25.01.2022 not long before the 40th running of Wellingtons famous Wellington Boot. We are ready and will be wearing green on the day in our lounge room. Did you know that the Boot Racing Carnival was the Garryowen Race meeting always held on or near 17th March (St Patricks Day)?

25.01.2022 Nothing like a sleep in with a good book. Hope that you have all enjoyed the break for those who are returning to work, it is only a couple of weeks before Australia Day long week end break. What a lovely surprise to hear from the grand daughter of a school friend who ordered a copy of Wellingtons Treasures. This is the great part of the book - catching up with long lost friends.

24.01.2022 So many stories in Wellingtons Treasures, but I do like the Fine Cotton saga for many reasons. I hope that you enjoyed that story too.

23.01.2022 Just relaxing after a busy weekend in wonderful Wellington. Wellingtons Treasures has made more friends during the weekend with several former residents purchasing their copies and relating some of their memories. Only a few more copies left in this print run so decisions soon have to be made. If you cant track me down, copies of Wellingtons Treasures are still available from Food 2 Go, Wellington@Realty and The Book Connection in Dubbo.

22.01.2022 I am soooo excited!! The un-named lady on page 43 is Junice (June) OKeefe. Junice and her husband John, who worked at the Bank of New South Wales, became friendly with the Rossiter family through the Wellington Musical Society. The OKeefes were only in Wellington a few years but continued their friendship with the Rossiter family after the OKeefes left Wellington for Newcastle. In later years they lived at Carlingford. Many thanks to Vicki Conn nee Rossiter, for this am...azing information. I try to be as accurate as possible, but sometimes I need peoples memories and eyes! If you have any family stories or memories for future books, please drop me a note as I am sure other people will be interested too. Wellingtons Treasures is available at the Second Chance Sale in the former Western Stores Building 29th February and Sunday 1st March. Our kind retailers Food 2 Go, Wellington@Realty and The Book Connection also have copies for sale. See more

21.01.2022 We wish to a very happy Easter from our house to yours. Stay safe and well. An excellent time to catch up on our reading and phoning a friend.

20.01.2022 Happy Greece Independence Day to the Greek pioneers who enriched and continue to our lives and our beautiful town. Have a great day. Have you read the Tarros story on pages 66? There are lots of wonderful memories there.

19.01.2022 What a wonderful day I had yesterday! I received a phone call from former Wellington resident, Norman Sharf. Norman, who is now 90 recalled many of the wonderful times he enjoyed while living in Wellington. He was a classmate of another former well-known resident, Ray Sherringham. They were in the Primary Schools Fife band along with Alf Thomas who played the bass drum. Norman and I talked for ages, but it was just so enjoyable the time flew by. I have now been able to put N...orman and Ray in touch which just made my day! I would like to be a little fly on the wall when the letters start flowing! This is the magic that I receive from Wellington Treasures. Through the week I have heard from Dawn McMillan nee Burke and David Powell. David is hoping to make contact with a friend from back then Ross McKay. Rosss mother, Molly, was originally a Cox from Gleneski, she married then remarried to Jack Lasserre. David and Ross were at school together at St Stanilaus in Bathurst Any information would be greatly appreciated. We also visited the Wellington Cemetery, which is looking very neat and tidy. There were two ladies from Orange restoring a grave. It is good to see people taking care of our history and their heritage. I couldnt resist these photos. See more

19.01.2022 We are off to Wellington Arts Second Chance Sale being held in the former Western Stores Building, Nanima Crescent Vintage Fair Weekend. Wellingtons Treasures is also available from Viv Wellington at Wellington@Reality, Food 2 Go or The Book Connection in Dubbo.

18.01.2022 Yesterday we celebrated our sons 47th birthday with a new experience - a Zoom birthday party where he cut the cake etc and we all joined singing Happy Birthday. Today we celebrate what would have been my fathers 123rd birthday. My Dad is featured on the cover of Wellingtons Treasures and I just love the photo. I hope that you enjoyed his story - I will re-read it today and of course have my own additional thoughts. In these historic times, please keep safe and well.

16.01.2022 We have had some lovely rain however the first day of the Wellington Boot Racing Carnival is not on today. Hopefully with the breeze today the track will have dried out a little and will be in good form for tomorrows running of the Wellington Boot feature race and other events. Here are a few memories from Wellingtons Treasures. Book 1 is still available. Perhaps contact me $45.00 plus $13.50 if posted.

15.01.2022 Still working on my Wellington Citizens Band story. Marching girls in this photo - Joan Moylan, Heather Cooper, Jeanette Campbell. Can anyone help with the other names? I am also one name missing from a Band photo taken in 1952, but will get to that a little later.

15.01.2022 Wow, we have reached 200 likes on this Facebook page. Thank you to all of you who are following the page. I do appreciate your support. The decision will soon have to be made - do we go into a third print of book one, while book two is progressing very slowly? There are so many wonderful stories and people who have contributed to our wonderful Wellington that it is soooo hard to decide who to write about next. I have been looking at our beautiful Cameron Park and Mr T.H. Cam...eron after whom the park was named. Did you know that he was held captive by Ned Kelly in Glenrowan? He went on to start the Western Stores and become Mayor of Wellington. Ah well, I love the stories just have to get them on paper. A limited number of Wellingtons Treasures are available from Food 2 Go, The Book connection and me, phone 0428 209 475. Thank you to Lee Chown for these photos which bring back some memories of Wednesday afternoon sport. We lined up outside ready to go into the water. The pool was drained as soon as our sport was finished. See more

14.01.2022 A few weeks ago I spoke to Yvette Aubusson-Foley in a personal capacity and we got talking. Yesterdays Dubbo Photo News had the result of our conversation. In the same issue was another photo connected to me, but they would not have known that. Wellington Treasures is available from the Book Connection in Dubbo and from me. This is a great time to catch up on the reading.

13.01.2022 Dropped a copy of Wellingtons Treasures in to Central West Library at Orange. There were some wonderful Lego displays on display and I just couldnt help clicking a couple. We will be at the Second Chance Sale at the former Western Stores building on Saturday and Sunday between 8.30am and 4.00pm. I do hope that you will pop in and say hello. There will be some books from the Wellington Historical Society there too. I will have some odds and sods there too. Remember Wellingtons Treasures is also available from Viv Wellington @Realty in Maughan Street, opposite the Post Office, Food 2 Go in Nanima Crescent, opposite the Public Conveniences and The Book Connection in Macquarie Street, Dubbo.

13.01.2022 As we approach Mothers Day, I remembered many who celebrated such special occasions at Bills Cafe. Some of these events are mentioned in Wellingtons Treasures. This is a photo of the Tarros family and staff taken in 1963. Books are still available if you are looking for a trip down memory lane.Happy Mothers Day to our special mothers.

13.01.2022 I am playing with a story about the Irwin family and the Wellington Town Band during the 1960s. With all the memories I am finding it hard to settle down to write. This was such a wonderful time for Wellington and all of us who can remember. Mavis Irwin (nee Bartley) has provided so many wonderful photographs and Billy, before he passed away also shared so many memories. Many thanks to Helen Maxfield too for adding info and a photo - all so special.

12.01.2022 Enjoying putting together a story about Wellington Primary Schools Fife and Drum Band. Thank you so much Norman Sharf for sharing your wonderful photos. Love this one with the drummers. The person playing the Bass Drum is Alf Thomas!

11.01.2022 A memory came up and I just could not believe that it is twelve months since Wellingtons Treasures was picked up from the printer. Our first outing was to the Wellington Rotary Markets last July. The book has proved very popular and a second printing was done and there are only a very few copies left of that run. Books are still available from Food 2 Go in Nanima Crescent, Realty @wellington in Maughan Street and Dubbo Book Connection in Macquarie Street. Danny Hawke picked ...up a belated birthday gift for his mother (who is a former school classmate and friend of mine). He tells me that she has been waiting for the copy for a (little) while. Also posted off two copies to Queensland - one of those is for a Christmas gift, so Sharee is ahead of us all with her Chrissy shopping. I still love the book and I hope that you do too. The second book is progressing v-e-r-y slowly. One of the exciting side bits is re-uniting two 90 year old friends, Norman Sharf and Ray Sherringham - such good friends with tremendous memories and stories to share. Many thanks to you all for your support. See more

10.01.2022 As we approach Australia Day - it brings back wonderful memories of the late Colin Poyner, who for so many years was an Australia Day Committeeman and MC for the official Australia Day functions which were held in Cameron Park. Colin, with his wonderful humor is remembered in Wellingtons Treasures. Thank you to Les Fisher for the use of the Surgery photo. The book now getting near the end of its second print is available from Food 2 Go in Nanima Crescent or the Book Connection in Dubbo. Should you like a copy posted, let me know cost is $45.00 please add $13.50 for the additional cost.

09.01.2022 Oops, not at Book Connection until later this afternoon when Terry will drop some more off. Food 2 Go are having a little break until 6th January, so if you would like a copy, please give me a shout. Many thanks to everyone for the overwhelming support for Wellingtons Treasures

We had a lovely day yesterday with many people lining the streets to see the wonderful parade and heaps popped in to the Second Chance Sale for a peek. Enjoy the Fair, the Sale and the Drag Races and if you can fit it in the tours to the Wind Farm. Enjoy your great day.

06.01.2022 I was delighted to see a couple of our grandchildren reading Wellingtons Treasures this morning. They are a bit upset as their school hall was burnt down this afternoon. Copies are available from Food 2 Go in Nanima Crescent and The Book Connection in Dubbo, or give me a call 0428 209 475.

02.01.2022 After the past few days of the gentle soaking rain, it was lovely to see little mushrooms coming up in the backyard this morning. Copies of Wellingtons Treasures are available from Viv Wellington at Wellington@Reality and Food 2 Go in Wellington and The Book Connection in Dubbo. Or you can give me a call. We will also be at The former Western Stores building for the Second Chance Sale on Saturday 29th February and Sunday 1st March.

02.01.2022 Happy New Year to everyone. We hope that 2020 will bring everyone happiness, health and some rain.

01.01.2022 The Wellington Clock, which is hanging on the wall of the former Wellington Council building (now Dubbo Regional Council) will celebrate 200 years, since its purchase, this year. It was purchased in 1820 and hung in the bar of the Cinque Ports Hotel. The Duke of Wellington, whilst Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, frequently compared the timekeeping qualities of his own watch with that of the clock and stated on more than one occasion that the clock kept almost as good as did his watch. This clock has a most interesting history and, hopefully will be in Wellingtons Treasures second book.
