22.01.2022 The Diabetes Surgery Summit, endorsed by over 50 international organisations including the Australian Diabetes Society, recommends metabolic surgery for the management and treatment of type 2 diabetes in patients with obesity. Clinical evidence has found that people with obesity and type 2 diabetes who undergo bariatric surgery not only improve their glycemic control and reduce their medication usage, but also reduce the risks of heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and cancer, and improve their overall quality of life and longevity.

18.01.2022 It's National Diabetes Week! Did you know that over 4% of Australians (which is around 1 million people!) have Type 2 Diabetes? This is expected to increase to 3 million people by 2025*. Diabetes remission or improvement is a known benefit of weight loss surgery, with studies showing that after bariatric surgery, blood glucose may return to normal without medication in up to three out of four people with type 2 diabetes, while others are able to reduce their diabetes medicat...ion^. It's always great to hear our patients have been able to stop taking diabetes medication! * Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics ^ Source: Diabetes Australia

09.01.2022 As I'm sure most of you are aware, restrictions on elective surgeries have been lifted. While that means we have resumed operating, hospitals are still exercising caution and using COVID-safe measures to protect patients and staff. This means that there are still some limitations in place regarding surgeries, in particular, how many can be performed during our regular theatre lists. With that in mind, we are doing our very best to accommodate everyone as quickly as possible..., and we would like to thank everyone for their patience during this time. If we all keep up with washing our hands, and practice social distancing, we'll be back to normal soon enough. Stay safe!

See you all soon! See more

04.01.2022 Though we have plenty of room on our comfy couches for social distancing, we kindly ask that everyone visiting the rooms is being COVID safe. That means not bringing more than one person with you to your appointment, and not coming in if you are unwell with cold or flu like symptoms. We can always make your appointment a teleconsult! This way, we can continue to safely offer our services to everyone
