo loaded on the trailer weighs 1620kg (tare) plus accessories such as its bullbar add to its weight. Therefore the laden trailer weighed at least 2460kg, which is 460kg overweight. The driver was given a direction to unload and received an infringement for exceeding maximum laden weight $457 and 3 Demerit Points. See more

02.01.2022 A good article that raises the issue of vehicle weights with some often asked questions. I disagree with the necessity to count towball mass (TBM) twice. My opinion is shared by a VASS Engineer who specialises in the caravan industry. Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule Definitions and Vehicle Categories) 2005 Compilation 4 define Gross Combination Mass as: GROSS COMBINATION MASS - value specified for the vehicle by the Manufacturer as being the maximum of the sum o...f the Gross Vehicle Mass of the drawing vehicle plus the sum of the Axle Loads of any vehicle capable of being drawn as a trailer. This means the GVM includes the TBM of your caravan or trailer and the axle loads of the trailer are added to determine the GCM https://www.club4x4.com.au/the-questions-no-one-wants-to-a/

02.01.2022 2nd day at the Victorian Caravan Camping and Touring Show. Come on down to site 232 and say Gday. Mac

01.01.2022 CARAVAN ROLLOVER This is all thats left of a caravan that rolled on the North West Coastal Hwy at Ajana, near the Kalbarri turnoff, earlier this week. Northa...mpton Police acting OIC Brendan Davidson said its believed the weight wasnt correctly distributed in the van and this probably contributed to the accident. "The caravan just got a bit of a wobble behind the car and eventually the wobble took over and a bit of an over steering occurred and in the blink of an eye the caravans rolled, the cars rolled and they ended up on the incorrect side of the road narrowly avoiding a gully thats there," Acting sergeant Davidson said. Fortunately, the driver and passenger werent injured. He said theres been a big increase in the region recently in vehicles towing boats and caravans and he urged drivers to be aware of the risks before embarking on a trip. He said it can be a recipe for disaster if weight isnt correctly distributed in a van.
