07.01.2022 Gippsland Covid-19 Aug 1 update There are three new coronavirus cases in Gippsland, with one new case in each Latrobe City, South Gippsland and Bass Coast s...hire. Latrobe has seven active cases, Bass Coast has five, South Gippsland has four, Baw Baw has three, and East Gippsland has one. There are no active cases in Wellington. Victoria has recorded 397 new cases today. Sadly, there have been three deaths - a woman aged in her 90s, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 80s. Two of the three new deaths are linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities. To date, 116 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria. 1841 cases may indicate community transmission. There are currently 5,919 active cases in Victoria. There are 379 people in hospital, including 41 patients in intensive care. Masks will be mandatory in regional Victoria from 11:59 pm on Sunday night. The penalty for not wearing a mask is $200. If you are driving alone, or only travelling with people from your household, you do not need to wear a face covering. Put your face covering on before you leave your vehicle. If you are driving with people for work, or people you don’t live with, then you must wear a face covering unless you have a lawful excuse. You must wear a face covering if you are a passenger or driver in a taxi. If you are doing exercise or physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing, such as running, you do not need to wear a face covering. You do have to carry a mask with you so you can wear it before and after exercising, unless you have a lawful exemption. You must wear a face mask when walking for exercise even if the 1.5m physical distancing is maintained, unless you have a lawful excuse such as a medical condition, where it would be danger to have obstructed breathing while walking around. Children and people aged 12 years and older should wear a face covering. Children under the age of 12 do not have to wear a face covering but individual families can make their own decisions regarding their children. But children under two years should never wear a face covering due to choking and strangulation risks. If you’re working alone on your farm and not coming into contact with other people, a mask IS NOT needed. If you’re working on your farm with people who live in the same house as you, a mask IS NOT needed. If you’re working on your farm alongside people who do not live in the same house as you, a mask IS REQUIRED. A staff member and a resident at Bupa Traralgon have COVID-19. Staff and residents were tested after a health worker, who visited the centre on July 16, later tested positive. Residents are isolating in their rooms. The rest of Bupa's Traralgon aged care workforce and residents have has returned negative COVID-19 test results. A staff member at the Gippsland South Health Service has tested positive to coronavirus. The worker isolated after feeling sick on Tuesday, July 21 and hasn't been at work since. The health service operates the Leongatha and Korumburra hospitals. It is important that everyone with coronavirus symptoms, however mild, gets tested and must stay at home until they receive their test results. Those who test positive and their close contacts must isolate for 14 days. The most common symptoms of coronavirus are fever, chills or sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose or loss of sense of smell. The cumulative number of cases in Gippsland is 60: Latrobe (16), Wellington (13), Baw Baw (9), Bass Coast (10), South Gippsland (10), East Gippsland (2). Premier Daniel Andrews has reminded people to stay home while waiting for COVID-19 test results. "Unless we drive down the time between first illness, first sense of symptoms in other words, how quickly people then get tested unless we make that much faster than it is now, and people isolate in that intervening period, and unless we have people who get tested staying at home and isolating until they get their results, then we will not see these numbers come down," Mr Andrews said. Travel between NSW and Victoria has closed. To travel from Victorian into NSW you need a permit. The only people not required to have a border permit are emergency service and law enforcement workers and people "entering NSW to avoid injury or escape a risk of harm". The advice for people in Gippsland is to stay safe. Gippslanders can leave their house for all purposes, but should work from home if they can, and the same goes for higher education. Gippslanders cannot enter metropolitan Melbourne except for necessary purposes including sourcing necessary goods or services; work and education if necessary; medical care or compassionate reasons. People living in Gippsland can travel to Melbourne for medical care and treatment and return home. The restrictions mean you can't visit friends or do shopping while you are there. Basically, you're allowed go down and see your doctor, specialist or dentist and to head straight back home when you're done. But make sure to carry documentation so you can show why you are travelling in case you're stopped. You’re allowed to move to a new house while Melbourne is adhering to stage three restrictions. People are allowed to move their principal place of residence, including from Melbourne into Gippsland. But make sure you have paperwork which will help police if they decide to stop you while you are travelling to your new home. People in established intimate relationships can visit each other, even if one lives in regional Victoria and the other lives in Melbourne. Police are taking a common-sense approach to issuing fines for breaching the lockdown, including entering a restricted area. You can drive through Melbourne, but travellers should aim to fill up with fuel before entering the restricted area. If you do fill up, try to use gloves or hand sanitiser and practice social distancing. V/Line trains on the Gippsland line are running as normal and Victoria Police will enforce the restrictions about people entering from locked-down areas. Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton says social distancing is crucial. " This virus is not selective - it will impact anyone it encounters, and personal contact is the clear source of its transmission. COVID-19 testing is based on the clinical symptoms which include any fever, chills or breathing problems, specifically cough, sore throat or shortness of breath. If you suspect you may have coronavirus call the dedicated hotline: 1800 675 398. If you are unwell: Self-isolate at home, do not go to public places, do not attend work, schools, universities or social gatherings during this period and do not visit aged care facilities.
