01.01.2022 Today, marks the 28th Anniversary of the MABO decision. On this day in 1992, the High Court of Australia legally recognised the Meriam people as the Traditional Owners of Mer (Murray Island), Torres Strait. Mabo Day occurs annually on 3 June. It commemorates Eddie Koiki Mabo (29 June 193621 January 1992) a Torres Strait Islander whose campaign for Indigenous land rights led to a landmark decision of the High Court of Australia that, on 3 June 1992, overturned the legal ficti...on of terra nullius which had characterised Australian law with regards to land and title since the voyage of James Cook in 1770. The 1992 Mabo High Court decision acknowledged the prior and enduring rights to land of the First Peoples and led to Native Title. The Mabo decision was monumental for Indigenous Australians, a significant time and place in Australia's history. Decades of advocacy by Eddie Mabo, Sam Passi, David Passi, Celuia Mapo Salee and James Rice, paved the way for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to have their native title recognised under Australian law

01.01.2022 This has been a great program and a big thanks to everyone involved and a special mention goes to our Bus driver Lance Kerr

01.01.2022 https://www.slatergordon.com.au//nsw-strip-search-class-ac NSW Strip Search Class Actions Investigation | Slater and Gordon... The investigation builds on the work done by Redfern Legal Centre as part of its ‘Safe and Sound’ campaign to change strip search laws, and research by the University of New South Wales, which found that NSW Police are using their strip search powers at an alarmingly high rate, and in many cases, in breach of the law.. Strip searches in NSW have increased over 20 fold in just over a decade. www.slatergordon.com.au
