23.01.2022 ***** !!! NBN UPDATE !!! **** Looks like many people in Wellington will be connected to the NBN before I am. Apparently, there are still a few residences in Wellington that are still not ready for connection, mine being one of them. As for a time-frame of when all the work is finished?? Well, It might be as late as September!! -- NBN Co have contractors installing the network, and the contract says they have to finish the entire job within 12 months, They started last September, so they have until September this year finish the remaining work~ Looks like many people in Wellington will be connected to the NBN before I am. 19.01.2022 ***** !!! NBN UPDATE !!! **** Hi All NBN Cos. Fibre To The Node (FTTN) network was finally switched on in Wellington on Friday 6th May. So that morning, with great anticipation, I called Telstra to get connected. At first Telstra Sales told me the area was not connected yet, .. but with some persistence on my part, and prompting the sales agent (Rajiv - actual name) where to find the information (youd think that if I, or anyone else can readily access this information, th...Continue reading

15.01.2022 Hi Guys Would anyone have any idea of how to find out who the NBN cable contractors here in Wellington? The contractors or subcontractors doing the fiber cabling work in this area would be a company within the region. The people they hire are usually on a short term contract (6-12mnths) and mostly local. Round here it would have been guys from between Orange and Dubbo, .. and some could quiet possibly be from Wello. (Ive seen many adds for these jobs around here the last cou...ple of years) I just thought that someone might know of anyone who has been doing the work, because there is a little problem with some of the connections in town, (including mine). NBN Co cannot provide answers as to what the problem is, or when it will be fixed, they say that it is up to the contractor and they have no details. From what Ive read, the roll-out of the NBN is being done on the cheap. Theyve installed outdated technology (FTTN) as it is, but they have no real guidelines or control over the companies theyre hiring to do the work. As a result, work is being left unfinished for months on end, sometimes over a year, all over the country. So. due to the fact that I cannot get any connection, and with no answer as to even a possible date , and considering there are others in the same boat here in Wello, I thought it might be good to see if I could get some assistance through other channels.

12.01.2022 I am going to turn my page into an NBN whinge and complaint forum until I get connected. Because of my present difficulties with NBN.Co , I have been delving and reading up on how this roll-out is being done, who is doing the groundwork, and what strategy of monitoring and organizing the workload is being used. Guess what!! -- its a TOTAL mess!!!! -- The sub/subcontractors doing all the digging and handwork are getting paid bugger all in some cases. Many contracts are based ...on payments per individual job, ie: $30 to install box for fiber lead-in. No real fixed contract amount. Hardly enough to run a small business.on. On top of that, these contractors have had to submit proposals and pay up to $15k in paperwork costs, and then amounts such as $50k to change and upgrading their equipment. http://www.afr.com//low-pay-turns-workers-off-nbn-20130224 Another issue is that there are problems with the checks and controls of the work done. In one case I read about, the premises that had been allocated an FTTP connection, and had had all the fiber and the box installed right up to the side of the building. When the completion date arrived, all the residents in that area were told they were ready to connect, yet this one address had connection issues, and the customer was not getting any answers as to what or why. He was repeatedly told that the contractors are finishing the job, but no time frame could be given. After more than 12mths of getting nowhere, and upon some investigating, the customer discovered that although all the fiber had been installed at his address, there was no fiber laid from the premises to the node, and the contractors had already moved on to other work. - Fortunately he was able organize the contractors to finish that stage of the job himself, If not, who knows how long hed have to wait.

05.01.2022 ***** Online Security & Privacy***** Heres some good info if youre concerned with online privacy. --- Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is one of the best ways to hide your identity and keep online presents and activity private. Online privacy has become somewhat of a concern in recent years, and as a result the use of services like VPNs which hide your IP address and online presence on the WWW, and search engines such as DuckDuckGo that dont track user activity has ...become a lot more common. There are also web browsers such as Firefox that have the option for private browsing, which doesnt keep a record browsing history/activity, but only on the local machine. ~STEPS TO REMAIN PRIVATE ONLINE~ *>Keep your online search activity private by using a search engine such as DuckDuckGo, winch, Unlike Google, Bing or Yahoo, does not track user activity. *>Hide your online presence by connecting to a VPN service, which will divert your connection via one or more private servers before connection to the host site. (There are many excellent free services a available, .. but obviously the paid services are more secure. Most of them for only a few dollars a month.) *> For total anonymity while online, use both previous methods in conjunction with a browser called Tor , which allows you to connect to the the Tor Network ------------- "The Tor network is a group of volunteer-operated servers that allows people to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. Tors users employ this network by connecting through a series of virtual tunnels rather than making a direct connection, thus allowing both organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy." --- https://www.torproject.org/ --- ------------- (details and any discussion about its DeepWeb/DarkWeb access below in the comments section)

01.01.2022 ***NBN Rollout*** --- Under the heading "Commercial in Confidence: Scale the Deployment Program", the report outlines a plethora of faults, including that delays in power approvals and construction are being caused by electricity companies which account for 38,537 premises or 59 per cent of overall slippages against the target. Another 30 per cent of delays are down to material shortages and a further 11 per cent are attributed to completion reviews. "Construction completions... currently sits at 29K against the corporate budget of 94K," the report states. "Gap-to-target has increased from 49,183 to 65,268 at week ending February 12.
