25.01.2022 If you are not able to be as active as you normally would be, because you have to be at home more lately, then this video can show you some simple exercises to maintain your physical condition and just get moving. This video is a recording of one of our first online exercise classes in March.
25.01.2022 These are some good exercises you can do with your therabands. (Don’t do the exercise that is shown as the group exercise. It could cause shoulder injuries in some people). You could do them everyday to get maximal benefit from the exercises. This is an easy way to stay strong over the Christmas break. Stay strong, enjoy moving.

19.01.2022 This article is about the work that the Community Based Rehabilitation team are doing in Santo, Vanuatu. They are doing a fantastic job of continuing to use the knowledge and skills they learnt during their training, and building on these by accessing other training opportunities. They have made a big difference to many peoples lives.

(Monday 28th January is a public holiday) The Monday 9.30 classes will resume the following week on Monday 4th February.... I am looking forward to getting back into exercising together, after my time away last year. We have a very exciting special offer to start the new year! In week 2 we are offering an individual assessment to see how you are tracking with your physical health. Individual advice will be given to make sure you are exercising to get the most benefit. Areas of assessment can include: Strength, flexibility, balance, posture, body mass index, exercise for diabetes, weight management, bone strengthening and heart and lung capacity. A report will be provided to each person and / or your GP to help with monitoring progress. Cost: $25 (a receipt will be provided for Private Health refund purposes. Usual rebate for extras is $23) Jessie (Accredited Exercise Physiologist) will conduct assessments in week 2 & 3 of term 1. To book your individual assessment, place your name on the list when you arrive at the class, and you will have your assessment at the Wilston hall at a convenient time over the next couple of weeks. (This is not a medical check up) Dont forget to like the Well Balanced facebook page if you use facebook, and you will stay up to date with what is happening at Well Balanced. 10.01.2022 Hello everyone. Here is a copy of our latest newsletter. (Upcoming dates included below) Recovery from illness and injury. A few people from our exercise groups have recently experienced being incapacitated by an injury, illness or surgery. It is a difficult time, even more so if the recovery is slow and being dependent on the assistance from other people continues for a prolonged time. Sometimes it feels that things are never going to return to normal. It takes a lot of pa...tience, persistence and wisdom being able to accept help when needed but doing those things in your power to help yourself recover. We all send our thoughts and prayers to those who are still working on their recovery, and hope they can join as in the not-too-distant future. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference Serenity Prayer, Reinhold Niebuhr. 08.01.2022 A good reminder of all the things we can do to prevent sustaining an injury from having a fall. Keep strong and active and be aware of risky situations or behaviours.
07.01.2022 Here is another option for exercising at home. A very graceful combination of ballet movements. You should repeat the routine with the chair on your left.

05.01.2022 Participating in online exercise classes is an example of being adaptable while maintaining the physical distancing restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Well Balanced exercise and balance program continues to maintain physical capacity of our senior members of our community, while they learn new skills and competence using technology! Many older people are noticing that their legs feel heavy or weak as a result of their reduced incidental physical activity and reg...ular formal exercise since the COVID-19 restrictions have come into play. It is more important than ever to make the most of new ways of keeping physically active to keep your muscles strong, keep your joints moving and challenge your balance reactions. Added resistance work will also help to maintain your bone density, which is so important to prevent broken bones. And dont forget to get some sunshine in the mornings or afternoons for your dose of Vitamin D, also for strong bones. No falls or fractures for us! Keep on moving! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful Easter. Take care. Ros

01.01.2022 Update from Vanuatu Ben and I travelled back to Vanuatu in June, to continue doing some volunteer work with Medical Santo. We arrived on Tuesday 28th June and initially spent a few days on the island of Gaua, which is a volcano in the northern Banks group of islands. We went there primarily as a holiday to climb the volcano and see the local custom "water music" dancers. Unfortunately we did not get to the top of the volcano due to wet and windy conditions, but we were able t...Continue reading
