15.01.2022 A thought for your Thursday.... Everybody, this is Cera. Her mum named her after a dinosaur, the Tri-CERA-tops. Like the triceratops, Cera is quite hard headed and likes to get her own way. Unlike the triceratops, which was a herbivore, Cera (being a cat) is an obligate carnivore. ... Obligate carnivores rely on the nutrients found in meat-based diets to not just survive, but to thrive. The three main nutrients being high levels of protein, carbohydrates and Taurine, an essential amino acid. Amino acids are the building blocks for protein and protein is required for the body to grow and repair tissue. Taurine occurs exclusively in meat and fish but can not be synthesized (created) by the cat. This means taurine must be acquired from the diet. A meat based diet. Taurine is critical for healthy eyes, brain, nerve function and immune response. Insufficient levels of Taurine can cause heart and kidney disease. Dont stress though! So long as you are feeding a good quality cat food, and at the correct amount, your fluffy little dinosaur will be receiving sufficient levels of protein, carbohydrates and super importantly, taurine. Fun fact: Taurine can be synthesized (created) by humans and dogs. Cats really are peculiar creatures

05.01.2022 WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: Did you know a baby echidna is called a puggle? After the young hatch, echidna mothers carry them around for up to two months, until they start to develop spines. Then, the mothers keep the offspring in a burrow and return to feed them every three to six days. It can be difficult to determine the sex of an echidna, which is why if an adult echidna is not injured, it is important it is left alone or returned exactly to where they were found.
