17.01.2022 How to help avoid separation anxiety in our pets when returning to work after months of working from home As restrictions change and more of us are returning to work after being in isolation, our pets are confused as to why they are being left alone so suddenly after getting used to you being home every day. This sudden change can cause separation anxiety in our pets which can be a huge behavioural issue. Some pets may destroy household objects while alone, digging and or c...onstant bark/cry all day long! Here are our top tips to help avoid this -Provide your pet with Environmental enrichment -Don’t make a big deal when your leaving home or returning home -Practice leaving a new puppy leaving alone for short periods of time Stay tuned as we discuss each of these points further in the coming days If you require a veterinary consult for further behaviour help please contact us anytime on 1300 WELLPET #wellpetvets #separationanxiety #nepeananimalhospital See more

16.01.2022 * CAUTION PET OWNERS- TICK SEASON* At WellPet we have seen multiple tick toxicity cases recently and although they can be found all-year-round they become increasingly common in the warmer months so if your pets are not already on a tick prevention, now is the time to start! Poor Indie was admitted to our Nepean Animal Hospital last week with tick toxicity and thankfully her owners sought veterinary attention immediately and she received emergency treatment which ultimately ...saved her life. As mentioned, ticks can be found all year round and although they are mostly prominent in coastal and bush areas, there are cases popping up all over suburban areas too, hence the importance of protecting your pets all year round no matter where you live. Paralysis ticks are external parasites that suck the blood of their hosts whilst releasing a deadly toxin that affects the nervous system. There are many symptoms of tick toxicity which may include: - Wobbly back legs or being unsteady on feet - Appetite change or loss - Changes to bark or Meow - Difficulty breathing or swallowing - Excessive salivaton - Coughing or Panting - Vomiting or Dry Retching If you are concerned your pet may be exhibiting any of these symptoms of if you believe you have found a tick on your pet, it is important that you contact the vet immediately. As always our Nepean Animal Hospital is open 24 hours to assist with any such emergency. If you would like more in formation on how to best protect your pet against parasites like ticks and fleas please call 1300WELLPET anytime and speak to one of our friendly staff. #wellpetvets #24hourvet #nepeananimalhospital #mountainsanimalhospital #stclairanimalhospital #tickawareness #tickseason #emergencytreatment #paralysistick

11.01.2022 An important message about stray animals at this time. . . DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID-19 CRISIS, WELLPET VET CLINICS ARE UNABLE TO ADMIT ANY STRAY ANIMALS AT THIS TIME. .... . . Although we help to reunite stray pets and owners by opening our doors to hundreds of stray and lost pets every year, we ask that at this time in particular, if you find a lost pet, please remain reasonable in your expectations of us. The local council has today enforced restrictions which mean that they will no longer be collecting any stray animals due to the Covid-19 crisis. This then means that all WellPet clinics have no way of processing any stray animals in situations where their owners cannot be located. . . . . It's a wonderful and kind act to help out a lost pet and to pick them up, keeping them from harms way. Many pets do not have road sense and find themselves hurt and alone, and for you to pick them up is a truly humble act of kindness. We will always give veterinary attention to any injured stray animal however if you find a pet that is not injured we simply ask that you be prepared to accommodate that lost pet you are able to take it to your nearest shelter. . . . . . Please be kind to our staff. If you bring a stray pet to WellPet, our staff will be more than happy to chip scan and take your details and do what we can to help reunite the pet with their owners while you wait. We will also give you any information you need relating to shelter opening times and where to take the lost pet. We will not however be able to take the pet from you at this time, and although this can be frustrating, we ask that you remain sensible and adult about this situation at all times. Being a 24hour emergency hospital, we have many sick and critical patients that require beds in our ICU and hospital wards. These patients must remain our priority. These patients, as well as pets trusted to us in boarding wards, mean that there is simply no room for healthy stray pets at this time and so they will need your help. . . . . . What to do If you find a pet that's lost: 1. If it is injured take it straight to the nearest open vet. 2. If it's not injured - check for a collar and tag - door knock in the area it was found - bring the pet to a vet for microchip scanning - organise temporary accommodation for the pet. Facebook has some great resources and often people are more than happy to help foster lost pets if you cannot. - take the pet to the nearest shelter when they are open. . . For the Penrith Council district this is Hawkesbury Animal Shelter Their address is 10 Mulgrave Rd, Mulgrave NSW 2756 PH: 4560 4644 www.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au//places-and-facil/animal-shelter #24HOURVET #wellpetvets #covid19 #straypets #reunitingpets #lostpets #hawkesburyanimalshelter #wellpetlostandfound

04.01.2022 Congratulations Ethan for Wellpets employee of the month! for the Team Work Award. Here are some of the lovely comments from our staff regarding Ethan.. He’s always happy to help no matter how much he’s got going on and stays back without a complaint to help everyone else.... Ethan will constantly sacrifice his own lunch break, or leaving on time, to ensure the day for the surgery team is running smoothly and loose ends are tied up by the end of the day- he is constantly asking questions, learning and improving so he can perform at his best. Ethan is so considerate of his fellow team mates, and always does everything he can to help the day run smoothly. Even though he is often tied to surgeries, he never hesitates help with the hospital, ward and reception team as much as he can. Ethan will always drop what he is doing to help another person who needs a hand (regardless of their role). Thank you Ethan for all your team work- it doesn't go unnoticed.
