23.01.2022 Match report from the final round of the regular season (27/9/20) Wellington Warriors are just one win away from completing a perfect season, following a 3-0 victory against Dubbo Bulls FC. While it may seem like a comfortable victory on paper, it was far from easy for the Warriors early on as Bulls pressed forward trying to force a mistake from the Warriors defence. ... While the defence held strong, Warriors midfield and forwards seemed to turn the ball over more often than they would have liked after opting for longer passes rather than shorter passes. Things looked like they were turning south for Wellington as the referee decided to start showing cards like they were going out of fashion for seemly innocuous challenges. Around the 35 minute mark, Wellington were reduced to 10 men as Nico Caimer allegedly used a couple of choice words to describe the referee. Most teams would have just tried to get to half time level with a man down but the Warriors managed to take the lead before the break, George Morley continued his fine form, finishing off a great cross from Juan Disteffano to put Wellington up 1-0 at the break. The second half was completely different from the first as the send off seemed to trigger Wellington into action. Playing with 10 men, the Warriors started to take control of the match. It looked like they were playing with 12 men as they started to find a lot of space in midfield and produced an excellent passing display, never really giving Bulls a chance in the second half. Nick Hangan and Juan Disteffano both added goals as Wellington held strong and kept yet another clean sheet. Federico Pepe Weimann was named player of the match Meanwhile in Gulgong, the North West Falcons confirmed that they will be the Warriors’ opponent in the grand final after edging out EDU in a thrilling 3-2 win Congratulations to the Falcons on reaching the grand final and we look forward to fighting it out in 2 weeks time Stay tuned for the full details regarding the upcoming grand final

22.01.2022 Match report from round 3 (19/7/2020) Today, Wellington Warriors took a trip to Gulgong to play their first away match for the season against a physical North West Falcons team, featuring two former Wellington players, Jamie Hunt and Dillon Price. For the second consecutive match, Wellington managed to score in the first minute of the match. In a crazy opening, Wellington were awarded a penalty which was converted by Nick Streicher after Juan Disteffano was taken down in the ...box. The early goal didn’t rattle Falcons however as they fought their way back into the match in the first half, both teams fighting hard for the ball and producing some tough challenges. An equaliser came for Falcons around the 25th minute after putting a long ball over the Warriors backline and the goal was allowed to stand despite calls for offside. At 1-1 Wellington seemed like they were their own worst enemy at times, the midfield lacked creativity and continuously tried long through balls which were easily snuffed out by the Falcons’ goalkeeper. With the match in the balance at half time, Wellington knew that they needed to improve and after a stern half time chat, strategic change in formation and inspired substitutions, Wellington started the second half significantly better than the first half. The long through balls switched to short passing and yielded immediate results, goals to Juan Disteffano and Matias Sienra from open play, and a brilliant free kick from just outside the box by Francisco Alfonso extended the Warriors lead to 4-1 with 15 to play. The match threatened to boil over late as Falcons had a player sent off following repeated late challenges, mainly against Francisco Alfonso whose expert control of the ball frustrated the Falcons all match. No further goals were scored and the match ended Wellington Warriors 4 - North West Falcons 1 Goal scorers for Wellington were Nick Streicher (1,pen), Juan Disteffano (1), Francisco Alfonso (1), Matias Sienra (1) Player of the match was Francisco ‘pancho’ Alfonso Please give this match report a like and share and get the word out about our great results

21.01.2022 Match report from 9/8/20 Wellington Warriors had another away match today, this time taking on Newtown Devils in Dubbo. As the match began, it was immediately clear that the Warriors record 19-0 victory last week may have been a fluke. Some woeful passing and a general lack of energy across the park ensured that this was going to be a difficult and frustrating match. ... The first half was relatively even, Warriors were their own worst enemy as they just couldn’t seem to string more than a few passes together for a long period of time. To their credit, Newtown put in a lot of effort in midfield and seemed to beat the Warriors to the ball more often than not. Wellington desperately needed a spark in midfield, and they got one from Moran Lamy who played like a one man army, scoring a crucial goal just before half time. While they were 1-0 up at half time, the frustration continued for Wellington in the second half. An equaliser came midway through the second half for the Devils. It wasn’t all bad for the Warriors however, as they did have some periods of good play. CJ Wheatley found himself in the right place at the right time in the box as the Warriors went 2-1 up. The match was finally put to bed in the final minutes. Nick Hangan caught everyone off guard, unleashing a powerful rocket into the top right hand corner of the goal from well outside of the box. The Devils keeper couldn’t even move as he watched in horror as the shot sailed over his head and into the net. Final score: Wellington Warriors 3 - Newtown Devils 1 Goal scorers were Moran Lamy (1), CJ Wheatley (1) and Nick Hangan (1) Matt Dorin was named player of the match for his excellent defensive performance With the 3 points secured following today’s win, Wellington are sitting on top of the table with a perfect 12 out of 12 available points. Despite the win, Wellington will need to improve greatly following today’s relatively poor performance, starting next week against the 3rd Newtown team in 3 weeks - Newtown Saints

09.01.2022 Match report from 13/09/20 Today the undefeated Wellington Warriors took on 2nd placed EDU in a crucial top of the table clash, a win for Wellington would secure a grand final berth in 3 weeks time. Both teams had a lot to play for and it showed in the first half as a close match ensued, however, it was Wellington who dominated possession as EDU decided to play defensively and hope for a quick counter attacking opportunity.... Despite dominating possession, Wellington didn’t create too many goal scoring opportunities as a stubborn EDU defensive line proved hard to crack. Wellington were finally rewarded for their dominance just before half time, a smart quick throw in from near the halfway line fell to Nick Streicher who decided to hit a powerful shot while EDU weren’t fully paying attention. The goalkeeper looked like he had the shot covered, until it took a fortuitous deflection of a defenders head and bounced into the goal. Down by a goal at halftime, EDU decided to play slightly less defensively in the second half in search of an equaliser but much like in the first half, Wellington continued to dominate possession and kept the ball in EDUs half. Wellington finally cracked the EDU defense in the second half, a great through ball put Juan Disteffano 1 on 1 with the keeper to make it 2-0. A few minutes later Nick Hangan produced a perfectly placed powerful long shot which hit the post and went in, and Sam Frankham also added a goal late to make it 4-0 Player of the match was Nico Caimer A brilliant performance in a tough match has secured a grand final appearance for Wellington who will head in as favourites. With only two rounds remaining, their opponents will be decided in the final round when 2nd placed EDU take on 3rd placed Gulgong. Unlike previous years, the shortened season means there are no semi-finals this year, only a grand final between the top two teams, making the final round crucial for both clubs. This was the last home game for Wellington, the final two rounds plus the grand final will all be played in Dubbo, hope to see you all there cheering on our men!

08.01.2022 Grand final match report: Wellington Warriors have capped off a perfect season with a hard fought victory against the North West Falcons in the Dubbo and District Football Association 3rd grade grand final Going into the grand final as heavy favourites after winning all 9 previous matches, scoring 60 goals and conceding just 2 goals, some people may have thought Wellington would coast to an easy victory after being so dominant all year. ...Continue reading
08.01.2022 Today Wellington Warriors took the trip along the Mitchell Highway to Dubbo and played against Newtown Demons. After two consecutive wins to start the season, Wellington were quietly confident heading into the match but nobody was prepared for what was going to unfold over the next 90 minutes. The match was over before it began as Wellington completely dominated from the opening whistle, after 15 minutes they were already up 4-0.... From this point onwards the only question that remained was how many could they score? Some clinical finishing ensured that the goals kept coming at a consistent pace and the crowd largely lost count of the score. The referees final whistle was the only thing that could put an end to the onslaught as the Demons simply had no answer. Final score: Wellington Warriors 19 - Newtown Demons 0 Goal scorers were Juan Disteffano (4), Moran Lamy (4), Matias Sienra (3), Richard Fitzsimmons (2), CJ Wheatley (2), Nick Hangan (1), Roby Rob (1), Federico Weimann (1), Tom Simpson (1) Player of the match was Moran Lamy An extraordinary performance from the men has certainly put the competition on notice, however there is still a long way to go in the season and the Warriors will need to remain focused if they are to finish in the top two and make the grand final. Don’t forget to like and share this post and spread the word about our amazing results

07.01.2022 Match report from 23/8/20 Today Wellington Warriors were finally able to take to the pitch following another frustrating cancellation due to rain last week, this time taking on Macquarie United at home. Any doubts about the Warriors form quickly evaporated as the goals once again flowed for the home team, by half time the score line was already 8-0.... There was a clear difference in skill level between the two sides and Macquarie tried hard but the second half didn’t get any better for them. A dominance of possession, improved passing and clinical finishing ensured that Wellington reached double figures for the second time this season, adding a further 9 goals in the second half for a comprehensive 17-0 victory. Goal scorers were Juan Disteffano (7), CJ Wheatley (3), George Morley (2), Matias Sienra (2), Nico Caimer (1), Richard Fitzsimmons (1), Roby Rob (1, pen) Player of the match was Nico Caimer who managed to score on debut for the club Halfway through the season and Wellington are flying high at the top of the table with a perfect 5 wins from 5 matches. Another great performance today but the boys know that some tougher matches await in the coming weeks and they’ll be up for the challenge.

04.01.2022 Match report from round 1 (5/7/20) Wellington Warriors finally got their season underway today against South Dubbo Wanderers (SDW) following a two month delay caused by Covid-19. A number of new faces have joined the club this season, and there were a few question marks over how well the team would work together as they only commenced training a few weeks ago and had not yet played a full match as a team.... Any fears about team chemistry were immediately put to bed in sensational style, as Juan Disteffano, on debut, scored within the opening minute. The opening goal was made more impressive given that SDW kicked off to start the match. Wellington completely dominated the first half, controlling possession and creating a number of goal scoring opportunities. Another player on debut, Federico Weimann and club veteran Richard Fitzsimmons would both add a goal to make it 3-0 at the break. SDW were extremely lucky not to be down by more as Tom Simpson and CJ Wheatley both managed to hit the crossbar as their goalkeeper was kept busy throughout the half. Second half was more of the same, Wellington finding space with ease as Weimann found the net again, along with CJ Wheatley and, against all odds, George Morley who got the loudest cheer of the day from the crowd. All of Wellingtons new recruits were outstanding, some solid defense from Kristian Laskowski and Matias Sienra ensured that the SDW attack was never threatening, meanwhile Roby Rob looked dangerous in attack and Francisco Alfonso absolutely dominated the midfield, creating a number attacking opportunities for the team. Final score: Wellington 6 - SDW 0 Goal scorers were Federico Weimann (2), Juan Disteffano (1), Richard Fitzsimmons (1), CJ Wheatley (1) and George Morley (1) Player of the match was Juan Disteffano
