23.01.2022 Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended WW1 (191418). Every year people all around Australia observe 1 minutes silence at 11 am on November 11 in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts and in appreciation of their sacrifice. What does your organisation do to support veterans and their families?... One way to support Veterans and their families is to refer them to Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling The Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) changed its name to Open Arms - Veterans and Families Counselling in October. Open Arms continues to provide the same professional, confidential service, with 24/7 support available to all current and ex-serving ADF members and their families.

21.01.2022 5 WAYS TO HELP YOUR CLIENTS ACCESS SPEAK MY LANGUAGE On Monday we heard from Terrie Leoleos about Speak My Language. This innovative program aims to make information about healthy ageing accessible to culturally and linguistically diverse older people and their carers. Heres some ways you can help your clients access the podcasts.... 1Social support groups are a great place to listen. The facilitator can click the podcast link on the Speak My Language Radio website and listen to the show with the group, capture questions and email them to Speak My language. 2Conversation Scripts are available to download in the resource section of the Speak My language Radio website in various languages. 3You can show carers how to link to the podcast in the relevant language via their mobile phone or computer. 4Your organisation, carers and clients can sign up for email updates on the website. 5You can help build the digital literacy of your clients to access the podcast via their mobile phone or computer. Have you considered applying for a grant with Be Connected, a national program to build digital literacy for older people? #WellnessDiversityNorth #DiversityNorth #SpeakMyLaungauge #AgedCare #CALD

18.01.2022 REVISITING A USEFUL RESOURCE # 1 The "Dementia-friendly social support checklist" resource brings together research, guidelines and good practice ideas. The checklist has been developed in four logical stages: Promotion, Starting, Setting and Program. The checklist helps you step through your social support environment and check where your program supports people living with dementia. It also helps you identify areas where you can make changes that will have positive o...utcomes for your clients. Many of the ideas can be achieved at low or no cost and are relatively easy. One of my favourites is using contrasting colours on seats and benches. Also great for table settings for meals. This makes items stand out and reduces confusion for your clients. This resource will help you prioritise and plan. It was developed by Uniting AgeWell and can be downloaded as a PDF by clicking here: www.bit.ly/Dementia_Friendly_Checklist Carolyn Bolton, Wellness & Reablement Consultant, North Metro. What resources do you find helpful? Please share in the comments. #WellnessDiversityNorth #AgedCare #WellnessApproachNorth #WellnessResourcesNorth
