24.01.2022 Create a freezer stash Not only does having a fully-stocked freezer makes whipping up meals a breeze, it saves you time and money. It allows you to buy stuff in bulk when on sale or in season. If you like, you can freeze veggies, meat, fish and nuts as soon as you buy them to ensure they stay fresh. And, we definitely recommend freezing any leftovers you might have. A full freezer is a green freezer! Freezers work more efficiently when theyre full. Solids freeze at a lower t...emperature than air, so its actually a good thing to stock up your freezer. Foods to freeze: Nuts. It keeps them crispier. Also, nut meals can go rancid easily, but not if you freeze them! Starchy vegetables (like corn and peas). These are often better frozen than fresh. The freezing process stops the starch from breaking down. Seafood. This goes off very quickly, so we recommend you freeze it if youre not going to use it on the day you buy it. Cooked rice and pasta. So handy! Bread. Slice it up and freeze it as a loaf. Wine. Store leftover wine in ice cube trays, then they can be easily added to the pan to sauté or deglaze. Stock. Again, store in ice cube trays or in 1 cup serves. Herbs. Try finely chopping leftover herbs while fresh and freeze in an ice cube tray with oil. Watch out for freezer burn. Make sure everything is covered, filling containers to the top. A note on freezer storage containers: Using the right storage containers is important. Square or rectangular containers tend to stack better, allowing extra room in your freezer. The best containers are glass with BPA-free plastic lids. There are also many BPA-free plastic containers available in supermarkets, which are also safe to use. The next best option would be ziplock or freezer bags. With information coming at us from every direction, it often seems like something is good for you one day but reported as unhealthy the next! Its easy to get confused about... what is nutritious and what is not. One thing thats important to keep straight is that whole foods are much better for you than processed foods, but that doesnt mean you have to give up processed foods altogether. Its important to remember that nutrition isnt just about food, but also what you drink and how much you need to drink. 20.01.2022 Have you ever had one of those days where you had great plans, but things happened and those plans were thrown out the window? Well for me, today was that day! My plans were to share with you the new direction for Well and Fit for Life, our 7 Pillars to Wellness, I was going to let you know that from tomorrow you would see our new logo on our socials, and that you could sign up to our mailing list, I was going to go for a nice long walk, and the list of what I was going to ...do went on. Today instead of doing what I wanted to do, I did none of them and its not because I didnt try. How often does this happen? We sit exhausted on the couch feeling disappointed that somehow weve let ourselves or our families down. There have been many of these days when I had a list of things I wanted to get done and then look at the pile of washing that didnt get folded or the dishes that didnt get washed and think to myself how does everyone else do it! So, Im here to tell you that if youve ever had a day like I did today, it probably wont be your last (Im sorry), but youre not the only one. But heres the thing, if you were to write down all the things you did do on that day, and forget about the things you didnt, would that help, would you realise what you actually accomplished? Next time youre feeling like I was, try it because, Im pretty sure your list isnt going to say sat on the couch, ate the kids chocolate and watched TV. Instead of rushing through all the things I wanted to get done today, and maybe my expectations of what I could do were a little ambitious, and sending out half complete or not fully formed ideas and information I am going to step it back. Tomorrow across all our socials you will see our new branding, and with that more information about us and whats next, you will be able to sign up to our mailing list and you may even get a free gift, then from next week we will be introducing our 7 Pillars to you, one each day. 05.01.2022 | SERVING SIZE - ARE YOU EATING THE RIGHT AMOUNT? | Did you know, you can eat totally clean and still not change your body composition? calories in vs calories out and macronutrient targets matter, you can certainly still overeat regardless of how "healthy" your meals are. The 1200 calorie diet is far outdated. There is no set magical ratio or number! The amount you need of each ingredient or meal is dependant on your individual macronutrient and calorie requirements. Servin...g sizes are generalised. Also, taking into account what you have and haven't consumed that day will make a difference to your optimum serving size. So how much then? There is no one-size fits all when it comes to "how much", and if someone tells you you should be eating x-amoumt of calories without knowing your biometrics, efficacy of your metabolism, activity level and hormonal function...RUN. In fact, if said person is not a nutritionist (bsc) or dietician they should not be advising on macro targets or calories for you anyway. 01.01.2022 Since we finished up our Group Training and Personal Training sessions at the end of last year we took some time to out regroup, and just as we were preparing to sign on the dotted line and begin a re-launch of sorts, when we were stopped.. Right now we are living in one of the toughest times, it is relentless, exhausting and rapidly changing. With everything going on around us its prompted us to reflect more deeply than ever on our future and our purpose. We want you to... feel and look your best, we want to provide you with a holistic approach to your health. Not just your fitness or your food but all aspects of, the whole picture of your health mind, body and soul. So this is really a change in vision, identity and perception for us. We have always wanted to inspire you to believe in yourself, to be fit and healthy, to prioritise yourself. What we want to do now is take that further and help you achieve whole body health. And with that we are excited to announce that we are taking this opportunity to re-brand to Well and Fit for Life, we believe that this represents and aligns with our vision and identify. Over the coming days you will see branding changes across our socials.
