19.01.2022 SMART Goals: Specific As we start 2021, we want to help you set your health goals for the year ahead. While its is easy to set goals, sticking to them is the hard part, this is where we can use SMART goals. The S stands for Specific and it is what allows you to get to the nitty gritty details of your goal. A specific goal should answer questions such as:... What needs to be accomplished? Who is responsible for it? What steps will you take to achieve it? For example, Matts goal is I need to stop eating chocolate. A more SPECIFIC goal for Matt is I want to replace the chocolates in our work snack jar with healthy food. Make sure you keep an eye on him during your session to see if he sneaks any chocolates! Comment your Specific goal of 2021, and keep an eye out next Tuesday, as we work our way through SMART goals.

07.01.2022 National Diabetes Week. Next week from Monday the 13th to Friday the 19th of July, we are raising awareness for National Diabetes week. Before we start the week, it is important to know what diabetes is, and how exercise can help! There are 2 main types of diabetes, Type 1 (T1DM) and Type 2 (T2DM) diabetes. Type 1 occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin (insulin helps process glucose) due to the cells being destroyed by the body’s immune system. Type 2 is the mor...e common form of diabetes, counting for 85-90% of all diabetes diagnoses. In T2DM, the pancreas produces insulin, but the body’s cells do not respond effectively to the insulin and do not take up the blood glucose and turn it into energy. Why is it important to exercise? Exercise plays a vital role in the management of diabetes. Exercise can improve the way muscles respond to insulin which helps regulate the blood glucose levels for some time after the exercise session and improve the body’s response to insulin. This in turn lowers the dose of insulin required. If you are interested in some more facts about diabetes, follow the link below: https://exerciseright.com.au/7-facts-you-should-know-about/ OR, feel free to contact us here at Wellness Through Movement. We are currently running 3 Type 2 Diabetes Group Classes and you can see a few of our group members in action in the attached picture. And remember Movement IS Medicine! 06.01.2022 Movember Update As we head into our final week of Movember, it's time to go balls to the wall and raise awareness for Men's Health by supporting Matt & Hannah in their Movember journey! Every day at least 2 Aussie men are diagnosed with testicular cancer. As a man of any age, there's a chance you could have this condition. Although, to reassure you, when diagnosed within the first 5 years the survival rate can be as high 98%. That means that you should be che...cking your two best mates at least once a year to ensure early detection. To assist in your early detection, there are some signs/symptoms to look out for. These include: Heaviness in the scrotum Constant aches or pains in the lower abdomen or back Bigger and more tender breast tissue When you're performing your yearly testicular check-up, there are some key things to feel for: Using both hands, roll each testicle between your thumb and fingers Feel the entire surface to have complete confidence Look for swelling, discomfort, asymmetries or lumps If you find anything out of the ordinary, contact your GP as soon as you can. It's important that you have the doctor verify your examination. If you found that you didn't quite know about these small facts, it just goes to show how important Movember and raising awareness for Men's health is.

05.01.2022 Easing of Restrictions As restrictions are lifting during COVID-19 we are making changes to our opening hours and are now open Monday to Thursday. This has allowed us to re-commence some group classes (dependent on a client’s health condition) of 2 to 3 people per class. These numbers will be reassessed in the near future upon Government restriction levels and our Governing body’s advice. We are also allowing the opportunity for Self Directed clients to complete their program... in the clinic whilst our EP's are working with a client (ensuring social distancing rules apply). We really look forward to you joining us again so don’t hesitate to give us a call on 3184 0444 to see what times are free for your appointment. We are continuing to maintain strict hygiene policies and abide by the required social distancing rules. As always, we thank you for your support through these difficult times and we will continue to keep you up to date with any further changes as the situation unfolds. The Wellness Through Movement Team

01.01.2022 Men’s Health Week: Working together for Men’s Health From the 15th of June to the 21st of June, we are raising awareness for men’s health. Why should we raise awareness you may ask? Well let us explain: Australian men are more likely to suffer from serious health problems than women, and often do not share their health concerns with friends and family. There are many social and cultural reasons that surround these reasons. They include; ... The Western definition of masculinity includes strength and silence. Less likely to seek professional help for problems Some males feel embarrassed about sharing personal information with others Less inclined to take an active role in maintaining their own health Men may feel that it is a sign of weakness to seek help. Some males tend to act as if they are invulnerable, leading to destructive behaviours So, what can you do? This week is about the men in our lives, whether its your brother, husband, dad, friend or yourself! Take this week to think about yourself! Do a body scan, go see a doctor for the one thing that may be bugging you, talk to someone about your medical condition. But most importantly, be proud! It doesn’t make you any less of a man to have a chat with someone. Or as Matt does, drag his Dad into the clinic to complete his exercise for the week. Remember as always, Movement is Medicine.
